@@BreDrawzis it okay to make the self inserts have different traits from you different gender, sexuality, skin complexion, race, different body type, disabilities, etc also i hear many people talk about ageing down the self insert to be shipped with a character younger than the person but none about ageing up the self insert to ship with a character older than the person sorry for the long question i need to know
FOR REAL. I genuinely don’t get why people always get so mad about self insert ocs. At the end of the day, it’s just some silly drawings and it’s not hurting anyone. Also, ZOOBLE!! They’re so underrated
I wish people didn't attack people for just having fun.. Creating oc's and self-inserts does no harm, and the fact people have the mind to do something harmful rather than keeping something to themselves is awful. I love the art you've made!
sometime i think to myself "maybe i should get tiktok so i can get my art more out there and get more recongition!" and then i see videos like this, and i am reminded why i dont have these platforms 😭 ALSO ZOOBLE!!!!! AH!!!!!!!!! Zooble is my fav character so i am currently screaming internally
As somebody who has TT you could still get it and you know just block or not interact with videos like this I know it is still very scary that's the exact reason I don't like Twitter but you know I'm just saying
I tried making a total drama oc once, but at that point the oc side of the fandom was being overflooded by ppl who made their own “baddie” self inserts (who probably didn’t even watch the show anyway, because some of the weird character redesigns they were making completely went against the tone of the show and characters). I think once that happened, the fandom became weirdly gatekeep-y about ocs, which made it so that even when people who actually WERE fans of the show tried to make characters.. they just got bullied for it.
Yeah, the total drama fandom is extremely rude to insert creators now, especially after total drama roblox came out, they think everyone is a fake fan so they just start bashing whoever they think is new, and since the popularity of the show grew, more hate did too.
@@BreDrawz yeah, it seems like a lot of ppl are really pretentious about how they’ve “always been fans”. personally, I think total roblox drama is a good thing, if it weren’t for flamingo playing it, I probably wouldn’t have started watching total drama.
It's ironic that when someone takes a canon character and forces their headcanons and makes the characters ooc is celebrated but when you make an oc you get hated for some reason. 🙄
ITS SO FUN TO MAKE NEW OC'S FOR FANDOM'S! I don't get what is going on Tiktok's mind bc what they are doing is stupid. I always make a new oc for fandoms that i really enjoy its just so fun .
♥ it's not just tiktok ya fetus (no offense homie)!! this has always been a thing online in fact back in the day it was on the very app you're on now! OOOooooOOOOOOOooooooOOOOOO!! pretty spooky right? ƪ( ` ▿ ´ ƪ) ♥
Self-insert ocs are a great way to get into writing. You already have a world with lore to play with and all you gotta do is squeeze your character in there with everyone else and play by the world's rules. Then later on you can graduate to making your own lore, maybe even your own world.
Tiktok is really is filled with people with little to no empathy. I saw a video where someone made a slideshow about someone passing away i think and placed a kid spiderman suit on what was left from a crushed building, the pictures said "anyone can wear the suit" and the only thing in the comments was about pastel spider and how we are ""glorifying obesity"" by not shaming the creator and the oc in every spider man releated video. i really dont get it. How doess that even make sense and how can anyone says such things in the first place? let alone under a video about someones death.
I don’t get it So when kids make self inserts or ocs for their favorite shows it’s wrong, but when a 30 year old ships themselves with a 5 year old people would say “it’s fiction”. Why do people get so upset about pixels 😭
It’s fine if kids ship themselves with kids, because they’re also kids. I personally find it weird when adults ship themselves with kids, since in most cases the artist of the character wants you to view the character as kids. All their traits are basically child-like traits. I get it’s fictional, but I just find it weird adults find these characters that act like full on kids attractive
Because kids shipping themselves with kid characters is fine since they are in the same age group aka minors however if a 30 year old adult does it, it's disgusting since that character is a minor. However there are certain stances where artists get hate for a good oc for the wrong reason like their self insert or oc is a gaurdain or sibling figure. Sibling figure ocs are okay I think
Fr!!! People will make all the excuses in the world for proshippers doing genuinely disgusting things, but then the same people will turn around and act like self inserts/ocs are the “real” problem. The mental gymnastics are wild.
another problem with the tik tok art community is when fully grown adults make fun of LITERAL CHILDREN for drawing "bad" , you arent gonna be born a perfect artist, EVERY SINGLE ARTIST began somewhere and these kids just wanna share their art journey and thats fine yall need to chill
Oh my god, this is so true. Actually, one time, back when I had my old artsyle, i posted a funny little trend bc i felt like it and i was bored, and someone literally commented "Garbage". Like, one, what type of insult is that? Two, Im not Picasso so shut up, its literally just a drawing!
I agree. When I started drawing as a kid my drawings weren't exactly perfect but with time and practice I got better ( when I draw human characters I struggle a bit with anatomy so I use screenshots of drawing bases to help )
There’s this girl on tiktok who used to do self inserts and I honestly loved them, I never personally saw any hate comments or anything though so I’m relieved, because she is an amazing, kind artist (depending on how you are towards them), and it would be a shame to be her chased off the platform like pastel spider. It’s honestly sad how people can’t keep their opinions about something to theirselves and always want to rant about what people like and how it’s wrong or cringe, self inserts aren’t a crime, it’s just some fun stuff to do to entertain yourself and add on excitement to a break from a busy or stressful schedule.
People need to understand that self inserts are perfectly fine, the reason why some people are uneasy about it is some people can go way too far with it and it can turn mentally harmful .
To everyone in the comment section with self inserts/dr-selves KEEP DOING WHAT UR DOING!! Make them as powerful as YOU want make them as rude as YOU want make them date whoever YOU want (as long as its legal). It's for fun and if you enjoy doing this dont stop :3
I don't get hate sharing my art and oc's on my TikTok. But I feel bad for the people who do get hate. Why can't we just be nice to each other? It's not that hard.💔
I get hate on yt for saying I have an oc and they said it's cringe and so what if it is at least I have a better chance of becoming an artist then you getting views on your comment
I have a story with this. I made a bugbo oc and I made little animations where I put him in the show I worked hard on the animations just to get a bunch of comments saying “and bumblebee” It got to the point where I had a breakdown and deleted my animation that I worked so hard on and blocked so many people. I posted a bunch of stuff basically saying that I “may never come back” I did eventually but it took me a while to come back.
No one can be happy with toxic fictosexuals, toxic selfshippers and toxic people who ship other characters with other characters in a fandom. I have seen this multiple times, toxic a selfshipper or fictosexual will harass someone if they got the same f/o as them or if they see someone shipping their oc with their character crush or they'll filp out if their crush is shipped with another character in the show. Now toxic people who ship canon characters together have done the same damn thing, if they see their precious "ship" being destroyed by someone shipping themselves/oc with a character they'll be pissed and even get mad at other people who ship another canon character with that character. No one can win with this shit
i think why oc's are getting hated so much, its probably because when people make oc's out of cartoons/anime they trace characters from the show as their oc's and don't give credit claiming it their artwork. but having an oc is not bad even i have one.
@@hope539 I wouldn’t call myself a self-shipper since I do ship my OCs with cannon characters lol- I ship Rainbow Dash with my OC Midnight Lapis I simp for Rainbow tho lol I ship Rain
Thank you for saying that about adults shipping themselves with children. I knew a grown-ass Harry Potter adult who self-shipped with Draco Malfoy and was a reality shifter. A lot of times my brain comes up with excuses for weird behavior like this just because I don’t want to feel uncomfortable around people who are supposed to be my friends… Probably need to ghost that person, we don’t talk much these days anyway.
I’m a longtime oc x canon/selfshipper, like since I was 10 (now 18 turning 19) and for me it’s been a coping mechanism so seeing people bullying others for something like this which is mostly harmless is super disheartening. :/
Same! I love self shipping,I always delete the haters comments and keep what am I doing,It’s really annoying when people just see anything then judge, complain.
It's honestly so fun to make self inserts and making fake scenarios but its so sad that people attack self inserts because why are they mad, it doesnt change the lore at all, like we're just having fun :(
Almost every show/movie/game I play I have a character that is a self insert (in my head of course, it helps me understand the plot of what was going on)
I am very much aware, at the time I just saw it happening a lot more recently on there, pretty much as a trend. People commented the exact same things and made videos on it, so I discussed the TikTok aspect.
I have a self insert, and sure. She's me. But she isn't op, isn't shipped with a canon character, isn't loved by everyone in that universe, has flaws and is like wrong most of the time due to her naivety. She's just my comfort character's kid. So I can roleplay on for example character ai as her with my comfort character, for fun!
For me, my definition of self insert is drawing myself in the particular style/ how I would look if I was in that universe. Idk if people insert themselves into the storyline but that’s reserved for my OCs. OCs to me are characters I have created and will insert into the plot line and give a character arc or trauma( I tend to go very heavy on the trauma). I might also pair them with a canon character with no love interest because THAT CHARACTER NEEDS SOME LOVE DAMNIT. Sometimes it’ll get so intricate that I’ll design specific weapons, abilities, and attacks. In a reply I’ll list one of my favorite weapons I’ve created.
Weapon: Life Dagger Description: a short blade that is from ones wrist to elbow in length and about two inches wide. The hilt is made of vines forged into a metal of pale green, is extremely durable. The blade is a very faint pale red, like it’s glowing with some sort of heat. Vines from the hilt wrap around the blade, adding extra damage and a 20% chance of poison Ivy which lasts for three turns. The blade itself is forged out of ancient steel enchanted with the rage of the mountains, which adds an attack boost of 10% and allowing the use of a rockslide which paralyzes the opponent for two turns at a 15% chance. Attacks: Slash: a quick and agile attack that strikes the opponent with the blade Life seep: the blade is stabbed into the ground and will stay there for three turns stealing health from the opponent and restoring health to the party. Pickpocket: grab a random item from the opponent’s bag Sharpen: used for one turn, attack goes up for the next two turns Deflect: protects a chosen party member and protects them from the upcoming attack Safeguard:prevents selected party member from having their health drop to zero There’s more but I’m too busy to lest them :)
FINALLY someone that points that out. like since I was a kid I ALWAYS self inserted into pretty much every show or movie I liked. nowadays, I just see people getting hate for self inserts for them being cringe or too op or something???? like, we're not making new high-quality characters, we're just self inserting for our own fun, like- why is that such a problem? and I see this happening even with ocs and self inserts that dont even change much the story like???? wtf do you want me to do? am I just not allowed to take part on my favourite series/movie??? I do agree with your point on the weird proshipping tho
Self-inserts are only bad if they’re something like Velma in the Velma reboot. Honestly, I have loads of self-inserts! The majority of my OCs are all self inserts in some way! In fact, every character has an element of the creator.
I Personally Have A Couple OCs For Shows Or Stuff I Like. But Now I Have These Two Joke OCs That Can Bend Any Rule Of Reality Possible And Just Enter Them Into Any Universe I Want Them To For The Funny.
I been thinking about making self-inserts for a while now but it gets so much hate so I'm afraid of making them thank you for informing people on this topic!
wait til they find out that most characters are technically self inserts of the author's thoughts and opinions istg this doesn't only happen on tiktok i see the same complaint from media reviewers ALL THE TIME especially the animation reviewers it's so aggravating!! characterization is my favorite part of writing and clearly none of them know how it works but act like they know all 😭 not saying all self inserts are portrayed well, but they ignore the fact that the characters are very much flawed in a way that it damages the other characters in the story but only bring up that they're a self insert. you can say they're a self insert, but PLEASE don't gloss over the very obvious destructiveness of a character and boil their entire personality down to just a "self insert"
I can understand looking at someone sideways for liking a fictional kid, but allot of shows and franchises don’t age them up. Besides, personally, someone can draw all the C.N self-shipping they want or *more* as long as they: 1- don’t go full shad-art. You *never* go full shad-art 2- you’re not into IRL minors. Only in those two examples will I start to squint my eyes in suspicion. Side-note, self-inserts and sonas are fun for me to make, as my brain often (out of my control) just… inserts me into whatever fiction I’m hyperfixating on. Sometimes my self-inserts become their own characters, often their just “me, but different-ish”
I enjoy making self inserts/ocs as a whole, it can be a fun way to connect to what you make, and if you dont wanna read someones fanfiction or look at their fanart thats their business, personally, i like making ocs and rping with them but reading someones fanfiction about their character isn't for me Also, on the whole aging down thing, i agree it can be creepy or weird to age yourself down to be their age, but what if its a character u grew up with who you still like?
I’ve actually been bullied for it before and had to delete the video I created. (The character was just friends with one of the characters, nothing creepy or anything really) and there was a time when I was younger when I would make oc to be shipped with the characters which I don’t do as much but still do. After seeing it happen so much I’ve chopped it all down to jealousy or uncomfort because either they want to have a fan base around their own characters and have their self-inserts be loved and can’t, or they hate seeing the ‘canon’ of a charge ‘broken’ by a non-canon character.
FINALLY! Someone who talks about it! I did self insert on a movie called Tom and Jerry: Back To Oz (A sequel to the Tom and Jerry and The Wizard Of Oz Crossover, even though both gets hate, I love them.) and even though I didn't get hate about it, I did get harmless joke comments on them. But back to the topic, thank you for talking about this.
I do have an self insert myself. I have a couple main crushes, one that I was worried would look troublesome, but I came up with a solution. My fandom takes place over a few year and both my self insert OC and the canon character grow up together. I absolutely don’t stand for this and I don’t want people thinking that I do either.
I make a lot of self inserts and for the most part it’s just so me and my friends can connect with media we enjoy on a deeper level. In my opinion I actually think making self inserts or ocs for fandoms can actually be very beneficial to artists as it can help them explore art styles, character design, and story.
I made a South Park oc and people started saying THEY HOPED MY OC WOULD DIE my oc was only 9 like the other characters and she wasn’t a self insert or anything just a silly oc and people were so hurtful I was thinking about quitting
Yeah I got hate because I self ship myself with a character name Rayman and I do get hate because the “height difference” that’s a stupid excuse, and no surprise that they called me quote unquote “problematic” because of the height difference
making rayman any taller than like 3 feet tall would be blasphemy, plus if it's the version of rayman from that netflix show he's so clearly an adult man so what is even "problematic" about it, why are people like this.
@@ranchustars3050 exactly just because I’m like 5’4 ft tall and Rayman’s like somewhere around 5 ft and people saying that’s “proship and pedophilia” even tho it isn’t, so I don’t completely understand what’s the point
Oc/self insert characters… there something people do a lot when they join fandoms. I think these are great ways to express yourself. The fact that people hate on plus size ocs is just disgusting… I think tiktok forget that people actually look like this… plus-size people are amazing, they’re just as beautiful as everyone else, what has society come to this day? Why are we hating on people for their body’s when they can’t control it. People might have eating disorders. I rlly think these people need to be stopped. We need to stop hate.
I have a kny OC and I like to roleplay! What adults do with self insert OC’s is just plain out toxic. I can’t believe people actually do that (the shipping thing)
I have a lot of ocs that I make for fandoms and most if not all become their own characters. Making an oc for a fandom is my way of expressing my love for a fandom. Even my persona in a way in a fandom oc (it’s more of I slapped them into the fandom since their lore can easily be put into anything really)
I have been making self inserts in a lot of fandoms I enjoy, the most recent one being tadc of course. I love doing self inserts and shipping said self insert with characters I love/simp for, and as much as I want to I always avoid posting about the shipping part since it was a mistake I made years ago back when I was 9 (2019). I got d³@th threats over the self insert and the self shipping so it makes me scared to post or share anything related to it- but I genuinely don't see the issue with self inserts and self shipping (unless it's prø/cøm shipping, that's when I have an issue with it)
Oh my gosh.. I'm so sorry. You did not deserve that, especially at age NINE??? But I'm glad you still do self inserts, and self-ships! People can be so cruel.
@@BreDrawz It's fine no worries- well, not really but y'know- I just think it's sad that I'm not the only kid that had received threats over self inserts, some people are just that embarrassing honestly. Oh and off topic, but I absolutely love the Zooble art! They're my favorite but they're pretty hard for me to draw at times :D
Even if it's "weird" that's not an excuse to harass somebody it doesn't hurt anyone n people shouldn't use there uncomfortability as an excuse to do or say horrendous things to somebody and I don't even like self inserts
Genuinely what is wrong with proship? It's just not harassing people over fictional characters kissing im not even proship but the idea is not something any person with an Brain should be against I don't care if it's weird it's not illegal to like and ship a fictional and not an excuse to harass others
I don't have a problem with self insert ships as long as the person doesn't go too far with it and ruins the character, you didn't deserve the hate you got. You were just a kid having fun .
The hate towards it is why I support both OCs/self-inserts in fanart and OC x Canon ships since people seem to think it's fine to shame them as if it's somehow harmful. It may be cringe to some, but it's fun and harmless. If I had the motivation to draw more than 3 times max per year, I would be pestering people to give me their ref sheets and a show to draw them in. I wanted to do a project where I make one big drawing with a bunch of people's OCs in a One Piece setting, but then I remembered that _the art block would destroy me_ 😅 It's fine to dislike it or not even be able to stand it personally, but there's a difference between silently disliking something and constantly announcing it *_loudly._*
When I have a good thing with a fandom. I literally make a oc or a sona out of the fandom that I am in I don’t really mind about the oc /self inserts but tho form hate.i hope I don’t really be quitting or so but tho.its nice to watch this video while eating something
It’s honestly so sad how ppl let some rancid apples speak for the entire group. Also, I have quite a few self-inserts. I don’t know if you know about the cartoon Almost Naked Animals, but I have a self-insert named Ozzy, who’s a dog and he’s Narwhal’s (Narwhal is one of the characters that I really love) husband. He’s the lounge dancer. Also pls don’t assume I’m problematic cuz I use TikTok and enjoy it, and have posted art on it (sorry for this I’m just terrified of being accused of being a horrible human being)
Dudee I made a spidersona and I did post it in TikTok for fun, I didn’t get hate on tiktok but instead I got hate from an ex group of friends that found my tiktok and share it between them saying “how could I do this I don’t even have a full story and I’m not ALLOW to create a character bc I don’t have a story for them etc etc” also attacking my art when this people didn’t even do art. I do believe that maybe some self inserts can be cringy but it can be a way to just start creating stories. I started with cringy oc’s but it was fun at the time, and this also help me to be able to create characters with more debt and how to story build and also just create in general. People who strongly hate are people who are jealous of others creativity even if the person is barely starting out.
As an old person who’s teenage internet years were spent lurking 2010s DA and RUclips comments sections and refuses to touch tiktok (not just cause of the toxicity, that kinda short form content also just isn’t for my nerodivergent ass), hearing this from the outside it really seems like the current state of tiktok is just kinda repeating a lotta the problems I remember also seeing during the 2010 net All I need to say is As a fossil who is old enough to remember what “Mary-Sue points” are and also witness a whole lotta drama surrounding what was deemed as “cringey” at the time, I’ll say this to any of the youngins that it’s probably best to just not pay attention or give any of this your energy. Unless the person is actually willing to give you constructive critique and ya know…treat you like a human being, I can safely say a lotta this is just textbook bullying that hopefully these kids will mature from (at least I hope to god most the people partaking in this are kids, I mean doesn’t make it okay of course but again, I’m old and so I tend to be a lot more forgiving to the youngins) That being said that doesn’t mean I’m not disappointed to see this and a lotta other forms a “art bullying” come back on the rise with tiktok (especially with the fatphobia stuff like cmon), I do hope that this doesn’t turn out to be as bad as it was when I was on my early teens on the net since there is A LOT more awareness on how this kinda behavior just isn’t healthy. But maybe I’m just being naive who knows the net kinda tends to prefer extremes from my experience Anyways sorry for the poor grammar, I’m dyslexic so despite being in my 20s I tend to write like a 10 year old lmao, anyways kiddos take care, drink water, stay safe and remember to take time to practice your coping mechanisms cause believe me when I say that’ll help you a lot in the long run especially when you’re in your teens.
i have a silly self insert oc for genshin (started as copium for smth, but now i continue bc i have a lot of lore established around her) but stuff like this gets me super paranoid to post it online... also especially bc the one time i showed ship art of my oc x my fav/comfort char to someone it got used against me days later honestly, i wish people would just scroll if they dont like a self insert, its not that hard of a thing to do also, good luck on getting 10k subs! i just subscribed
me and my friend have practically an entire new group of ocs who are literally insert ocs, there are more insert ocd there than there are of the actual show we're inserting them into.
Adding my own opinion into the loop, in don’t see and adults shipping an oc with a child as a bad thing. I have a South Park OC who was shipped with Kenny because I just liked Kenny and his personality. It only goes to far when it leads to someone gets hurt.
This stuff is the reason why I, when I make OC-inserts for franchises and fandoms and stuff, I ship the OC with ANOTHER OC I’ve made (and put in that fandom too) so that no-one can make problems with me 😭
I was scrolling on Pinterest and someones Oc/self insert 'paige' for TD was getting so much hate in the comments 😭 like damn can girly not have a crush on duncan and get along with people expect heather (who would?). Honestly my own self inserts and oc's make me wanna cringe sometimes but its fun cringe y'know?
I loved Paige's self insert so much and I got so sad when they'd get hate whether it was for her self insert or shipping Gwen and Duncan, which is honestly a dumb thing to hate someone for...Paige was just having fun making a self insert and fan art for a show she enjoyed, its unsurprising and totally valid why she distanced herself from the Total Drama fandom its really toxic ☹️
Honestly I don't think that there will ever be one true reason why people do this shit because there's always multiple angles and reasoning and they are not going to stop anytime soon but the Hope out there for my Creator peeps is that there is a community out there for you that will support you as well. I'm in the mha community which admittedly doesn't have the best reputation but I found a place where I feel supported and I'm growing my following and I hope nothing more but for people who want that. It's hard not to worry about these type of people but sometimes you just have to forget they're there and do you it's so much easier to say I know but just remember that you are not here to impress them nothing you do has to fit in their eyes.
Thank you so much for this video! I actually didn't know about any of this and I was glad to be informed about it!! The art you drew in the video was amazing as well!! Personally, I don't usually like self inserts for a few reasons but I never really went on and hated on the creators. But other than that I'm not really against self inserts Overall, this video was very informative and really well made! I love how you cover just about everything professionally! I hope you will keep making content like this in the future! ALSO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PUTTING THE BRUSH CODE IN THE END NOT MANY PEOPLE DO THIS ❤❤❤
@@banarazz yeah i hadnt watched the new seasons at the time and just realized that now that im actually catching up after two years😞😞 (im keeping her for shits and giggles)
Bullying people for their interests is the true cringe whenever it comes to people just enjoying what they like. I have a lot of insecurities when it comes to enjoying my interests/hyperfixations (e.g feeling nervous about drawing fanart in public/school). Heck, it's so bad that I even get nervous about PURCHASING stuff related to it in a store. TikTok (and ESPECIALLY Twitter/X) really is just a trash heap when it comes to bullying/harassment in the art community. OC's/self inserts are just a fun way to enjoy an interest even more! Do what you want! Cringe culture is dead >:3
I think for the crushes on fictional kids part people that like… JUST turned 18 in the past month or so should be given a little bit of leeway. It took me a little bit when I freshly turned 18 to let go of my crush on Tanjiro Kamado from Demon Slayer. Obviously, I’m over it now, that was two years ago. But I can say from experience it takes a little bit of time to let go of that kind of attachment
Here is some tips for self inserts Can’t stand out to much Can be the strongest Should not date any main characters And that’s all I think need to be as rules for a good self insert
3:57 there was also a ‘‘joke’’ character in power puff girls that was put into romantic-ish situations with one and the main characters. THE MAIN CHARACTERS ARE KINDERGARTENERS
I JUST WANT TO SAY AGAIN TYSM FOR PUTTING MY ART IN YOUR VIDEO! I FREAKED OUT WHEN I SAW MY ART IN THIS!! Also,, ZOOBLE LOOKS SO GOOD SHES MY FAVORITE CHARACTER!! You draw so well I cantttt 😭😭💖💖
I used to be annoyed with self-insert ocs back when I was new to fandoms. I joined the self-insert hate bandwagon until I tried doing it by making a persona and it helped me realized my struggles and problems. I didn't have many characters I can relate to since I have a bit of a complicated personality, so making self-insert ocs was I think, a way to help me cope with how a little indifferent I am with other people.
i also dont like how tiktok hates on people who ship their self inserts with characters in canon (when it isnt illegal or something), it gets worse when people will brag about how much better their self insert is because they dont ship them with any characters in canon, we get it youre so special and quirky and different. (speaking as someone who has made 2 self inserts literally just to ship with canon characters because why not)
What do i call an oc whos kind of a self insert but not really?? Like its originally based off me, yes, since your own perspective is the easiest to understand in writing, but then i add or remove characteristics and traits and develop the character along the way to the point where its like still almost me but not really?? like you can still tell that i was the basis through their looks and (some) interests but were far from identical
This is so sad l feel bad for a lot of people who just want to have fun, as long as their art is appropriate, not copy writed, or claiming someones character is theirs, so on, and something they enjoy. For me I make monster/horror/creepypasta characters and I decided to come back to the fandom but with my own ocs because I wanted to give people characters they might see themselves in. I want to be like my ideal R. L. Stine who's books help and inspired me to make my own monster characters and maybe some survivor ocs. For me as an artist that's how I always felt, i always want help young artists to embrace their interests or make their own characters and be in what fandom they want to be in. For me I hate people who ruin the fun for that, it's like saying this famous artist hates this girl who might be seventeen years old making a Magic Girl character and seeing how cute and friendly art is getting popular while that said famous artist is not getting any popularity and decided to be cruel to the said young artist who just wanted to have fun, like what is wrong with you!? I do feel so sorry for all this artists it's not right at all. I do hope we have new artists who will stand up to this jerks and toxicity people and still have fun for that and not be ashamed at all.
the "it's fictional" excuse makes my skin boil. Don't you remember the effect Jaws had on sharks' reputation? The effect slenderman had on kids and even adults? but yeah- just fiction do whatever you wnat, as long as youre not hurting anyone, yourself included!
I remember making a fnaf oc not too long ago and they were an entire different family, and the only thing that they had to do with the pizzeria was just their dad gave it citations.
Even if it's "weird" that's not an excuse to harass somebody it doesn't hurt anyone n people shouldn't use there uncomfortability as an excuse to do or say horrendous things to somebody and I don't even like self inserts
I never said they should be harassed, even my caption states not to harass anyone mentioned. I *did* say that the hate the action as a whole gets (in my opinion) is deserved. It’s completely fine to hate something and to find it weird, as I’ve stated in many of my videos. The problem lies when, like you said, people harass others personally.
I actually made an oc for an anime I still secretly like and don't ship her with anyone due to her being seven.

Self-insert ocs are a great way to get into writing. You already have a world with lore to play with and all you gotta do is squeeze your character in there with everyone else and play by the world's rules. Then later on you can graduate to making your own lore, maybe even your own world.
Making ocs for fandoms are fun idc people are missing out

Tiktok is really is filled with people with little to no empathy. I saw a video where someone made a slideshow about someone passing away i think and placed a kid spiderman suit on what was left from a crushed building, the pictures said "anyone can wear the suit" and the only thing in the comments was about pastel spider and how we are ""glorifying obesity"" by not shaming the creator and the oc in every spider man releated video. i really dont get it. How doess that even make sense and how can anyone says such things in the first place? let alone under a video about someones death.
what the hell? that's actually horrible and sickening.
♥ oh my god. ♥
I think the video was even about a Palestinian child
I don’t get it
So when kids make self inserts or ocs for their favorite shows it’s wrong, but when a 30 year old ships themselves with a 5 year old people would say “it’s fiction”.
WHO THE FUCK SAID THAT WAS OKAY!?!? THAT’S RIGHT NOBODY!!!
The mental gymnastics are wild.
because.. it’s an adult.. aging theirself down to get with a little kid.. “pixels” or not, it’s weird.. what do you not get about that?
another problem with the tik tok art community is when fully grown adults make fun of LITERAL CHILDREN for drawing "bad" , you arent gonna be born a perfect artist, EVERY SINGLE ARTIST began somewhere and these kids just wanna share their art journey and thats fine yall need to chill
yes!! i hate it so much when i see it, and when you defend them, you're most likely going to get hated on too
Oh my god, this is so true.

Everytime I'm in a fandom my first instinct is to make a self insert OC even if I cant even draw any of them

Bro imagine hating on somebody because they put a self insert oc💀
Ocs self inserts or not are an amazing way to grow, be creative and get to know yourself
I hope people are aware that oc and self insert hate happened WAY before tiktok.
Weapon: Life Dagger
Description: a short blade that is from ones wrist to elbow in length and about two inches wide.
Attacks:
Slash: a quick and agile attack that strikes the opponent with the blade
Life seep: the blade is stabbed into the ground and will stay there for three turns stealing health from the opponent and restoring health to the party.
Pickpocket: grab a random item from the opponent’s bag
Sharpen: used for one turn, attack goes up for the next two turns
Deflect: protects a chosen party member and protects them from the upcoming attack
Safeguard:prevents selected party member from having their health drop to zero
There’s more but I’m too busy to lest them :)
You should do it! It’s SO much fun, and if you want, you don’t even have to post it :)) I get the fear, since people can be SO mean sometimes.
@@BreDrawz Tysm I will do it! Anyways u just earned a new sub 😊
wait til they find out that most characters are technically self inserts of the author's thoughts and opinions
istg this doesn't only happen on tiktok i see the same complaint from media reviewers ALL THE TIME especially the animation reviewers it's so aggravating!! characterization is my favorite part of writing and clearly none of them know how it works but act like they know all 😭
not saying all self inserts are portrayed well, but they ignore the fact that the characters are very much flawed in a way that it damages the other characters in the story but only bring up that they're a self insert. you can say they're a self insert, but PLEASE don't gloss over the very obvious destructiveness of a character and boil their entire personality down to just a "self insert"
These days people hate every little thing that exists
I can understand looking at someone sideways for liking a fictional kid, but allot of shows and franchises don’t age them up. Besides, personally, someone can draw all the C.N self-shipping they want or *more* as long as they:
1- don’t go full shad-art. You *never* go full shad-art
2- you’re not into IRL minors.
Only in those two examples will I start to squint my eyes in suspicion. Side-note, self-inserts and sonas are fun for me to make, as my brain often (out of my control) just… inserts me into whatever fiction I’m hyperfixating on. Sometimes my self-inserts become their own characters, often their just “me, but different-ish”
ngl cringe culture on yt made it worse for ppl to share oc x canon/oc content
I enjoy making self inserts/ocs as a whole, it can be a fun way to connect to what you make, and if you dont wanna read someones fanfiction or look at their fanart thats their business, personally, i like making ocs and rping with them but reading someones fanfiction about their character isn't for me
Also, on the whole aging down thing, i agree it can be creepy or weird to age yourself down to be their age, but what if its a character u grew up with who you still like?
In my opinion, in that situation I would probably age the entire cast up. Not make myself younger, rather make the cast my age.
I’ve actually been bullied for it before and had to delete the video I created. (The character was just friends with one of the characters, nothing creepy or anything really)
and there was a time when I was younger when I would make oc to be shipped with the characters which I don’t do as much but still do.
After seeing it happen so much I’ve chopped it all down to jealousy or uncomfort because either they want to have a fan base around their own characters and have their self-inserts be loved and can’t, or they hate seeing the ‘canon’ of a charge ‘broken’ by a non-canon character.
I'm so afraid of sharing my personal oc/self inserts out of friend groups because I have internalized cringephobia and most of them are cringe

As a channel with a MHA oc, i can confirm my oc is the type of person to joke about arson and then actaully be too afraid to break any rules.

I wanted to do a project where I make one big drawing with a bunch of people's OCs in a One Piece setting, but then I remembered that _the art block would destroy me_ 😅
It's fine to dislike it or not even be able to stand it personally, but there's a difference between silently disliking something and constantly announcing it *_loudly._*

Its fun and doesnt harms anyone.
As an old person who’s teenage internet years were spent lurking 2010s DA and RUclips comments sections and refuses to touch tiktok (not just cause of the toxicity, that kinda short form content also just isn’t for my nerodivergent ass), hearing this from the outside it really seems like the current state of tiktok is just kinda repeating a lotta the problems I remember also seeing during the 2010 net
All I need to say is
As a fossil who is old enough to remember what “Mary-Sue points” are and also witness a whole lotta drama surrounding what was deemed as “cringey” at the time, I’ll say this to any of the youngins that it’s probably best to just not pay attention or give any of this your energy. Unless the person is actually willing to give you constructive critique and ya know…treat you like a human being, I can safely say a lotta this is just textbook bullying that hopefully these kids will mature from (at least I hope to god most the people partaking in this are kids, I mean doesn’t make it okay of course but again, I’m old and so I tend to be a lot more forgiving to the youngins)
That being said that doesn’t mean I’m not disappointed to see this and a lotta other forms a “art bullying” come back on the rise with tiktok (especially with the fatphobia stuff like cmon), I do hope that this doesn’t turn out to be as bad as it was when I was on my early teens on the net since there is A LOT more awareness on how this kinda behavior just isn’t healthy. But maybe I’m just being naive who knows the net kinda tends to prefer extremes from my experience
Anyways sorry for the poor grammar, I’m dyslexic so despite being in my 20s I tend to write like a 10 year old lmao, anyways kiddos take care, drink water, stay safe and remember to take time to practice your coping mechanisms cause believe me when I say that’ll help you a lot in the long run especially when you’re in your teens.

also, good luck on getting 10k subs! i just subscribed
me and my friend have practically an entire new group of ocs who are literally insert ocs, there are more insert ocd there than there are of the actual show we're inserting them into.
I have dozens of fan characters that I’m too shy to put on public display. But, now I feel like that’s for the best, lol.
Personally I enjoy oc inserts because I like to see how the plot would change if their character was included :)
Thank you so much for this video! I actually didn't know about any of this and I was glad to be informed about it!! The art you drew in the video was amazing as well!!
Personally, I don't usually like self inserts for a few reasons but I never really went on and hated on the creators. But other than that I'm not really against self inserts
Overall, this video was very informative and really well made! I love how you cover just about everything professionally! I hope you will keep making content like this in the future!
ALSO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PUTTING THE BRUSH CODE IN THE END NOT MANY PEOPLE DO THIS ❤❤❤
i wish more ppl who aren't into self-inserts were like you
It made me giggle when I saw Lady Nagant in the thumbnail. She’s very much not an oc but she does happen to be iconic like that
@@banarazz yeah i hadnt watched the new seasons at the time and just realized that now that im actually catching up after two years😞😞 (im keeping her for shits and giggles)
the moment i hear self inserts i only think of darrel. that man haunts my nightmares.
I’m so sorry 😞
ZOOBLE :D
(btw I love your videos and I hope you reach your goal your extremely underrated and you deserve more :3)
YESS THEYRE SO UNDERRATED SO I JUST *HAD* TO DRAW THEM!! AND THANK YOU SOSOSOSO MUCH!!!
@@BreDrawz IKR I LOVE WHEN PEOPLE DRAW ZOOBLE SHE'S SUCH A COOL CHARACTER AND SHES SO UNDERRATED
TEHE HII FINNN!!!!!
Did you see my art in there?! >:d!! Im so happy teheheheh
Here is some tips for self inserts
Can’t stand out to much
Can be the strongest
Should not date any main characters
And that’s all I think need to be as rules for a good self insert
3:57 there was also a ‘‘joke’’ character in power puff girls that was put into romantic-ish situations with one and the main characters.
THE MAIN CHARACTERS ARE KINDERGARTENERS
OH YEAH! I heard about that in research for my video, and was debating on whether or not I should put that one in or Darrel’s
Making a self insert oc is a way to make me feel connected to the fandom, and also imagine some What Ifs
I JUST WANT TO SAY AGAIN TYSM FOR PUTTING MY ART IN YOUR VIDEO! I FREAKED OUT WHEN I SAW MY ART IN THIS!!
Also,, ZOOBLE LOOKS SO GOOD SHES MY FAVORITE CHARACTER!! You draw so well I cantttt 😭😭💖💖
OFC!! YOUR ART WAS AWESOME SAUCE AND IT MADE ME SO HAPPY TO SEE IT!! AND AGREED, ZOOBLE DESERVES MORE LOVE! AND TYSMMM!!!!
@@BreDrawz TY TY TY‼️ AND NP!!💖
(speaking as someone who has made 2 self inserts literally just to ship with canon characters because why not)
Put it this way
If you're getting hate then you must be doing something right
Unrelated to the video but Did you know that there’s a loud house fanfic that’s longer then the Bible
yeah i heard about that
This is why I don't wanna post my art in tiktok that much😭 I love ur videos sm they teach me about so many things I missed out on ahah
What do i call an oc whos kind of a self insert but not really?? Like its originally based off me, yes, since your own perspective is the easiest to understand in writing, but then i add or remove characteristics and traits and develop the character along the way to the point where its like still almost me but not really?? like you can still tell that i was the basis through their looks and (some) interests but were far from identical
you're an actual godsend for putting the brushcode
I’m fine with OC x canon ships until they start shipping their OC with everybody in the entire universe.
The effect slenderman had on kids and even adults? but yeah- just fiction
do whatever you wnat, as long as youre not hurting anyone, yourself included!
I personally don't mind ocs/self inserts, but I personally don't like it if the oc is a Mary Sue or Marty Stu, but I would criticize the person instead of saying "Omg! You're oc is cringe!"
I haven’t watched this video yet but I think people don’t hate them that much just bad toxic ones. But it’s gotten out of hand to to point that every self insert/oc
Exactly. The bad ones gave all inserts a bad reputation, which really fueled the hate. As well as TikTok being assholes to inserts that are conventionally attractive.
personally i don't care unless the oc/self insert are made just for something like dating a character. I'll just go 'eeeerrrr' then scroll-
