jonah and payson are literally the best in these roles. they portray the characters and their relationship really well? payson’s peter isn’t crazy nervous, and i think it works more and he makes him very complex. they both do i love them sksj
3.02 I wish this was in the original recording. Having both of them singing at the same time was so special, and showed truly that their relationship was mutual. Overall, it's just amazing and I gotta stop now before I sit here ranting about this completely underrated musical for the rest of my day.
I disagree with Jason. Jason loves peter, but he's scared. Scared of not being the golden boy. Besides, his parents don't care as much Peter's mom. Being scared of coming out of the closet doesn't mean he doesn't love Peter.
Lewis and platt and an amazing Peter and jason. Their interpretations of the characters are different from say Michael Arden and John hill. Payson downplays Peter’s nervousness which dramatically changes it for me. He seems less like a teenager and more like an adult, but I kinda like that better. In the full show his acting is incredible and he makes Peter such a real complex character. And of course he’s gorgeous so that helps
That lady in the bottom left of the screen at 3:16 was like not looking at them at all and I was like HOW ARE YOU NOT I CAN'T FUCKING TAKE MY EYES OFF THEM
I love Jason and I totally get his fears. It's okay if you aren't ready to come out because you feel uncomfortable or scared of how others will react but a relationship is a two way street. As soon as Peter was done hiding and started longing for more, it was time for Jason to let him go or face his fears not play around with other people's emotions. He needed to check himself before he threw himself into any relationship. He can't expect Peter to be happy with hiding just because he's happy with hiding and that's the tea. Jason was being really selfish. I think that's why I like this show though because it shows the intensity of these teenagers' emotions.
On top of that, Jason didn't get enough proper guidance on how to handle his situation. I'd like to ~partly~ blame the priest for what happened at the end but I know most of it is completely up to Jason.
I think it also shows how internalized homophobia affects people - Jason was afraid of others reactions, sure, but I feel like he was also scared coming out would make everything real. That's also one of Peters problems, he desperately wanted to have confirmation that this WAS real. This show shows the intensity of teenagers emotions, and how important it is to have someone to go to for guidance, especially during that time in your life. The priest could have handled this better, the families probably could have handled this better, Jason and Peter definitely needed to sit down and have a proper (and serious) talk about what they wanted out of this relationship.
@@lilia3944 I couldn’t agree more w these interpretations. On one level, I want to dislike characters like Matt and Ivy and even Jason, but the show does a great job of making them and their emotions feel real/tangible. Although they are mean to one another and cowardly and petty and vindictive, they are also kids doing their best in a screwed up environment. It’s a great cautionary tale about the dangers of religiously motivated homophobia

I kinda disagree cause I think Jason is not that involved with him like Peter is
