  • In this video, I break down Shin Lim's Americas Got Talent audtion. As with all my videos, this is how I would do the trick, not necessarily how the performer does the trick. Tricks can be executed in many many ways and this is just one possible way it can be done.

    For those people who really seem to be struggling with the concept of an 'edit' in a live show, the part I'm suggesting was edited out you can see in his most recent performance on the Ellen show 'Magician Shin Lim Is Back with Another Amazing Trick!' @ 4:38. There you can see he is dumping the solid block under the table and using the flap. Hopefully this clears it up.

    I think it's safe to say we all know it's a trick but nonetheless be amazed and enjoy watching it and knowing how it may have been done doesn't take anything away from how talented Shin is. Thank you Tiger Tiger Magic for taking the time to make the video to explain. I now have greater appreciation for how easy Shin and the other magicians makes it look which must have taken years to master.

    I saw Shin and Colin at their Vegas show at The Mirage last night. Their showmanship is amazing. They had the audience eating out of their hands. They take turns on the stage with their routines. Very, very different styles, but complementary. Ninety-minutes of either one would get a bit monotonous, I think. Shin is just mesmerizing when he is on stage though, so maybe 90 minutes of him would still be great. Colin got the audience’s energy up with his high energy, then Shin would hypnotize The audience really was loving all of it and gave both of them more than one standing O. It’s fun to “believe” in magic for those 90 minutes. I live in Vegas and will probably go see them again. It’s the most fun I’ve had at a show, except for the Cirque shows - but it matched them for the sense of awe it induced in the entire house. I watched your reveal of Colin’s AGT audition, as well as this one. Your voice is so soothing, and you don’t speak too fast, and I really appreciate how you stop and rewind and replay moves you’re explaining, and use your mouse arrow. I actually understood how Shin did this act with Tyra thanks to your video. I knew Colin had to have plants in the audience, but it was still fun. Shin used audience members too, but I didn’t think they were plants at the time, and after watching you explain this video, I’m sure of it. Thanks so much for your sharing your magician and video skills.

    If ur smart enough or have a magic trick background, watching his act at least twice will give you the idea of how he did it. Ur right, The plastic one is simple, he opened the bottom of the deck cover, he put his hand down for a sex and he slides it down to the back of the table. But hey, he's one hell of a performer, he got balls and the visual is great. Love u shin 👏

    The last part is 100% edited to avoid the obvius move where they take out the solid block of cards. In other show he made a similiar trick (not edited), where you can see perfectly how they really do to take out the content of the box, and let them empty for the final trick. Is really a very simple and obvius move in front of a cam, thats why the reality show desided to cut that part, if you look whit atention, there is a cut just when shim lin put the "block cards" in the box, and when tyra is holding the hand to receive the empty box. Just take a look that we can't see when shim lim tells Tryra to put is hand in the air for the final trick, thats just the part that reality show cuted and when shim lim makes the move that you can't see.

    There's so many butthurt people in the comments. If you don't want to know how a trick is done and ruin the "magic" of it, then simply don't watch the video. Some people like knowing how tricks are done while still being able to appreciate the "magic" of it. I think the narrator did a great job at breaking down the trick. Yes he didn't explain everything, but that's either because they were simpler moves that didn't need to be explained in detail or could easily be looked up. And yes, there were things he didn't know, but that's because only the magician who performs the trick knows how every single move is done. I absolutely love magic, and now this trick is so much more amazing to me after understanding how it's performed. If you don't like the content, then don't waste your time watching it just to complain.

      you know what your problem is, That Girl? Magic as "entertainment" requires *not knowing* so you can be surprised by what you see. That's always been what make s magic great! With everyone exposing every bloody trick, you already know what is happening & it ends up only being good for people who want to be magicians.

    • @thatgirlsam5258
      @thatgirlsam5258 5 лет назад +2

      @@RingJando or, some people just like knowing how things work. I've never aspired to perform magic myself, but I've consumed magic for years. As someone who loves magic, seeing how it's done has not ruined it in anyway for me. For me, it makes it more entertaining. If someone does not want to know how a trick is done, then clicking on a video revealing a trick is stupid. If you don't want to know something, then don't seek out the information.

    What is the problem with people arguing over whether "it's magic" or hating on people showing "how it's done"? MAGIC doesn't exist, so starting with that premise, anyone can offer their take on how the slight of hand performance is executed. Shin Lim is a master showman, so knowing "how" someone thinks he did his act doesn't take anything away from the performance. People just look for reasons to just be petty nowadays...

    And how did he switch the carddecks

    • @thatgirlsam5258
      @thatgirlsam5258 5 лет назад +1

      He had multiple decks ready to use during the performance. They were all sitting behind the table, most likely on a little shelf, ready for him to grab whenever he needed the next deck. Magicians have quick hands. Every once in a while his hand will dip below the edge of the table, and that's when he is switching decks. Hope that made a little bit of sense at least

    you forgot to mention the deck switch that happened when Tyra was signing her card and the camera was focused on her, this allowed Shin to do his behind the table deck switch. Funny how he sells a deck switch but doesn't even uses it lol. Anyways a lot of his dirty work is avoided by the camera men and angles by pre-rehearsals with the crew. This gives Shin the appearance he is better than he actually is! (Also his enormous use of gimmick cards and black art he performs with his black table top pads. However you are right about the final part where that clear block holding her card disappears when he rips the flat box in half, the editing was done to make this look one continuous shot. These are discussed with the producers of the show when it comes to airing in order to make the magic seem much more impressive.

    When and how did he switch to the red deck in beginning though? Also i think the very first deck is not only Queen of spades, it has the blank card already on top and a 7 of hearts on the bottom, at 2:50 he puts the deck on table face up with the 7. I don’t know how that could be the red deck already. It’s unlikely that someone would pick the first or bottom card.

    • @PfropfNo1
      @PfropfNo1 5 лет назад

      Nvm, probably when camera focused on queen of spades just after Tyra picked it.

    there's a trick I would like you to break down it was either on America's got talent OR Britain's got talent where the judges pick a card and then the magician riffles through a deck and a little stick figure reaches into a hat and pulls out a card and it happens to be the card the judges selected the six of diamonds.

      There was a major uproar about that. It's a standard item available at any magic store for around 10 bucks called Cardtoon. It's practically self working and fooled Simon mainly because the magician was awesome and presented it extremely well which proves the saying : It's not what you do, but how you do it.

    If I had to guess, he put the case in the top and took it out the bottom in the same move. That's why his hand is on the bottom and not the side. Not sure why people are saying this isn't a reveal when he explained 99% of the video. Like a bunch of little butthurts that just got told there is no santa.

      many ppl know. they just don't explain it out of respect. also, this type is more of an appreciation of his routine and choreography so this type doesn't call for a "reveal" and would just ruin the immersion for the laymen. now for some of shin's more tricky ones that many ppl are calling "staged" (e.g., ellen's and fallon's shows), i did go out of my way to explain those to some ppl because many ppl actually thought they were staged.
      also, it kind of sucks to reveal every little part of the routine. it's much better (if you're going to make reveal videos), to just reveal the huge mystery part. picking everything apart looks really bad, especially when you do that for a routine that is made to be artistic rather than a fooler.
