Changes until I'm almost happy.
The standard should not be "will people notice" but rather "will I be annoyed about this forever". The 90-10 concept is relatable in that the last 10% of a project will take you 90% of the time. I feel this so hard. The last “perceived 10%” of the work takes SOOOOO long. Is this just me? Happy to finally push this “Linear” artwork over the finish line. The final details matter.
Hope you like it.

Gravity is pulling the color to the bottom of the artwork - or at least that is how my brain interprets what we’ve got going on here. Or... maybe we got one end wet and the moisture pulled the color out on that end. Or....?

Why we can't finish Anything.
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.4 месяца назад
If we know art is a volume game, why does the last 2% of a project take 95% of our time? Fear of calling something finished. If something is finished, it implies it is the best we could do. A direct measure of us as a maker - as a creator - a person. It is easier to have a bunch of unfinished projects that are "almost finished". "Look at all my potential! Not my execution." Move onto the next i...
Cut samples BEFORE committing to Full color runs | Large Multi-layerd art

Color is hard - This 16x16 is a tiny SAMPLE of our 96x48in piece call Alleviation. Because visualizing color is so difficult (at least for me) I have found it essential to create sample cuts to better see how the colors/layers/wood-tones/clear-coat/details all interplay with one another. However, this isn't a scaled down version of Alleviation, it is as if we cut a section out of the design. Th...

I need file
Hi sir
I understand making a mendala and other pieces, but how do you separate them into layers?
Start with layers, don't end with layers. Here is a video on that: ruclips.net/user/shortsY0Gvlp3KWyI
@@Philip-Roberts thank you so much!!!
Nice
Wow. Just wow. How many layers is this?
She is 12 layers. Glad you like it.
How can I get file
What software you rusing??
Beautiful
Hi Philip, you are a good artist and your video is beautiful . Keep posting. We are watching your videos. Subscribed your RUclips Channel :::)))
This deserves a noble prize for artistry
Thats a masterpiece 👏
You are kind. Thanks.
looks great. nice sensational pieces. will obviously be the one of your buyer Which paint are you painting over the wood.
We use Stain
Beautiful design! You do awesome work.
Hey, you are kind thanks.
Hello my friend can you give me the fils of thes
I design and sell 100% finished pieces.
@@Philip-Roberts Prince
Please advice Best free software for bigener thank you ,
This video proves perfection is achievable. Thank you.
haha, hardly!
Can you please tell are you using wacom or microsoft surface for drawing, i have iPad 12.9 but illustrator does not have full features as of desktop. Response appreciated. Thanks
Beautiful, as an artist nature has the best color complimentary at your display. Look around at the many flowers with their different colors, the colors in the sunset, the sunrise, riverbanks, . Also, there's a book I love : The Complete Color Harmony Workbook by Kiki Eldridge. That's such an amazing book.
Looks good from my house, but would look better in my house 😆
Haha love this.
I think the word perfect is misused a lot. In this context, you mean 'meets and acceptable level of quality', but that doesn't have the right ring to it for expressing your frustration.
this is amazing!!! You should make a video of your workflow making the art on your drawing tablet! I want to make multilayer artwork like this, but im not the best artist thats for sure, and especially doing something like this, multilayer stuff, I cant even wrap my head around making the art together and that and making it look good, this is truly amazing good job!!
I wish I was better at making videos.
@@Philip-Roberts your not bad at making videos at all!! Your great at it, especially for a start, when I was watching I thought u would have had lots of videos w like a million subs, your not bad at all!! Keep going!!!
8 billion people on this planet, and I believe there is no one else who does a job like you do... I'm speechless
haha I love this comment.
nice work I'm trying to make my first layered sign out of my logo and man splitting a picture into layers that will look good is a lot of work.
Just takes a while. It is easier if you work in the proper layers AS YOU DESIGN rather than waiting until the end. That probably doesn't help you now but try on your next project and see if it goes faster. Good luck!
Can you do that on a paving stone?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
time 0:15 wall have totally ugly "art" i not can say this "art" ugly why waste time build this if any not want this ugly "ART" to own home, waste only lot time stupid, not can say art. need say trash.
Hello friend, I discovered your channel a few days ago, I really liked your work, I'm starting with low power laser cutting, I'm from Brazil and I would really like to learn how to do it
Seus projetos são muito lindos, você faz os desenhos em qual programa? Eu tenho muito interesse em aprender e entender melhor sobre suas obras ...
Just go slow and enjoy the process.
I wish I could do this sort of stuff man
You can! Just go slow and try your best to enjoy the slow process
no way! that’s so cool and i respect the attention to detail. just subscribed:D
It is fun sometimes and sometimes can drive a person mad! Glad you like it though.
Is that "rule of construction" from the United States? There's an ongoing joke in architecture school: In the United States your carpenter's acceptable tolerance is .75" whereas in Germany the acceptable tolerance is 2mm. The joke is the standards of the United States.
Haha. I worked construction through highschool and uni (in usa). Even from crew to crew, the standards are wildly different. We have some seriously talented contractors here and some amazingly terrible ones.
That's beautiful !
You are kind - thanks.
A few years into my laser engraving journey with entry level lasers.Hi Philip how do you get the edges black do you paint before cutting or after with a brush.
The black edges are just from burning through with the laser.
awesome, can u show later your setup?
I'd like to, yes.
the first one was better, imo
haha good to know!
phil you the man...blessed brother love from Cape Town
HEY! Thanks.
I have a laser business and I am struggling so hard with paint on the edges. Hang in there
We pre-painted everything before cutting. That tends to work better
@@Philip-Roberts I have done that and get smoke stains, do you clean with a rag or product afterwards?
@@blakeeldridge2466 We pre-mask the entire sheet prior to cutting then slowly remove the entire masking by hand after cutting.
@@Philip-Roberts nice. I had tried that but the mask left a reside. I think I need to try a different brand. I would love to chat more sometime if you’re interested
Beautiful artwork and execution. I was looking for inspiration for a future project involving layers of wood and this came up. I've got a cnc router which I was considering using but those laser cuts are so crisp.
Yeah CNC machines can do SOOOOO much. Each one has different strengths and I could probably learn CNC machines next... I know nothing about them haha.
What software are you using to do your drawings?
I just use illustrator as that was the program that I knew best prior to using laser cutters. However, any vector program will work well with Laser cutters and a bunch of them are even free.
This video is a perfect reflection of my current mindset
Sorry to hear that - It is tough one.
Can I get this design I have trotec speedy 100
It is more fun to design your own stuff.
Wow. This totally hits home
Sorry to hear that!
Do you sell the plans or digital files for these so people could cut their own out?
Nah, sorry, I sell 100% finished pieces.
These are AMAZINGly intricate!! Beautiful pieces.
Thanks a bunch.
No worksmanship, all done by machine. All you did was put them on top each other🤮
haha you wouldn't believe the hours that go into this. It's insane. I got into this because I THOUGHT it would be easy. Hope you're doing ok out there. -Phil.
@nicholasmanohar7866, just because all he showed was the laying out of the pieces, does not mean there was no 'workmanship' applied. If you were not present when it was made, don't assume what you see in a short is the only process to occur on something.
@@MrsZig2U Aww, you are kind, thank you. I even have two people helping me full time and I could 100% not do it without them. Would be nice though if it was faster haha.
@Philip-Roberts would you please pass the compliments to the crew as well...They and u have an eye for detail...obviously.
Amazing work, Phil. What stains are you guys using, water, or oil-based gel? Keep up the great work!
Solvent based stains that we have mixed up locally. Glad you enjoy it.
Hi Philip. Please let me know, what kind of paints do you use, water base or oil base paints? Thanks
Solvent based stains that we have mixed up locally.
Excellent design. Color catches the eyes too.👍
Hey thanks.
What species of wood/plywood do you like to use
This is sold to me as 3 layer mahogany but I’m not sure I believe them. I think it is some sort of asian species look alike. We have learned to work around the problems with it now and we’re happy with how it finishes up (now that we figured out its personality).
What about you? What am I missing?
I like your work! What about using 3D file and pull slices from it? May work for the simple designs but not your artwork.
@@CaliVapor Glad you like it. What do you mean?
@@Philip-Roberts designing with 3D modeling software then taking a “slice” every 1/8” vs printing it other materials. Say you had a 3D model of a Pokémon, you could pull a slice every so often and have a wooden Pokémon 😌 then use the laser to cut those and laminate. I might have time to try artsy stuff, just got a 33x32 laser and am amazed at what they can accomplish.
Your work is amazing!
Hey thanks!
May i know the brand of the laser cutter machine you're using? Thanks a zillion.
I use a boss machine. However, I have never used a different machine so I have no idea how it holds up to other companies. We have fixed/replaced an insane number of parts over the last 7 years but again, I don’t know how that compares. Hope this helps.
@@Philip-Robertsyes you've been of great help, truly appreciate it. Thank you. I did contact Boss machine. But there ain't a dealer here in Singapore. So i might have to look at some other brands. Since i wouldn't want any spare part or replacement to be an issue. Whats your CO2 wattage you are using?
