let’s talk about our democracy 🇮🇩

- In August, Indonesia witnessed a wave of massive protests in response to the rushed RUU Pilkada draft, which parliament attempted to pass in just two days. This bill became the tipping point for widespread frustration over a series of undemocratic moves by political elites, raising concerns about the erosion of Indonesia’s democracy. However, in this video, we'll take a closer look at the real size and impact of this movement, dispelling misconceptions and media narratives. We'll also explore the generational divide in how democracy is perceived by younger and older Indonesians.
Let’s get to the bottom of what’s really happening with democracy in Indonesia and how the country’s political landscape might evolve.

I think not a lot of people really notice that Mr. D (yg ada di thumbnail video ini), is actually one of the heavy hitter politicians behind presidential election and a lot of political events lately. Trying to foresee political dynamics from the regime perspective is interesting as hell
so in short:
we got scammed.
we got bamboozled.
we got top ten anime betrayals.

I think expecting the ruling class to actually conform to the principles of democracy is like expecting actors for a movie to also act like their characters in real life. They would just smile and think us crazy in their mind.
Democracy in Indonesia under Mulyono's term is the worst it's ever been and I do not expect it to become better in the next few years... also our economy is tanking right now... joblessness is at an all time high which caused deflation and basically expect the 1998 riot to happen again in the next few years if things are not better.
Agreed
Unemployment rate is far from the highest point.

I feel like we also should talk about Indonesia having dozens of party that does not have clear stand on some ideal and seem to focus on gaining power. We see this from how alliance and betrayal seem like a normal occurences in presidential election and the aftermath of it. Jokowi finnaly turning his back from Mega, Psi and Nasdem leaving Anies to join kim, this shit feel like game of throne 💀, oh yeah talking about why A LOT OF INVESTORS are in a party, the answers is pretty simple, presidential campaign is expensive I see some user on reddit comment on why we should give party a certain amount of funding for the election, Idk how this would work but I think this is interesting thing to talk about. Third thing I wanna talk about is information, with a lot of buzzer everywhere ranging from politician own tv chanel, social media, to keyboard warrior, I think its fairly easy for some people to get sucked in their echo chamber and this also make some people that may not be very interested in politic skeptic of choosing any side and prefer pragmatic approach instead.
BTW BIG W VIDEO BIG W EDITING & PRODUCTION
Semua partai ideologi sama Pancasila centralis.
Apapun partainya kebijakan sama = membela Pancasila, memberantas kemiskinan dan narkoba.

10:06 fail Democracy .
As well as "solat sebagai tiang agama" Political parties are the pillars of democracy.
Ketiadaan perbedaan ideologi.

After 'the' too good to be true first governance under jokowi, i still cant believe that constitution and law can be custom made by the end of his 2nd service as elected president. Disappointed big time!
There's no way this is going to be Orde Baru 2.0😢
This is not the democracy i picture. We can only hope... this too shall pass.. God help us.
I may be putting off like this. The Sentient beings are the subject and the democracy is the object. As literally known that object has its thoroughly secondary position in its natural existence. It is not the object as the cause of a failure, it's the subject.
There are a lot of causes for it. Mainly modern men who are puppeting democracy as an object, system, the regulative idea or whatsoever we named it held the core gist of responsibility to it all.
Shortly, Wayang has its own magical literary charm-looking thing. But, it all depends on the puppeteer who directs and narrates the plots.

I love how you conclude our futures as open ended big question mark. We -as The New Generation- , can set our own futures. BUT, considering how many of younger generations comments on other platform, it seems our futures is bleak as hell.
This kind of content that will make politics stuff become cool in younger demographics if you what i mean😂
plz keep it like this
feel like this video need to be made in bahasa cus alot of indonesian wouldnt watch this just because its in english. if the goal is to spread a message and increase knowledge. i feel like this problem is not just felt toward gen z. the older generations (felt alot here, tho this opinion came from family friends and neighbor) atleast outside of java maybe (i live in sumatra) also felt this weird choices that the goverment made and they also dont like it.
and the moment they play god and decide its okay to change the rule of muslim for going to hajj is now just sunnah instead of a must if you are able, they just wouldnt want to listen to anything from government now.
Tbh imo, the choice on making it in english makes sense. Perhaps it's their target audience. Making it in english makes it filters out the 'a lot of Indonesians' which some are buzzers or people who doesnt take this seriously and would just spam unrelated things. This video is more like an invitation, mainly gen z, who wanted to discuss abt the current situation without the annoyance of some idiot saying 'njir serius amat' on their comments.
Though it's just my take
@@anotherhetalian8499 that is true too. dammit there really is no right answer to this int it

OOT:
This BIS's way of narrating and attracting certain potential subscribers reminds me of supercoolben.
Both engaged viewer by using universally acceptable joke within sub internet culture (mainly spoken in English) combined with context that is relevant to Indonesian viewers.
This attracted a certain kind of subscribers whom are culturally educated, and small yet still growing in number in near future.
Seeing as how supercoolben getting more popular an influental despite not constantlt getting significant increase/boost in his subs,
It may seem that BIS is prioritizing gaining a certain loyal subs base in order to get more exposure and infuence to a more broader audience .
(These loyal subscribers will likely promote BIS to bigger youtuber whom they followed, asking for collab or an invitation to podcast).
From what i can take here :
-Our democracy is Decreased, not dying
-it filled with Old politicians and Populist from New order
-Most of us see Democracy as a tool and not seeing as a value too
-We must ask ourselves as people, is our identity tied to authotharianism, Democracy, Or Both?
From what i can take maybe its not about uhh Mulyono sucks, Opposition 100% protagonist
But more like on how Shaky our democracy is that it led to these Authocratic Values happen during Mulyono's term. Not only that, Our democracy only runs for 28 years, Not much longer than Timor Leste and most Soviet sattelite states.
Tbf as a student i didnt understand these things too well , Theres parts i cant really fully understand. But i get the point that Our Democracy is going in a path that is concerning, Not dying but concerning.
And as a younger generation itself i really wanna help to shape my homeland to something less shithole.
Also about the question that we didnt have opposition but can still vote, Uhh TNO calls it Controlled Democracy.
And uhh, I'm SMA so don't take my words seriously, maybe I'm just Larping thinking I'm a genius when in reality I'm as stupid as Kaiser Wilhelm II

Hey good contents
The next president already said that democracy is tiresome. Also there's barely any opposition left to act as check n balance. I think its safe to say on his rule we expect more declining on democracy. I just hope it doesn't turn into new orba tho, if that happen fleeing the country might be one of best option later 😂

Hbd,
first, i am not that smart. can someone tell me how do they count the democratic indeks scale?
then, i am a firm believer democracy without education is destruction. And to say that indonesia is the most well-educated country is literaly not true.
government may not have the perfect policy, but in my opinion, indonesian folk are too used with being rude culture, like toxic twitter space and violence protest. so to pratice democracy in indonesia is not particulary easy.
I love memes
Ayo Happy Birthday Mr Buzzer🔥🔥🔥
I think the democracy in Indonesia still running on the right track.
i don't think the democracy in our country was controling by the government, because everything we see right now, the next president or elected presidential candidate was chooseen by the majority of the people in our country. and that was democracy.
and we can see u still have right to tell or speak about your opinion or have a right about freedom of speech. and that was democracy
do our country have a multiply party? off course.
so, why you say something is wrong with our democracy?
everything i see about the people who loseing the election is they want to commit crime again the president right now, and that was wrong or again the rules.
do the media have right about independentcy? of course. but if they still on the right track, like telling the fact maybe. the government is not controling the media.
but the problem with today media is the Media its self was support ing crime and not telling the truth, and that was again the rules.
see, i have my right to talk about my opinion. like, you have your right about telling your opinion and this is freedom of speech. am i right?
But if people try to commit a crime, we not gonna let that happened. because that was again the rules and we can allowed that.
and finally, don't say you represent all the Indonesian people. because there is a majority of government supporters who definitely have different choices from you and you clearly are not representing them or their right. not all Indonesian people have a same choices like you bro.
The point of arguments for me is the word "failing". It means that we have not yet failed but we are on that track.
I want to talk about your last point for example, recently Indonesia have been trying to control the internet, but fortunately it doesn't have the power to. Minister of Kominfo have expressed the feeling to wants to follow the example of China in control of internet.
For example making google to register under the law of indonesia which doesn't go really well fortunately but they still negotiate something, some youtube videos are censored by Indonesian government. Google search is filtered by default. And many more that i can't remember on top of my head.
And another example of crucial endangerment of free internet in Indonesia is banning the use of unauthorized DNS services. In simple terms if you don't really know much about technology, if this is fully applied. You can only browse the internet address only from the address the government accepted. This fortunately once again hasn't see light of day since i last heard the topic.
Right track RAI MU
Disagree. Democracy is not just about election every 5 years. Its about every thing else e.g. free speech, free press, the right to organise, healthy opposition, checks and balances, civil society, rule of law, transparency not censorship, consensus building, etc. You get it, its a way of life. Everything here has been under attack for 10 years.
This is really concerning how OP failed to see through what BIS was trying to convey yet realized that Media, the fourth Pillar of Democracy, is not functioning as it should be.

Still can we not discuss about democracy? While it is certainly a trend, I’m under the impression that we all agreed by definition that Indonesia is a democracy in our constitution and amendments despite our authoritarian streak.

The fact is now many regional leaders isn't appointed but elected directly, should tell you something.
Yes the central govt had many "under the table" and shady dealing like Mulyono son, but he himself is the product of our current systems,
He himself doesn't had real power beside the tittle of "mulyono son's" the one that had power is wowo which is part of new order and back by the military. 🤦♂️
