I actually did hesitate about watching it for a long time before doing it, I really thought it was just a sitcom about college students. I think that was a big factor for why it never became really popular.
ABSOLUTELY why I never really gave myself to check out this and many other great things until they were long over. Trailers and promos always seem to be made by people that intentionally misrepresent the actual product, and that's a legitimate crime.
Chevy Chase saying "You remind me of me at your age," is even funnier since several years later Joel McHale played Chevy Chase in the story of Doug Kinney's life.
The first few episodes and promos like these were probably why the show wasn't a prime time hit. I'd be interested in seeing what the later advertisements for the show looked like after it got established.
0:03 they used an emotional moment in the show as a funny moment for the ad. Plus the music makes it look cheesy as fuck. If these ads didn't suck so much Community wouldn't have flopped.
The show didn't really get too zany or weird until their Halloween or even their paintball episode so NBC was just working with what they had at the moment.
It's funny how this show turned out completely different from what was advertised.

@@illitero also the pilot didn’t do justice to what’s coming ahead
If I saw these ads before watching the show I may have never picked it up
A M E N
It is honestly fascinating how trailers muddy up pretty much every type of media. The formula is really dull.
The first 3 seasons we're the best

This show was ahead for his time
Streets ahead
More like streets ahead
Classic tee-up

Why does this look like it premiered in 1997
Whoever made this promo clearly needs to be fired
these promos reveal absolutely nothing about this show but they're just so 2009 that i love them anyways
Boy. Nbc were streets behind with these promos.
Nah
Stop trying to make "streets ahead" a thing! It's not a thing!

These promos just aren’t all that indicative of what the show actually is.
Me watching (most of) NBC's Thursday night lineup the year or 2 prior led me to Community but so did Matt and Kim's "Good Old Fashioned Nightmare".
It's amazing how the advertisement does not well describe the show at all lol
The 3rd promo is from the split screen credits to Days of our Lives
Any Matt and Kim fans out there? Kinda wild to have my two favorite things collide like this

Why does it feel it's on VHS
Probably a recorded tape
what's the name of the song in the ads
+Eri Pena "good ol' fashioned nightmare" -Mat and Kim
+Ben Warner Thank You!

These promos suck. No wonder I didn't watch the show until it was canceled

The ads sold me on the show. I was also 14 when it started

Is jeff the main character? I always thought they all were.
He was in Season 1.
