In India, we have started mid day meals which works as an incentive for primary and secondary school students to not drop out. Also, many provinces provide free cycles and school uniforms to girls to come to school. Central government has made RTE a law and every private school across India has to keep certain percentage of the seats in each grade for students from weaker sections of the society.
Great
True , even I benefitted from this initiative( govt school mid day meals),now studying at iit roorkee for btech (2019-2023) and can provide my family and society with some valuable contribution
@@ThePakistanExperienceInvestment in education is pretty important
@@ThePakistanExperience❤❤ from India
I studied free of cost upto class 12 .
My mother served as teacher in Punjab govt sector all her life.
And let me tell you the one of the core problems of our education system is the lack of passion in our teachers. My mother worked so hard and often went out of the way to inspire girls to continue education and not drop out. She personally gave incentives to her students. Asked us( we were schooled in the best of the best schools) to give her ideas on how to teach her students in a better way.
She had the opportunity of establishing a new girls school in a very run down area and there were numerous challenges and she tirelessly worked to promote enrollment and created funds to provide sweaters, bags and amenities to children.
What I'm trying to say is if our teachers are poor, the quality difference between the public and private sector will grow by light years.
Bah !! Your mother was great.
:(
kudos to your mom, massive respect to your mom

One of the best podcasts of all time, all the right questions were asked and Dr. Faisal Bari is a fountain of knowledge, truly enlightening.

Some new realities are unrevealed in this podcast, love the way FB explained these realities and also told the ways to solve these issues
🙌
Wonderful conversation. Definitely one of those I'll be listening again.
🙌
Important conversation--Knowledge, experience, wisdom and fact based. Thank you Faisal Bari. Thank you Shehzad.
🙌
It’s surprising that Dr. Faisal Bari just didn’t get it at 1:56 when shehzad intuitively said “Sur ye to meri zindagi ka masla hai”..! It was an epic punch line which was right on time but seems except Shehzad no one in comments could get it ..!!?
What an excellent initiative and so comprehensive a conversation with great coherence Thank you

The entire education system of the subcontinent needs a fixing today...We r still so focussed on rote learning that the students do not even develop a mind that can think critically and question everything...
Yes!
Question papers are so framed that children have no go but rote, those who don't won't get admission in institute and stream of choice.
Has any Business, Management Institute nominated students on its Board to give them real exposure. After all educational institutes are being operated akin ti business.
if we could shift to curriculum based asessments rather than textbooks so students will be needing to rely on 2-3 books to get the concept in much details. Bas abh ye implement hojae and we will be seeing its result within 5 to 10 years.
Again, me working on my code and this podcast in the background! What a treat 😀

I've been waiting for you to cover education from a macroeconomic perspective in Pakistan. Thanks! Looking forward to listening to it

One big advantage of shifting from textbooks based assesments to curriculum based is tha our students wont be relying on ratta you can see fbise implemented SLOs based examinations successfully so why not all the other provinces.
Didn't know who Dr. Faisal Bari was before but it has become one my fav podcasts.

@@user-np4kq5wf1l Thanks for the suggestion. Would listen to it tonight
Lovely to see professsor bari. I did a field trip with him and took a course as well and the depth of the person and the humbleness is legendary.
I would wonder though - we are also educating individuals in a variety of schools, colleges and universities and leaking them from the country in the form of brain drain. Would an emphasis on education curb that flow or we have to create other incentives for that to happen
🙌
Excellent podcast as always! Hurt but hopeful that Pakistan will see better days! Ameen. Keep up TPE for always keeping Pakistan first !

Regarding transport system, the thing is Lahore city wasnt planned in an organized manner. The traffic situation is bad here. Public transport i.e. busses can't function here now. If Govt. initiate them somehow it means more traffic jams considering narrow roads.
I really like your podcast the reason is the guests you invite and you let them share their ideas , we need these ideas to go into the public in order for us especially me to develop an understanding about a particular topic or even think critically.
🙌
As an educationist in the health sector a lot of these are common sense issues and solutions. But nothing changes much over the decades because 'jinko parwa ha, unko ikhtyar nahin; aur jinko ikhtyar ha unko parwa nahin"
Eye-opening podcast! It was my first time listening to Dr. Faisal, but it's abundantly evident he's studied and thought about our education-crisis deeply and has immense wisdom and knowledge.
Is there any way us, the privileged, can do our part and help out?
🙌
Yar idk much but if a privileged person wants to help out he should first influence children towards education. Ap ek ya do needy bachon ka education ka kharcha needs wagera sub kuch uss ek ya do bache ko do. Achi school ka khud search krk usko uss school mei admission dilwado. Do as much as you can afford for that kid. Ek ya do bache k education ka kharcha bhi ajkal lakh sei oupr chala jata lekin agr log zakat o khairat ya achi achi asashon pei ithna paisa laga sakte toh ap k liye ek bache ki education expenses uthana koi ithni bari mushkil nhi ho sakti

I discovered my dad's grandpa's school documents from British era 1800's 😊 they were infact given Certificate of passing in school final. Hygiene was one of the subjects too at that time. He did his schooling from his village in Southern India.😊 I am really surprised and shocked sitting in 2023 u guys r discussing Education at a bare basic level!? What were u guys doing during Pre-independence Pak geography of current time!??? My Grandma was a qualified Chartered accountant went on to learn software programming in her 50's😊.
BW - Every generation of my family one or the other became teachers- school , college , University. To this day it continues. We r so happy luckily that we r still seen with Respect , honour by our alumni across the world.
Wahh. Congrats. Really glad on your success! Hope u got the validation u were seeking on a podcast from a country that God knows what they were doing while your grandma was learning software in 50’s :) As a Pakistani, im here because the matter of education in my country effects me and my patriotic spirit. But always wonder what all the indians in the comments are listening these podcasts for? Validation and feel good vibes I assume :) very telling of the educated mindset in india.

The narrative of hate is the downfall of your nation Saeed.
Good luck
The fact that you took my comment as hate makes me wonder how everything in your life must be stimulated externally. Why care about my nation’s downfall while yours is clearly succeeding. And before you see irony in my statement, look inwardly to find out why ‘you’ think im actually not applauding that but must mean something else. Also you never answered my question, ‘why are sooooo many indians watching Pakistani poscasts? To get educated or feel good about themselves. Its a shame you wouldnt agree to either 🫤
Wow! U really come from an educated family.
In those times passing the matric examination was also an achievement!
Insightful and thought provoking discussion
I urges you to invite professor joga singh virk of punjabi univercity patiala , who have deep knowledge on this topic ,several state govts in india take his advice regarding education and linguistic issues.
It is Dr. Murali Manohar Joshi who planned and implemented Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to improve quality of education, NIT, more IITs. He looks humble but a nuclear physics professor...
The guy is philosopher and has such a calm rational tone. Nice.
I noticed in pak experts opinions either they suggest impossible things or not reasonable ideas.
Everyone ,try to show other nation policies, rather than understanding their own strength .
Salam, good talk. I hope all the recommendations of Dr Bari Sb are implemented soon.

An interesting and thought Provoking discussion. However, discussion on the role of non-profits, their limitations and plus-points could also have given some more insights into the subject. Anyways, was an excellent discussion!

Firstly, i would congratulate you on utilising this platform on highlighting the very basic issue of our country and bringing so much knowledge to us. Thankyou for that. Secondly, being a lawyer, who graduated from an external programme degree (University of London), wants to pursue his career but degree itself is not enough for graduates like me to start from scratch, we need at-least 2 more years to understand the very basic of Pakistani Law. Please do have an experienced lawyer to critically evaluate the whole problem and provide solution to this.

Indian here. From karnataka, state language is kannada but govt has opened urdu medium school with kannada as a subject. I feel so grateful to be born here
Urdu?so what was the reason for that?
I mean urdu is not karnataka's language, I think it's uttar pradesh's.
There are some people who do speak urdu but there are more people who speak other languages like hindi and stuff.
I have seen people in karnataka being conservative when it comes to kannada but getting liberal for Urdu seems new.

EdTech can be very very helpful in primary education, but not for students. It can be used extensively for teachers training and evaluation.
If EdTech added with AI is implement at public sector for evaluation of teachers that is linked with incentives and promotion etc. can be very helpful.
Good show, invite the guest again.
EDTech is good only for older or matured people/kids. Kids need social interaction and human involvement. So its better that we stick to im person in school teaching with a little bit of hybrid model showing informative videos in class.
Who is responsible for the curriculum?
Without doubt, the most important person in the curriculum implementation process is the teacher. With their knowledge, experiences and competencies, teachers are central to any curriculum development effort.

What is syllabus in American?
What Is a Syllabus? Why Syllabuses Are Important | Shorelight
A syllabus is a document that outlines all the essential information about a college course. It lists the topics you will study, as well as the due dates of any coursework including tests, quizzes, or exams. Your professors will give you a syllabus for each of your college classes
Till the truth is taught to students from the school itself, even students passing has no meaning.

Please share the portion on vouchers as a part of the clips. I think too many of these suggestions are part of a top down approach from pollicy makers with a very limited perspective. Miftah Ismail's suggestion seems to be a bit vague and based on anecdotal evidence.
On it
We in India too have to go through the local language issue. We have more languages in this country than in Pakistan. The educationists came up with a three language formula where in the student learns English, their local language and a third language of any other state/Sanskrit/or a foreign language. One should remember that language is only a medium through which the child learns other important subjects like Math, Science and Social studies. I personally feel one only one language should be mandatory (English) and a second language could be taught which could be the child's mother tongue. Instead of using their valuable time to acquire the knowledge of a third language they could learn other important subjects.
