I think you are mistaken, he defeated naruto by simply looking him in the eye, he was holding back when fighting sasuke and still did so much damage, orochimaru couldnt lay a finger on him, and defeated deidara upon (deidars) attempt to enterthe akatsuki, I think Itachi is stronger than people give him credit to be
