We Need to Talk...

  • I keep seeing people talking about buying counterfeit craft supplies, and it's honestly enraging. I'm not talking about the people who are ignorant to the issues with Temu, Alibaba, AliExpress, and others, but specifically the people who know these sites are bad and continue to buy. We NEED to help the small crafty companies, and the first step is to stop buying from sites like these all together, not with just craft supplies.

You left out a few extremely important considerations. Here's the data Temu (and therefore the Chinese government) is collecting from you: name, address, phone number, birthday, location, IP address, web browsing history, social media accounts and even photos. Imagine the damage someone could do with all that information if they had bad intentions. Even if they don't misuse that information, Temu's prices are low because they are trying to gain market share. They are literally TRYING to run other companies out of business. Think Amazon and how it killed small (and large) bookstores, or Walmart and how it decimated so many small businesses. This goes far beyond the craft industry. Cheap tools, cheap clothes, cheap home decor, cheap holiday decorations, it goes on and on. Speaking of all that cheap stuff. It is ALL coming half way around the world, from China. If you have the slightest concern about the environment and global warming, your purchases are contributing to the slow destruction of our planet. So is all the cheap, disposal crap that gets used once or twice and ends up in local landfills, or worse, gets shipped half way around the world (AGAIN!) to destroy the local economy and environment of struggling third world countries.

Thank you so much for speaking up on this. As the owner and artist for my company, I have had many of my design stolen... Then, having to defend that, I sat and drew in my office with an ink pen.. I had tons of people.Tell me, oh, I must just buy my art from china and result for It for higher prices. This makes me so angry because all of my stamps are made in the United States. They are high quality and excellent stamps. And you're right.A lot of people have been going out of business because of this. Thank you for spreading the word. ❤❤

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Two years ago, I was at a Stamp expo in Pennsylvania. There was a new stand. The booth was very crowded. As I recall, they had a lot of gnome stamps that were in demand. I wandered in after the crowd thinned. And found a die that I loved. I didn’t recognize the company, but the design sold itself. And the price was right. I bought the die. And went to another booth. I went back to this booth later in the day. Was looking more closely at the dies. Then, one popped out at me. I have the exact EXACT same set by Lawn Fawn. I use it all the time. It was a knock off. Stollen design. It made me angry. I stopped shopping there. Notified Lawn Fawn. Stamps dies stencils…there are companies stealing these from reputable companies. I would suggest not buying products made by unknown companies until you know more about the company. I want to mention the booth is still around, but I think they may no longer carry the products of the knock off company.

I have been telling my family and friends that I choose to support American crafting companies and do not buy from foreign companies. In the past, I purchased a die on Amazon that was unbranded. It was something I had never seen before so I was sure it was not a ripped off item. The die was a geometric shape, very symmetrical, with small pieces that should have been the same size. I found out they were not when I tried to paper piece. What a nightmare! So you are right when you say they are not the same quality as the American made products. All that being said, I live in a medium sized city, with few stores to purchase paper crafting supplies. Just the big box stores, Joann, Hobby Lobby, and Michaels. Even they have cut way back on what is available for papercrafters, unless you are using a Cricut. Rarely do I find anything in second hand or charity thrift stores. Being on a fixed income, I can rarely afford the newest items being offered by the crafting companies. You can understand why some people may choose to purchase cheaper offerings. I am trying to use what I have and cut back on purchasing, but when I do, I spend my money with American businesses, particularly, small businesses when possible.

Excellent video! 👏🏻 The more creators stand up and post about this, the more likely people will stop purchasing from these horrible companies!

  • @shawnbond

Not too long ago I found a ton of Stampin’ Up stamps at a thrift store for really cheap🥰

  • @laraszoo

Great video! Thank you for speaking out! We have to support all our favorite designers and companies!

  • @joanneguarino170

I totally agree with you, Brennan! I have never bought anything from those illegitimate companies and never will. I want to support all those small businesses out there. Thanks for speaking out!

  • @susanjr1202

I quit buying from China .I had a bad feeling ..but stealing designs I haven't thought of...

  • @debraruge1736

    Amen!

  • @terryholland2526

Preach it!!! I agree with you. I don't spend money at Temu b/c I heard it was not a good company or has taken your money but not send the product. So I just don't purchase from there. Thank you for this information.

  • @doloresr5514

Thanks for speaking up. I never purchase a product from Temu or others like them.

  • @kcinca5410

Kismet. My husband was telling me last night about a friend who was burned by Temu and I said to him that Temu and companies like it are literally taking money out of the hands of Americans by stealing their stuff and just about everything else you stated so well. I know buying the real thing can be expensive but we need to put our money where are mouths are. I don't buy from known knock off companies. There are also American brands I don't buy because of their policies. I know for some people money is the bottom line for everything. When I first started crafting, I had very, very little money. I had to make do and save up to buy things I wanted. Sometimes that meant that one time a year I was able to buy a few things on sale. Those items were well made by well known companies and I still have the products that weren't consumables. You also get what you pay for.

  • @cardzbyzanne

Brennan, first of all what a great role model you are! And thank you for trying to educate everyone and the people still justifying, keep it up and there will be no more companies left.

Agree totally with what you said and thanks for saying it.

  • @sandrapotter1785

Great video, well spoken!! Thank you for helping to get the truth out!!

  • @bonniem3567

My main problem is looking for stamps/dies no longer sold at the main company and me searching for it being sold by other sites. 😂 some UK sites still carry the no longer sold sets but I worry so much they’ll be fake. 😩 I don’t want fake, I want the real deal. ❤

  • @shawnbond

Great video Brennan! I can tell you are very adamant about this. You can hear it in your voice 🥰 exact how to

  • @WorldofMichaelTrent

Well said. Thanks for posting this message. Too many small stores and brands are going out of business and there will be more. At some point there will be nothing for China to copy. Scary for artists and crafters. Keep up the great work you are doing here.
