I use to have the same style of cabinets. I bought strips of lattice wood from Home Depot, cut it to size, and attached it around the faces with wood glue and pin nailer, then I stained. Added cool hardware...total transformation. Looks great! Good job...good daughter! :)
I so wanted to do that! We just didn’t have time or funds to do all the trimming.... but if we ever buy a house with similar cabinets I’m so doing that! 😁
I recently did the same thing with my 1975 slab doors and drawers. The shaker look is so much better now. I would have loved to stain the wood but some knucklehead cut some of the doors on a horizontal grain. No one with sense does that!
Congrats for getting all that done in a week. It took me two and a half months to do my kitchen cabinets after work and on my days off. Their kitchen looks great!
Very super nice of you to do that for your parents. Turned out nice. Can't wait to see that tile back splash, my favorite. Doing some Research and Pinterest Pinning on those beautiful tiles.
Wow, I live in SC and it's very humid. No AC, what? Omg. Im crying for u. The cabinets looked very nice. That was a major job. We bought a fixer upper and have been diying this place for 16 years.... Now to add on before we r too old to enjoy it!
Great job! Always great when families work together... I grew up in AZ, and we had a swamp cooler too. I actually liked it, kept my skin from drying out in the AZ summer. But you’re right, it does nothing in the humidity. Yuck! But great job doing this for your parents. :)
Thank you for your great video. I live in So.Ca.and I agree with you on the humidity....horrible .....we are just not use to it.I love your personality and diy video. Thanks .I'm just doing to paint mine when it's cools down. lol !!!
Congrats! I laughed and also felt so sorry for you about the humidity part. I just moved from the west coast to N. Carolina, in AUGUST!! So I could really relate as I felt like crying a lot from that humidity thing. But, now those cabinets are ready for 30 more yrs now, right?? 🤞🙂
I love love love the authenticity of your videos!! 💟 The cabinets turned out nice...now you need to add faces to them with trim or baseboard! Lol jk the free card has expired.
They came out awesome! So nice of you to do that for your parents 💜. I had no idea Val-spar made a hell stain. I am going to re stain my stairs and thought I was going to have to order General Finishes online. I’m too impatient to wait lol. Thanks for sharing!
Vanessa Haugen thank you for the info, I had no idea any other co made gel stain except general finishes. Do you know if they are as good as General Finishes?
I envy you that you got to go back home to a less hot/humid area. I live in California and it's a HOT summer!! Thanks for sharing. I love the result! I thinking of using that gel stain soon. Have you used it on any other projects? I don't remember seeing it before on your videos. I want to refurbish an old rocking chair so I'm curious if it would work for that because I loved the color(s) in the cabinets in the end. Lots of pretty shades coming through.
Hello, This is my first time to see your videos and I actually saw the one where you did the Chalkboard on the mirror. Do you have one that explains how to transfer the picture (words) onto the chalkboard. I cant wait to see the rest of your videos including this one! Thank you! off to church!
I have a similar project I want to do, but the finished cabinets here look blotchy and uneven to me. I wonder if it needed sanded less? BC most projects I've seen with gel stain were sanded very lightly.
My kitchen is a 1974 nightmare .I need your video today .Thank you so much ....I'm excited to see it done .My cupboards are painted an ugly color .They aren't in bad shape but just that kind of fake stuff you mentioned , no water damage .Our floor peeled up after our bathroom flooded the house . I want to put that tile that looks like wood floors because it's less expensive and durable ( easy to install ). Thank you for your great encouraging video . It looks great .Your parents must be so happy.
You can do it! Just take it a piece at a time and take your time! The wood look tile is awesome! I’d love to install those in our house whenever we buy one 😊
I can't recommend "wood" tile enough! I have them in the majority of my apartment - entrance hallway, bathroom, kitchen, dining and living room. I wish I could attach pictures in yt comments to show you. When we renovated, i wanted a seamless transition between the kitchen and the living room area, it is basically just one big room and no kitchen bar or anything to divide the space. I hated the way every transition from tile to wood floor looked, and I knew we were gonna have a messy drooling dog, so I went for the wood look tile everywhere. I don't worry about water damage, restaining every couple of years and other problems wood flors have. In the winter when I have mud and water on my shoes, I don't have to have a mat by my door, I just wipe the floor with a rag. Cleaning is a breeze. I drop food on the floor all the time, my bf and guests walk around with shoes on, the aforementioned dog drools everywhere, and it all just wipes off.
Now that sounds like heaven! We have laminate through our rental right now and I constantly worry about water damage from the dogs tracking their water bowl contents everywhere ;)
They aren’t really into the painted cabinets look 😊 Trust me I would have painted if they liked that look! But it’s their house so I wanted to do what they would actually like 😜
You have more patience than me, I would of just bout a ton of the stain wipes and used those, no taking cabinet doors or drawers off, no sanding, just wipe it on and go
Man, I bet your mom cried at how good that looked. You really did a kindness for her. No ac remodeling for free...that’s love.
Major kudos to you and your hubby helping your parents do that. I know my kids wouldn't come visit and help me. And you did an amazing job.
Wow, that is a huge kitchen. I'm suffering from storage envy - but bless all your hearts for taking on this project for your parents.
It looks amazing! Truthfully, I have never seen cabinets in such a rough shape but you guys worked miracles!
I use to have the same style of cabinets. I bought strips of lattice wood from Home Depot, cut it to size, and attached it around the faces with wood glue and pin nailer, then I stained. Added cool hardware...total transformation. Looks great! Good job...good daughter! :)

The cabinets look fabulous! You all did a great job and saved your parents a ton of money by not having to replace the cabinets.
Great job to all of you. I'm sure Mom and Dad are so appreciative.
Beautiful work! You do such amazing things. Sooo happy i found your channel 😊
Lovely outcome of the kitchen!
Great family. Great job. And as usual, fun to watch. Can't wait to see the finished projects video

I love swamp coolers too! Nothing better on those hot desert days 😁

I like to have lost it when you were trying to screw in the screw 😂😂😂

Sharon Gasparaitis min wax makes one too, you can find it at your local home depot, lowes and menards if you have one
Vanessa Haugen thank you for the info, I had no idea any other co made gel stain except general finishes. Do you know if they are as good as General Finishes?
I've used the minwax one, it's nice. We did a wood grain texture on a metal door with it.
I envy you that you got to go back home to a less hot/humid area. I live in California and it's a HOT summer!!

I want to know....Where’d you get that adorable top you’re wearing? My God I love it
I have a similar project I want to do, but the finished cabinets here look blotchy and uneven to me. I wonder if it needed sanded less? BC most projects I've seen with gel stain were sanded very lightly.
Where are the after pictures? I am amazed at seeing the few doors you stained, WOW
I’ll be posting an update video whenever they get their floors and walls all done and can send me pictures! 🙃
What a wonderful daughter you are
Nice job!!

The DIY Cottage. Thank you for the video. May I tell you that you have the prettiest eyes . Your parents are blessed to have you as a daughter.

Well done you beautiful daughters...x
baljeet ahluwalia
Cabinets look really nice but I would add brushed metal hardware
Why did you go with staining the cabinets again rather than painting them? Just curious no hate💗
They aren’t really into the painted cabinets look 😊 Trust me I would have painted if they liked that look! But it’s their house so I wanted to do what they would actually like 😜
Can you please show us how you made your Diy cottage at begging of the video, please or where and how did you learn
Where in calif do they live. You are such a hard worker. ♥️♥️♥️
Looks like you restored them to their original color, interesting.
You have more patience than me, I would of just bout a ton of the stain wipes and used those, no taking cabinet doors or drawers off, no sanding, just wipe it on and go
Wait so i watched this whole thing & dont get to see the result? 😞
Love your work but the music choice is horrible. I had to mute.
