    Interesting. Here in Japan, almost all rooms in the house have an air conditioner so this was useful to know. Cheers.

    My current home is filled with mold. It is causing so many issues. We live in a manufactured home from the 70's and we constantly have standing water under the house so the floor keeps rotting out and the walls have mold in them and there is mold in the air vents. We plan on tearing down this house and rebuilding a new one with a concrete foundation. I want to do what ever I can to protect my family from mold in the new home so I do plan on getting the uv lights for the air system. Now I know I'll need to do other things to keep it from forming in the rest of the house. Thanks for the info

    What is a typical cost for a UV light in an HVAC system? I know it would vary by size of system, etc.

    Why would a UV Lamp not be on all the time?
    Does mold magically stop multiplying when the indoir fan shuts off??
    Wouldn't it be benficial to keep the UV Lamp on 24/7 so that mold doesn't have the opportunity to multiply when the thermostat is satisfied?
    ...& some people seem to think that the UV Lamp can kill all virus mold & bacteria in the indoor unit &/or the supply air plenum...
    ...why couldn't it?
    UV radiation type C, for example, is a pretty high frequency....& its moving AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT.
    The viruses, mold & bacteria caught in the air stream are not moving anywhere near the speed of light.
    So its kinda like a slug trying to out run a fighter jet...yeah.
    Now, it IS possible that the wave-length of the UV Radiation could be too big to actually interact with stuff as smal as individual virus & bacteria...that could be the case.
    But this ridiculous believe that being caught in the air stream, let's viruses, mold & bacteria "escape" the clutches of the UV Radiation.....is just dumb.
    & for the record, that bluish glow, that the Lamps give off, is NOT the UV radiation. UV radiation is beyond our visible spectrum.
    I'm going to guess that that bluish glow from the UV Lamp might be ionization either inside the lamp, or in the vicinity of the air just around the lamp.

      Agreed. I placed mine in the cold air return just prior to filtration. Slower air movement, and am focused on cleaning the air vs ducts, A-coil etc. I also believe the cold air return side puts less heat stress on the bulbs during the winter months. I too have read that the bulbs have a shorter life when cycling on and off more often. Just leave them on is what I do.

    UVC lights are actually installed in HVAC system, thru which both cold and hot air pass. It also need to be calculated in right frequency and wattage for that particular area.

    My HVAC system became contaminated when one of the returns was breached allowing contaminated air from a crawl space to enter. The ducts were cleaned which helped significantly but there is still trace amounts of the Oder coming through. It seems like the UV will not get the remainder of it based on this video. Any suggestions on how to sterilize the ducts?

    It doesn’t just keep your ac system from getting moldy. It kills the mold that’s in the air traveling through your ac system. This guy talks as if it only purifies the ac unit itself.

    • @Val-xi4we
      @Val-xi4we 4 года назад +8

      It will only kill mold on the surface of what the light hits, this because of the length of time it is exposed to the UV. It will not kill airborne mold. It takes a lot of UV exposure to kill mold and the split second that air passes by is not enough. Read up on it.

      @@Val-xi4we: Hey Val, are these things worthless, or do they off any kind of benefit in sterilization. I’m thinking it would be a waste of $500 to have one installed in a 3 ton unit for 3000 sq. Ft.

      @@mannyandlorenaalmendariz9637 What Val said it true. The air is moving too fast, so the expose time is too short to kill the mold or virus. If your condensate pan is not pitch correct mold may grow in your AC system.

    @2:16
    Why is there a sight-glass that allows you to see if the UV bulb is on, when seeing UV radiation is harmful?
    The kicker:
    The sight glass is right on the warning label.
    Yes, it shows a person wearing sunglasses, but by the time you've realized that you should be wearing sunglasses, you're already been exposed.
    If these systems are installed in utility closets, typically there aren't locks on the doors of the utility closet where the sight-glass, uv bulb & indoor unit is behind.
    What's stopping a child from accidently exposing their self to harmful UV Light?
    The sight-glass is stupid.
    Why not just have a power indicator light mounted externally, so that you can verify that the UV Lamp is on & working...rather than a sight-glass that exposes you to the harmful UV radiation?
    -Even IF you wear glasses, the rest of your face is exposed!
    So maybe in addition to the stupid sight-glass on the worthless, yellow warning label with the guy wearing sunglasses....maybe they should draw a pic of someone putting sunscreen on their face?!
    "DON'T LOOK AT THE BLUE LIGHT, KIDS!"
    (right next to a sight-glass that let's you look at the blue light)
    -Appearantly, the UV Lamp doesn't kill stupid!!!
