Absolutely fantastic return from the one and only Edwyn Collins. Keep on doing what you do so well and look forward to hearing the whole album in the coming months. Take good care of yourself Edwyn and thank you for the music 🥰 - Love from Hong Kong
This is the best news... Already makes 2025 worthwhile. That has just put a big smile on my face for the rest of the day. Great song, great video. Thanks Edwyn
I first heard of Edwyn Collins in the early 1980's as frontman with Orange Juice and loved their hit single 'Rip it Up' and debut LP 'You can't hide your love forever'. I thought he/they were brilliant. They were one of the more serious, 'arty' Indie bands of that period who made thought-provoking music rather than just purely 'pop pap'. I left the UK in 1991 and moved to Asia - but still followed Edwyn as best as I could [which wasn't easy!] even though he had begun a solo career by then. By 1995, I was living/working in Hong Kong, and had taken a holiday in the Philippines. I remember wondering around some far-flung town on one of the Philippines many islands and this song 'A Girl Like You' was being played everywhere! As I walked through this bustling market, it was being blasted out from stall after stall - at first, I had no idea that it was Edwyn Collins but loved the pure 'energy' of the song. When I returned to HK I was enthralled to learn that Edwyn was coming to HK and instantly bought tickets to go see him. Although the venue [HK stadium] wasn't really ideal for live music concerts, he was great - and happily, a lot of the audience were clearly big fans too. He reluctantly announced that he was going to do 'A Girl Like You' - and made it obvious that he didn't particularly like the song. I guess he felt it was too 'commercial' but the crowd went wild all the same. It was a fantastic concert and I feel so privileged I got to see him 'live'. It is so sad to see how he is today after the impacts of his illness. But I will always love his music and for the pleasure he has given lots of music lovers. Thank you Edwyn.
The best thing about this track, it's raw but still has an upbeat. I'm a 90s kid, but for some reason I got obsessed wjth Collins. His music I have always still listened to. This? Next level. it could be from anyone, his story, doesn't matter, he has a skill for making the personal universal
Hey Edwyn, some years ago I travelled to Glastonbury on the same coach as Suggs. We were all on a guest list with the Cowboy Junkies. Later I was chatting backstage with a very gentlemanly and oddly familiar Scottish guy, when the CJs called Mr Edwyn Collins to the stage. "Oh, Edwyn's here", I said to the Scotsman ... as he asked me to hold his beer and bounded off onto the stage. Doh!
wonderfull, music inspires ,gives you stregnth ,hope ,love you and your music ,you make the world a much happier place to be,music is life , life is music ,god bless x❤
