Great video James and Happy New Year. Very detailed and thorough overview without being boring. Something different and you reminded me how great SPI was and that SPI's Next War has been sitting on my shelf waiting for me to set it up and play for years now. LOVE those National Guard inclusive lists and beautiful unpunched counters. Yeah I don't know the story of what sources SPI was using to build up their TOEs and ORBATs. Are there any SPI staff interviews available online that you know of? It's funny that the Soviet's vision of NATO aggression came true 2014 to present. I want an SPI t-shirt now..$5 eh? Take my bank cheque now..! I would support but unfortunately unemployed - might have to sell Next War to make "Next Rent" : (
Thanks and happy new year to you too. Dunnigan was regularly working for the US military around this time so had pretty good access to unclassified information I would guess. Not seen any SPI staff interviews but if anyone reads this and fancies an online chat I would love to hear from you (or AH, GDW, etc). Don't worry about not financially supporting you can help by liking, subscribing, commenting and sharing, that is more than appreciated.
If I remember correctly this is a good solo game, as the revolt table does produce some variety so is good to replay. You might also be interested in the East is Red, the soviet invasion of China, perhaps only slightly more complicated.
I do plan to play it solo due to a lack of opponents, I have a copy of the East is Red as I want to use it to look at the 1995 Sino-Soviet War that was part of the original Twilight 2000 background.
@@jameslangham9854 I just remembered there are two versions of the game the first one was just Northern China, the second was wider including Vietnam and Taiwan.

I assume one was magazine, the other boxed?
@@jameslangham9854 Yes, the first one was a boxed game, the second was in the mag with a higher scale of operations
It's the magazine version I have.
