That's the only way to enjoy this show. If you tried to take the show too seriously, you're going to run into problems, like the entirety of episode 10 being just extended fanservice. I understood the point of that episode, showing the daily lives of members of Shadow Garden (and Irus + Alexia) but there was just so much unabashed fanservice thrown in that if I took the show seriously, it'd hurt my enjoyment.
That's the point of the show . it's like watching comedy.comedy is stupid most of the times but people like it.same applies to this anime for many people not for all but for many
How does Cid go around acting like he did in that bath and not expect people to fall for him. Man is dripping with more confidence than any background character would ever have.
Cid is the perfect mix of an aro-ace sociopath's sheer self-confidence and a chuunibyou's inability to understand the social cues around them. It's not so much that he knows he's impressive, rather he just doesn't realise that people are looking at him and/or being amazed. He's so convinced that he's playing his background character role to perfection that he fully believes everyone forgets anything out of the ordinary he does the minute he leaves. *But they don't* 😂
@@DarkFrozenDepths the only one rivaling him is Kouenji from Classroom of the Elite, they even have a similar physique and kouenji is equally, if not more, well-endowed
Thinking about it, if he did go out there as Cid, the same spirit would have likely been automatically summoned which would have outed him anyway. So going in as Shadow to throw everyone off worked on an additional level.
Exactly, as the Sanctuary is said to choose the appropriate opponent for each challenger. So far in this batch, only a handful managed to summon a spirit but only Annerose and Shadow managed to defeat their opponents.
Light novel describes the bath scene funnily as fuck lol “With that suggestive line, I give my wet towel a strong snap, sending it up between my legs to clap loudly against my butt. Old geezers do it all the time when they're getting out of the bath, and I can't get enough of it. There's no rhyme or reason to it, but the hot springs experience just doesn't feel complete unless I do it too. After a second and third time, I head to the dressing room. As I finish changing, I can hear the sound of snapping coming from the hot spring.”
The thing is Cid only had two options there. Either he runs away from the tournament or he goes as Shadow. If he had walked onto that arena as himself, Aurora would still have been summoned and Cid would be outed as strong enough to prompt her appearance which would destroy his reputation as a background character way more than being suspicious for not appearing. Also, Shadow appearing instead of Cid doesn't necessarily mean anything for Cid since there's no real reason for anyone to think the switch having anything to do with Cid unless they already suspect him of shenanigans.
Also, even if he didn't activated the gate. The intrusion of a unrelated party would put in question the security of the festival, and probably have the whole tournament canceled, so Cid wouldn't need to appear himself.
Again we get to see some good character traits from Cid. He doesn't care about fights as much as he cares about fighting virtuous opponents. He has his own twisted moral code but it works. I enjoy his meeting with Aurora alot
I don't think virtuous is the right word, as Cid wants a strong opponent and in the case of the witch, she's being restrained by the constraints of being a ghost, which is why Cid remarks that he wanted to fight her at her full strength. He doesn't want virtuous opponents, he wants strong opponents who will allow him to display more of his npc powah and look more badass as Shadow.
He wants opponents who focus on the fight instead of underestimating their rival and constantly shouting how strong they are. Beyond that, he respects people who get powerful through hard work instead of seeking instant power-ups
Ðat is false. He always looks for a good fight and a good conversation. What he usually gets is people who ignore his conversations and want to instantly end ðe fight þrough shear power alone while Cid is trying to have a civil conversation of fighters where opponents converse until one of ðem gets overpowered by argumentations of ðe oðer. And because ðey refuse to have a conversation wið him/ignore it, he decides ðat ðey're not worþ his effort so he overpowers ðem.

"I know what move I am trying tonight" omg what basically everyone did when they saw this ep lol. Also, there was a slap after in the background from Alexia. Aurora is best girl. And I love that Sheera understands she is a 'puppet' .

11:37 Every time they make fun of the Superman glasses thing, my brain immediately remembers that time from Cobra Kai they didn't recognise Eli because of a Mohawk🤣 That is proof that subtle changes can work as disguises.
Guys, I think someone mentioned before that the cloak in manga actually cover his face and sort of like magic make the face unknown (think it like Emilia's robe). Just they shown the face in anime to let viewer see Cid's face reaction.
He's actually described as using a "magicians mask" in the novel. People probably think they don't use because most of the art are "character portraits" (also because the novel stops describing his whole attire after a couple of times).
01:59 It’s not to bathe, it’s to clean yourself of any possible surface dust, dirt and grime so that it doesn’t dirty the hot spring water. That is also why Japanese houses have an isolated bath, where you have a showerhead outside the bathtub to rinse yourself with water before stepping in to take a bath.
2:00 I believe dumping the water over yourself before bathing in Japan is just to get the initial layer of dirt rinsed off. He did splash himself quickly, though, he maybe he soaped up off camera.

No one in the audience knew who Cid was, so he sent off that distraction flare in the sky to draw their attention so he could slip out, come in as shadow, and get away. It literally didn't blow his cover at all since everyone was much more focused on why Shadow suddenly appeared. That means that Cid was 100% correct in the fact that everyone would have known that he was way stronger than what he seemed. Basically the play was to just cause a distraction, then get out of there. And the distraction was to make everyone forget that Cid was even supposed to be down there.
