  • Hey there, I'm Lexie, self confessed shopaholic, property expert and now DIY and upcycling enthusiast! I completed this project throughout lockdown when I decided I'd like a home bar, I spend half my life in bars anyway so thought I may as well have one at home as it looks like we'll be doing more home entertaining instead of going out out! So I found an upright piano for FREE on Facebook market place, luckily Dad had a trailer so we could easily collect it. We took it apart so we could remove the iron frame that the strings were attached to as this is what makes it so heavy and difficult to move and as I will be transporting it back to London from Devon this will make it so much easier! Then we put it back together making some changed to give it a bit of an update and more of a cocktail bar look, so we turned the lif round to face the back so it left the keys visible and then we had a piece of glass made for the front so you can still see the keys. We added a mirror to the back and kept the pegs the strings were attached to so we could hang glasses there. We also made a shelf out of the extra wood parts for the bottom to stand bottles on. And voila he was finished, Pierre the Piano bar!

Your excitement was a joy to watch, and I loved the piano bar, especially the pictures at the end. One thing you might want to consider is using a Acrylic latex plus silicone caulk to fill the small gaps between the wood panels which you can do on a painted piece of furniture. It takes paint nicely and has some flexibility in the event the furniture is moved or expands and contracts. In Canada the product I use is made by Dap

Seriously. You should start a RUclips channel as we found you to be very entertaining. 👍 good job on Pierre. We might try the same.

Lovely project! I have a piano that may not be fixable and this would be a wonderful way to give it new life. I’ve gone b&f btwn bar and desk and your results are just fantastic. Thank you for sharing.

You could keep the strings and put a shield behind the hammers and the hammers behind the string

A piano has 88 keys and they are stamped with numbers so you didnt have to do that.

Most older style pianos had only 85 keys. Modern pianos are all made with 88 keys.
