Lived all my life in Tyler. Lots of people who move here claim it's hard to make friends. That is kinda sad.
I hope y'all don't have the same experience. As a Texan i make a point of being super friendly to strangers.
Helps a lot fitting in if you are a churchgoer.

Look, I lived in Tyler for many many years, Arp and Lindale as well. I ended up moving to California to help my mom and dad. To be honest, people are the same everywhere. You have your assholes and you have your good people. I have dear friends that still live in and around Tyler. Personally, I wouldn't ever want to live in Texas again. I don't want to be in California either. I love my guns and freedom, but I'm not a republican. I'm not a Democrat either. I don't support either party. People think that everyone is friendly in Texas, they aren't. I found people to be very narrow minded and judgemental. And Ive found the same thing in California. Ive lived everywhere from upstate New York, down to Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming, Arizona, and Oregon. And people are the same everywhere. The bottom line here is, live where you are capable of living. And ignore the idiots.

I ran across your channel by accident, but you are spot on about Tyler. I lived there for 13 years and now I have been back in the Dallas/ Ft. Worth area for 9 years. I loved the more relaxed atmosphere, the beautiful scenery, and the fishing is great. However, even if you are from another part of Texas it is hard to fit in with the people of Tyler. They also pride themselves on that. There are some great people there, but many others feel threatened by your presence. I believe they are afraid of losing that small-town feel. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my time there. God bless you for the content.

That’s why we left California for Round Rock TX back in 2007. Conservatives leaving a basket case State. We lived there 42 years, retired up to a lake town in NE Oklahoma 10 years ago.
Tyler was a sweet town now it’s a horrible mess, so much traffic.
No real jobs….the rich want to be and stay the big fish in a small pond. Most industries aren’t welcome by city government. We had and have every eating places you could ask for, the rich like people to wait on them, we were railroaders so we had a very good job. But unless your in the medical field , good paying jobs as super hard to find. Weekends are impossible to navigate roadways because ALL the smaller towns around Tyler come in to shop and eat out. South Tyler has exploded over the last 15 years and driving and parking, forget it😳

I could not have written a better comment than what you have written. All you said is correct. I lived there for 13 years. It was a nice place but no real jobs. The "city fathers" want it to stay small and the rich want to remain that upper echelon group. We moved back to the metro area because my daughter would have a better opportunity for career advancement when she graduated college. Thank you for your post.

Yep, you nailed it! I moved down here from Southern PA, and after 2 1/2yrs, I want to move back, like yesterday. What you didn't know, so be glad you moved out, are the water problems here. Did you know Erin Brockovich was here in Tyler back in 2015? She was railroaded, because there is a LOT of big oil money in this town. The thing is, those at the head of the water company, and those big oil people, don't like in Tyler to have to drink or bath in the water. Within the first month of living in Tyler, to check out where I might want to buy, the questions ran thru my mind...why would a little town like Tyler have two huge hospitals? Well, when you understand the cancer rates in this town, you'll get your answer. Within two weeks of arriving, especially driving in the countryside, there is a HUGE gap between those that have, and those that do not. I haven't found it friendly at all, and the things that have happened to me, as well as my horse I brought with me, would make your toes curl. Once I move, wild horses couldn't get me to move back to anywhere in Texas.

First off, thank you for loving my country. I was touched. So many people come here and hate, or disrespect, my country (and, the still choose to stay, I might add).
Tyler has a lot of amenities compared to cities of similar size in the U.S.. My wife and I ended up here almost 5 years ago, under some adverse circumstances, and at the recommendation of some friends. As it turns out, it been a blessing to us both, but Tyler is not to our liking. Though, I can see why many would like it. My wife and I are from Southern California, and I miss the mountains, and the dryer weather. While we would like to move back to California, the economic and political climate push it beyond the realm of consideration. So, we're moving to St. George, Utah, soon.
All I would add to the NOT reasons are: Most of the Mexican food is either TexMex, or street-taco type. There is no California-style Mexican food here. The closest thing we've found is El Mejicano. Also, the graffiti, and "wall murals". Those were painted about a year after we got here.

I currently live in Tyler but I used to live in Dallas and I will tell you the walkability in Dallas is better than in Tyler because they were sidewalks everywhere in Dallas. And they were more parks that offered more walking trails than some of the parts here in Tyler do. Also Dallas is more bicycle-friendly than what Tyler is there are only a few streets here that offer a bicycle lane.

Less than half of the drivers in Tyler, according to my Insurance agent, have no insurance! The weather here is unbearable. It is so hot and humid. That is why you hardly ever see people outside, walking. I was told by a woman that she only goes outside when she is walking from her car to the Dollar General and going in the house. I am also a vegetarian and cannot find much to eat. However, the blueberries here are amazing! There are around 20 churches and 22 donut shops here also.

And as far as traffic goes it sucks. We have Loop 323 which is supposed to get you around the city quickly but it doesn't when it has 500 red lights that you stopped at every 500 feet. I honestly believe that along the loop they should put in bridges and overpasses. I mean I do understand that they built toll 49 but a lot of people don't want to pay a toll to get around the city quickly and then plus it takes you so far out of the damn City then it's unreal. I mean I don't know who designed these roads around here. But the Road and Highway System need some rethinking desperately. Especially since Tyler is eventually going to grow the size of Dallas.

    • @silentsir2446
      @silentsir2446 Год назад +5

Its definitely about the increase in population..anybody familiar with the Tyler of 20 years ago can see the drastic changes that have come with the recent population increase. The city fathers deliberately kept that city's infrastructure devoid of that large urban sprawl and free of large interstates running through the city's core for a reason. Because those things draw people and with population comes the wrong element, which ruins the city. I agree with the ppl in the vid. Generally, transplants ruin quaint, peaceful, orderly small towns, and you can see that happening with Tyler and other small Texas cities. Its not about the people of Tyler "not liking change". Its about the transplants not liking what THEYVE CHANGED whichever hometown THEYRE FLEEING FROM, into. And so they view small, uncluttered, peaceful, low crime, orderly cities like Tyler as their relief valve/relief package that they can use to escape from the changes they already created back wherever they were originally from. It has nothing to do with people in Tyler not liking change, and everything to do with transplants not liking the changes theyve already made, which created the places from which theyre fleeing.

alright then, i have been here for 7 months now so I will way in. The driving doesn't bother me as much as others. I am retired and I drive courteously, and stay out of busier peoples way. That leads to my first complaint 1. not only are there no sidewalks rarely are there shoulders, more often than not peoples front lawns extend right to the asphalt? I like to take my time on the backroads and such and let other drivers pass but it is too difficult too often. What If I have truck trouble..do i just park it on someone's front lawn? 2. The parking lots are aggravating. I find myself often in on a main drag in a 50mph or better zone trying to find a establishment. If you overshoot and need to use the next entrance there is a good chance you won't be able to drive through..in other words each business on the frontage has there own lot and put up curbs to block you from the business next door? i have ran into this on many occasions, that doesn't mean it is always that way, just enough to be annoying. aside from that Tyler Tx is a wonderful place to be and i appreciate the welcome I have received. but...stay away.. stay away..it's awful dont move here..dogs and cats living together...mass hysteria!

Unfortunately we live in a world that is overpopulating, it sucks. I've also watched my smaller town grow a lot since I was a child. Feels like no matter where you go, it's an issue. I might disagree a bit. One of the real challenges the western world is facing is people are having fewer children and they are having them later. Japan for instance is in real trouble. Scandinavia, Europe, much the same. I am old enough to remember in the 70's overpopulation was the buzzword of the day. Dick Cavette had John and Yoko on (clip was on youtube) and he put the overpopulation question to him expecting he would fall in line with the rhetoric but he didn't, to his credit. The human population has expanded many times since then but oddly enough fewer people in the world (UN Figures) face real abject poverty than any time in human history, and that isn't socialism, that is free market capitalism, and technology stepping in to the breach, EVEN WITH the corporatism of Blackrock and the dualopoly in D.C and the bullies in Brussels, wanting you to eat bugs and be happy with nothing, even with, Imagine a world without them.

Some Catholics I know send their kids to Grace Community, but TK Gorman is a super good Catholic School. Local Episcopal school also good. Hope you find your local parish to your liking. My next door neighbor loves St. Mary Magdalene. I'm Baptist, alas so cannot necessarily confirm, but my best Baptist friend attends there too and says people are super friendly.

I would look at Lindale too. It's a nice town. They put on a free rodeo that was amazing. The idea that they would put on this nice of a show with free parking and know one had their hands out, was inspiring. The Cowboy Church I think it was called. The only issue they had was that they broke all their attendance records. Definitely try to get some land if you want to do a little plinking. I lived out in the CA desert and we had places you could go and do some shooting. I live in Tyler now and that doesn't seem to be a thing here? I have only been here about 8 months so I don't have it all figured out yet. anyone please chime in with some solid info

Parse the patterns of road deaths and it paints a clear picture.
They do not care. That's why they DO NOT CARE to learn to drive.

Yep! Texas car insurance is 17-28% higher than the national average....because they have the highest speed limits in the country, and the most drunk driving. They will run you off the road, even if you are doing the speed limit...because, you know, they are in more of a hurry than you are. TX-31 that heads off the east side of Tyler is known as "bloody 31," because of all the drunk driving accidents, since Tyler is dry and Kilgore isn't. They drink in Kilgore, then travel TX-31 back to Tyler. I refuse to drive that road at night.

Tyler is no longer dry, but 31 is a dangerous road.

Nah it’s south bro, it don’t turn into southwest until you get about an hour west of Abilene, even then the technical “west” was any state west of the Rocky Mountains back in the day because it was so hard to get across them so it took a long time for civilization and law to catch up with people, hence the “Wild West” if you could get threw or around the mountains you didn’t have to worry about the law

I will say that after living in the Austin and Dallas areas and now Birmingham, Alabama, those parts of Texas are less southern than AL. There are similarities but the Deep South is different than Texas.

In terms of Indian grocery stores, we have a few Asian markets. Search ‘Kabayan Asian Food Mart’ ‘Import Emporium’ and ‘Asia 1 Market’ they are all in Tyler 😌

Our cops are good but man it seems like the courts are stacked against suspects.

you must seriously live in some sort of information vacuum ? Are you oblivious to the ruin that these revolving door policies have done to our nation's cities. I can't even begin to count how many news stories I have seen where recidivist criminals with dozens of arrests are let loose by prosecutors that won't prosecute on no cash bail and turn right around and hurt someone. Someone's father, somebody's mother, or someone's child. If Tyler is a tough town for people that can't abide by the law I am good with that. Lock em up. Don't care what color they are lock em up. if that means that I can buy some gas without someone sticking a gun in my face or my daughters being able to safely convey my grandkids where they need to go safely. I a super good with that.

As they should be. Try living in Portland where people poop and shoot up in your front yard and you can't do anything about it. Cops don't show up at all. Cars are stolen and found burned up and stripped a few blocks down and there's nothing they'll do about it. So either you're a criminal that has issues taking responsibility for your own actions or a glutton for punishment 😂 why wouldn't you want cops to do their jobs? It makes it safer for everyone

All towns have highs and low points. Tyler isn’t special. It's behind modern times. Yet the humidity is brutal 5 months called miserable! Ugh. BTW, look at your locale, its IN Tornado alley and gets a lot of 5” hail showers too so you're car will likely get beat up more than once there. it's an unpopular small town for a reason there.
