Cut samples BEFORE committing to Full color runs | Large Multi-layerd art

- Color is hard - This 16x16 is a tiny SAMPLE of our 96x48in piece call Alleviation. Because visualizing color is so difficult (at least for me) I have found it essential to create sample cuts to better see how the colors/layers/wood-tones/clear-coat/details all interplay with one another. However, this isn't a scaled down version of Alleviation, it is as if we cut a section out of the design. This way you can make decisions at-scale. Anything you can do to make your final decisions better is worth the effort.
We decided on number 4. What would you have gone with? When she is finished cutting, I'll post the final.
We are also passing off the samples to folks that are interested. It would be great to hold onto everything but our studio isn't big enough.

You are totally right. In fact, my brother-in-law makes all sorts of things for table top gaming. His company is named.... Table Top Things. He makes insane stuff - check it out! Or go to pax in Boston next weekend haha.

You are one of the few channels doing art like this, which has inspired me to invest in a laser. I would love to know more about your creative design process. How do you translate your idea into perfect multilayered symmetry?
Glad to you enjoy it enough to try yourself! Oh boy. What I need to do is create a tutorial. I would start by learning Illustrator or similar vector program. Once you master the basics of that, you can start to work on laser specific vectors.
I kind of like 2 and 6 - they have a musical/party feel to them.

you should think about showing more of the process and also combine the laser cutting of wood for different projects. There is more to get out of this and i think you could make a great youtube channel out of it. Keep going and show the creative process and ideation etc.

We have stained mixed locally and then we mix it further in the studio to make it right. Sorry I don't have a brand recommendation.

Solo uso Illustrator porque era el programa que mejor conocía antes de usar cortadoras láser. Sin embargo, cualquier programa vectorial funcionará bien con las cortadoras láser y muchas de ellas son incluso gratuitas.

Hmmmm... I'm not sure they did. Some are "shorts" and others are under Video. However, I don't have a ton.
Brother laser machines I want review
I use a boss machine. However, I have never used a different machine so I have no idea how it holds up to other companies. We have fixed/replaced an insane number of parts over the last 7 years but again, I don’t know how that compares. Hope this helps.
Truly stunning work. You are a very talented designer. My shop is setup specifically for such work if you would like to produce your designs in other media. I'd love to collaborate with or produce your art in larger sizes or other materials. I have a 6 KW 4 x 2-meter shuttle table capacity fiber laser sheet cutter and a separate 20-foot capacity 6KW fiber laser tube cutter both can handle ferrous and non-ferrous metals including copper, brass, bronze, steel, aluminum, and stainless. I have a laser welder. A second laser welder and cleaner coming soon. I have a 4 x 2-meter bed size Flow Mach 200 5-axis waterjet that can bevel, so I have the ability to do porcelain, stone, glass, rock, quartz, etc. I have a 5 x 10 foot CNC router for nonferrous metals, wood, and plastics. It has a fourth axis and a drill head for speedily adding adjustable drawer holes or hinge pockets. The spindle can be fitted with cutting, scoring, or engraving attachments. The shop doesn't yet have but will have a high-power CO2 laser for acrylic and architectural plastics. All these machines are capable of achieving the level of detail you needforyour designs. They are all accurate to .oo1 inch or better. We will be adding or already have large format inkjet printers with cutting, vinyl cutters, large sandblasting booths, and some limited chemical etching capability. The shop has a few 3D printers both FDM and SLA. We need a few more machines to complete our wood shop but we are getting there. For metal working we have a three manual machines, a 16 x 40-inch capacity lathe, a 9 x 49-inch capacity knee mill, and a 7 x 12-inch capacity metal bandsaw mostly for cutting stock but some shaping is possible. Unfortunately we do not have big horizontal or vertical machining centers as I am more focused on decorative 2.5D capabilities rather than full 3D milling which would allow us to do more functional parts. I do however want to add metal casting, a CNC press brake, tuber rollers, and perhaps even a CNC sheet former. We don't have CNC stone routing and polishing, or a bridge saw yet, perhaps after TISE 2024 we will get the ball rolling on that. Send me a message or reply to this and we can speak more. Haha, my only advice is to cut a small sample of a larger piece to figure out color before cutting full 4x8 sheets. I'm not really sure how to more simply say it 🤷♂.

Thanks. Oh boy.. .we are always on the hunt for better glues. It is one of the most finesse oriented parts of the process. To much glue, ruined. Not enough, ruined! Can be frustrating.
