    I ride a 2008 FZ1 bought new in 2009. Still running like a top 115,000 k,s . Only thing to ever have mess up was coils. I have replaced 2 coils in 10 years. Never been back to the dealer. still original clutch I,m 66 love the power

      Brilliant! 2 coils in 10 years is absolutely brilliant mate! I think my coils must still be original.

      @@AndyManCamI changed my spark plugs the other day. I went for a ride and I burned out another coil. Whats strange about this is. The last time I changed spark plugs i had same thing happen. So in 10 years 3 coils.

    Glad the FZ1N is making you smile, it certainly is one fine machine, definitely saw that proven in your trip to the Alps. Doing the multitude of mods yourself is so fulfilling (a knuckle bashing labor of love :-), Exhaust sounds so exhilarating, Cheers!

    Thank you Andy. This review helped me decide to get my 2009 FZ1 that I have had for 4 mths now. I just love it. So good to be back on a bike again after 15 years away. I am used to the fueling and ride accordingly. You just adapt to what ever you are given and not a big issue. Very comfortable for 4 hours riding. Sore arse after 7 hours but I get that in a car too so no fault of the bike. Plenty of grunt without being jerky. Good handling and well planted even in windy conditions. Not a beginner bike IMO but if you are used to a 200kg plus bike, yes get one for sure.

    Good honest review Andy. I have the 2008 S model and the fueling is perfect. My wife and I agree with the seats, but we fixed that with a pair of AirHawks. We stiffened up the the rear shock but it always wallowed badly under hard cornering with two-up, so fitted an Ohlins adjustable shock - now it's perfect. We just love our bike. You forgot to mention that you have 5 valves per cylinder - that's always worth minor bragging rights.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  5 лет назад

      Thanks Colin. I can imagine a bit of wallowing with 2 up. I have mine pretty much as stiff as it'll go and just having luggage on means I have to ramp it up to max or it wallows. I forgot about the 20 valve setup! More is always better, right?!

    Great video, very informative. I currently own a 2013 FZ8. that has a few aftermarket add-ons, including a Coffman exhaust, Puig windscreen and a RAM X Grip phone mount. Im enjoying it very much, after being out of motorcycling for over 10 years. It has been , in my opinion the perfect bike to start riding with again. Ive been riding my FZ8 for about 6 mos. now. I was recently presented w/the opportunity to pick up a very clean 2007 FZ1 N, so Ive been doing a bit of research on it. Thats how I came upon ur video. Im not sure what Im going to do yet, as far as swapping my FZ8 for the FZ1, but I just wanted to leave a quick comment. Cool video, and as I said I thought u presented alot of great information. But what really struck me almost more than the bike related informatiion, was how impressed I was at ur being able to transition so flawlessly between English and the occasional German. Im assuming you are German, yet u speak better English than most of the people I deal with in Los Angeles. Great video. Thank you for the excellent information and keep up the good work.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  3 года назад

      Many thanks Dan! I guess the only real acid test is to ride an FZ1 and see if the power actually feels increased to you. So much of the two bikes is essentially the same, so the benefits would have to be convincing! I’m actually British, but have had to learn to speak German since I’ve lived here.

    I own a 2015 Fz1and absolutely love it. I found it still in its crate in 2016 after it was discontinued and got a hell of a deal. I put 38000 miles on it since the purchase. Shortly after purchasing it, I removed stock lights with low drag LEDs, removed the whale tail which needed a new taillight with turn signals and purchased a Custom LED Blaster taillight assembly with turn signals ($150), replaced the stock exhaust with a 2 Brothers slip on ($530), k&n air filter ($50) and added a Power Commander 5 ($420) to correct the fuel delivery. It roughly gained an additional 20 hp, 20 ft lbs torque(no dyno), 12500 rpm redline (extra 500 rpm) and it tops out at 170 mph (24 mph gain). Worth the upgrades. If you have any mechanical skills, its easy for anyone to do. It's a beast!

    Nice recording Andy.
    Had my 2014 FZ1NA (ABS) model from new and can honestly say its underrated. I have had many bikes. This will keep up with modern exotica on the A and B roads. I just use it for blasts over 100-150 miles.
    I put a Yamaha fly screen on it. Arrow end can and rear seat matching cover. Tailtidy next. Then thats it.
    Can’t say I have experienced the delay at 4k from shit off.

      Cheers Paul. Totally agree mate. As shown by the chappy on the end of my last tour on his S1000RR that thought he ought to be in front of me, but then couldn't get away! It's MORE than enough machine to keep pace with the newest and trendiest. Good that you've haven't felt the snatch (ahem). It does seem that the later bikes definitely exhibited the problem to a far lesser degree than the first iteration that I have. Happy FZ'ing mate!

    I watched a lot of your videos before I decided to replace my first bike 2001 FZS1000 , a reliable companion for ten years. Your videos really cemented my decision to get into FZ1’s. So I ended up buying 2008 FZ1-S three months ago. So far I have got great 7000km with it. The only complaints I have are worse fuel economy and a bit too firm seat. The bike was in stock form but I have a list of mods that I want to do and they are not too far from what you have done. So far I have been able to tick off only a few of them but they will be done eventually.

    Been watching a few of your videos, Andy. Good to hear a voice from the motherland (even in Germany)...Used to have an 09 FZ1S, absolutely loved that bike, solid it only due to a change in domestic situation which led to me getting an 05 Hornet 919 (cb900f), great urban brawler but massive change from the fazer. As for the FZ1...I changed the front sprocket for a 16t, speedo healer, satan's adaptor and R1 shock (lovely change in turn in), some other small things but the staggering change was the ECU flash by Ivan - completely transformed the bike. Hugely recommended. Now I am pondering an 2011 speed triple, then came across a 14' FZ1N for a similar price here in Melbourne, and got back onto reviews and here I am...You really should check out Ivan's flash(all fuelling issues are vanished). It was a different beast entirely, so much power unleashed all over the place (not that it needed it). Main hesitation with going back to a FZ1 is that I lost my licence o the last one...yet given my other option at the moment is a Speed Triple (11000km on the clock), clearly that is not a pivotal factor in my 40 year old eagerness to return to something more of a missile than urban brawler...keep up the good work, mate! I raise my glass to your sterling effort from the garden here in Melbourne.

    I started following you because in April 2018 i purchased my own 2008 FZ1S. It's a seriously underappreciated bike. Mine had just 19k km on the odometer, in mint condition and for less than the cost of a below average condition 600 supersport. It's by far the most confidence inspiring bike i've ever owned. I ended up installing the Healtech GI pro and quickshifter after watching your videos. Chucked a big Givi top box on the back and now it's the perfect commuter. Same gripes, even the improved 2008 model fueling is still very snatchy and damn scary applying power while cornering in the rain. You do learn to ride around it though. PS: Another +1 for the Road5s, i'm on my 3rd set. Great rubber, even if it doesn't last very long.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  5 лет назад

      Cheers mate and welcome to the team! The bike only gets better with every mdoification. Maybe an ECU flash or perhaps first of all a Boosterplug will soften up your snatchiness. But you're right, you learn to ride around it. Amazing the flexibility of this machine though. I find that the Road 5's are lasting for ages! But maybe I ride a bit gentler than you do! :D

    Another excellent video both in style and content. Always fun to watch. I have a lingering thought however. The FZ1 is a 150hp / 89nm kind of bike. At 62, I got my first bike. A new, straight out of the dealer two year old 2017 Honda NC750X that I bought for a good price, last october (2018) and got delivered mid April (2019). The engine specs for that bike are 54hp / 68nm. Red line is very low at 6250 rpm. Max torque is at 4750. Problem is, I thought I had a fast bike. At the time, I remember seeing a video on YT where another young man brought the NC750X to 185kph is a matter of a few seconds. I still think the NC750X is plenty fast … for me! My only conclusion is that "Andy Man Cam" is a young man with a very recent Brain Control Unit (BCU) and I guess mine will soon need to be re-flashed. 😂😇😎

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  4 года назад

      Haha! He's not THAT young any more! (29 with 10 years experience) I think far more important than the power is how it works for you. Sure my numbers are all much bigger, but the fact that your peak torque is at less than 5000 whereas mine only really starts to generate ANY power at those revs will mean utterly different characteristics. Yours likely pulls like an absolute train from the go. With mine you'd have to always keep the revs up or just be patient until the power comes in! That said, the higher redline is always a smile-maker. I can go from 0 - 140 Km/h in first gear! You'll just have to have a little go on something like it, but be prepared to never look at your old bike in the same way ever again. Oh and reason, logic and 'sensible' are just 3 of the things that get switched off with the BCU reflash ;)

I own a 2007 FZ1N in Power Blue color. I bought it in 2014. I like the bike very very much!!!! I call it: the blue rocket. You need a rope to tie yourself down to the bike haha. I changed a lot to the bike to customize. It's getting more beautifull every time. It allready had an EJK controler, K&N airfilter and an awsome MIVV exhaust. What a great sound that makes!!!!!! At the Dyno test run the bike had 150 HP at the rear wheel. That's enough for me, wow. I'm planning to instal the two tone horns just like you did. They sound great. I will use your video again for it. You have great skills Andy. Keep up yhe good work. All of your video's are fun to watch!! Sorry for the mistakes in writing......

    I found your channel last year because I bought a FZ1N at the same time. And just like you, one year later I´m in love with it (and your channel). I did some simalar mods, same screen, it came with a sc project exhaust, got a nicer tailtide, powercommander 3 and yamaha led plus drl/led blinkers with dimming. I'm in the proces of quieting it down a little, here in the Netherlands and in the Eifel just across the border they're checking soundlevels more and more. (and the fines are not funny at all)
    What you can do for some more height is get your seat reapolsterd with some extra padding. A mate of mine (195ish) did this with his GSX-R. and it cost him around 100euro's at a shop. The seat is about 2cm higher now.
    Was thinking of doing the bars aswell, althought seeing you do it, made me move it to a wintertime upgrade (and replace my heavy clutchcable at the same time...)
    Do doubt if I will bring my ECU to Nippon bikes this summer holiday or in the winter aswell. Will be opening the secondary flyies soon, already have the map for the PC3 for it. That should be good to wake it up a bit.
    Love the bike, love your channel and keep up the great work!

      Thanks Alexander. Glad to hear you’re enjoying your FZ1 as much as me mate! Yeah those SC project cans are throaty beasts! Also, if anyone is interested, I have 2008 fz1 and 2009 bandit 1250. Bandit pulls from 0 rpm which can be startling tbh. Imo there is no need to go from 0 to 15 mph in 1 second. The fz1 on the other hand is like a 600 up til 25mph or so and then the power kicks in like a jet afterburner and you go sonic way way past bandit. This for me is a much more usable use of power, especially in London traffic as it means when you want crazy power and you get it as oppose to accelerating into the back of a Somalian taxi driver for whom the world is his drop off point.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  3 года назад

      I totally agree John. The torque curve of the fz1 does mean that you can have a smooth experience, but if you want you’ve also got a rocket between your legs! Smooth low end torque is also pretty addictive though! 😉

    - Yoshimura exhaust
    - R&G plate holder
    - Red stripes rim wheels
    - Hugger front and back wheel
    - New levers (with 6 options of comfort)
    - Gear indicator digital counter
    - Heated grips same as yours
    - Better screen for my height (6 foot)
    - Crash bungs on wheels and engine
    - Extra bodywork / panels on both sides, really good for protecting my legs in winter and I prefer the look. Plus a Givi top box frame (not fitted as I don’t need it)
    - Comfort seats, rider and pillion
    - Braided hoses
    - K&N filter
    - Alarm
    - Light bulbs extra powerful, great at night
    - Ivan chip I think (done before I bought it, which explains why I have no issues whatsoever with acceleration input)
    - Kaoko FZ1 throttle control bar end, really good for my 55mile each way long commute
    - Integrated GPS from handlebar to battery
    - Battery optimiser plug and brand new battery, which has helped my morning routine of not worrying about the battery

    Well done vid & nicely appointed bike. I’d shorten that monster canister, & add Renthal bars to be proper. My bike needed a new seat, an OEM unit was $465. But I opted for custom reupholstery in suede over Naugahyde. I had an extra inch of gel foam added to my seating area only. Here’s the benefit; besides longer distant comfort, it doesn’t get hot from the FL sun which is brutal, & has held up against fading so far.I used to need to use cool wet rags to cool it enough to sit on, now a thing of the past. Only downside is it’s not waterproof, so I carry a heavy mil. garbage bag (cut to size) & a giant rubber band under the seat, should to need arise.

      Haha! Funnily enough, I've just fitted a longer can, but in Carbon fibre so it looks shorter! ;D I've just bought a used seat that was custom reupholstered for the original owner. Way higher and softer, so we'll see how that goes. for 60€ it was worth a punt.

    Love you vlogs Andy..so informative and entertaining..
    I've a 2010 FZ1..have it 3 + years..mpg is shocking.. 200 odd kilometers per tank is tops..and I ride very easy..would love a solution...alas....

      Thanks very much mate! That is shocking mileage! Are you only using the first 3 gears?! I always got between 275 and 300km to a tank on mine! Has it had an ECU flash that you don‘t know about perhaps? Air box blocked? Spark plugs fouled? Rear wheel bearing worn? Tyre pressures too low? I can‘t think of anything else!

    Nice review Andy. Very professional 👍
    I had a 2007 FZ1 in yellow/black. An all round very good bike. I agree under rated.
    My issues were the poor fuelling, poor low down torque and very skittish front end especially in the wet.
    That apart I had a lot of fun on her and enjoyed my ownership. Part ex’d her for a Suzuki B king. Now that’s a naked beast! Best bike I’ve ever had by far! (and I’ve had a few!)
    Ride safe mate.😉

      Cheers mate! Yeah those are pretty much the issues I have. Slowly getting around them. I have to say that with the Michelin Road 5's on, the front of my FZ1 has never felt more solid.

      i am between these two bikes at the moment. since you are the only person i found to have owned a Bking and an Fz1, would you say the maintenance costs are about the same? also how is the Bking after 2 hours of riding? your opinion would be greatly appreciated and also any tips you might have. Cheers

      @@liandel I hope you purchased the B king in the end. Sold mine last year but must admit it was by far best bike I ever owned, and what an engine! Very reliable and not expensive to maintain, both chain and tyres lasted well. Very well made and becoming rare . It was chalk and cheese with the FZ1N.

      @@Adz456 sadly no… i got the FZ1 and kind of regret it. Dont get me wrong its a great bike, super fun and comfortable. But after owning a suzuki i cant feel ok with other engines. Maybe Honda, but thats just me of course

      Each to their own I guess. I just had a CB1000R for 2 years and found the FZ1 engine far smoother. Not as torquey, but less tiring on long motorway stretches. But now I’ve got a KTM 1090 ADV and I don’t know how I ever lived without that engine!

    Hi Andy, just discovered your channel. I have a 2007 FZ1 that I've actually owned for about 4 years now, but I've finally decided that I will in fact be keeping it and making some changes to it, rather than selling it and buying something else (at large part of that being that I can't really afford it).
    My rotor already shit the bed and I've replaced it along with the stator (was damaged by the magnets) as well as I just did the LARS airbox mod today. I have a full Hindle exhaust system and a PC III. The few days, after deciding to keep my FZ1, I've started taking it apart to do the first valve service. Many are out of spec, so I'll be pulling the cams and shimming them. Not sure if you're heard about the issues that some 06-08 models had with failing intake valves as well?
    I fully agree with your review of the stock seat. My bike has 42,000kms on it now (30,000 by me) and the seat feels fairly worn and I start to slope into the tank. It wasn't always like that, so I'm considering an aftermarket seat as well. ECU re-flash will be on the list too, but I'm going to wait until the end of this riding season before mailing it away to have that done. I can also attest to the fuelling issues present in the stock ECU configuration.
    Cheers.

      Hey Skylar. Welcome aboard! It is just too much bike to give up, unless the deal on the replacement is amazing!! Glad you're loving yours. Sounds like we're in similar positions and I'll be keeping mine for a while too probably.

    Got my 06 FZ1N on Sunday, done a few miles & then dropped it on Saturday, shot my confidence, still trying to figure out what happened, I was going up a path low speed, at an odd angle, next minute I was looking up & bike was on its side & id torn my hamstring & couldn’t walk. I’ll look at it this weekend & begin the repairs. Thank god for crash bungs.

    I bought a FZ1 Fazer from 2009 with 21.000 km for 5.500€ with one year of warranty and made it back stock. Removed the to loud Akrapovič exhaust and short rear fender and bought second hand a standard exhaust, rear fender and original manual book for 125 euro.
    I only put on Bike Design crash blocs and adjustable brake and clutch handles. Also a TomTom GPS mount system.
    This will be my 13th Yamaha after 46 years of riding from when I sixteen . Currently I have six FZR 1000 Exup ( 1x 1989, 1x1990, 2x1991, 1x1992, 1x1994 ) and this FZ1 Fazer.

    Andy, I've enjoyed your tutorials, I've got a 2006 FZ1. I've saved a lot of money using your advice and fitted the scotoiler and heated grips. I'm not sure how much more you can do to the FZ 1, but I'll keep watching. Keep up the good work. The healtech quickshifter is on the Christmas list as is the dyno tune.
