  • Short how-to video showing guitar tunings and fingerings used by James McMurtry. Hope these help other players learn some JM songs!
This video uses natural tuning and focuses on a particular set of chord changes James uses in a whole bunch of his songs. Here’s my full rendition of Lights of Cheyenne, which uses these changes:
    • Dave plays Lights of C...
Some songs James plays using these chord changes: You Got to Me, Crazy Wind, South Dakota, Rachel’s Song, Where’d you Hide the Body, Operation Nevermind, Be With Me, Blackberry Winter, Long Island Sound, Iolanthe, If It Don’t Bleed, Angeline, Bad Enough, How’m I Gonna Find You Now, State of the Union, Deaver’s Crossing, Holiday, Gone to the Y. Capo I: Lights of Cheyenne, Canola Fields. Capo II: Hurricane Party, Out Here in the Middle, You’d A Thought, Memorial Day. Capo III: Carlisle’s Haul, Access Road, Freeway View.
NOTE: There are many other tunes he plays in natural where he doesn’t build on those chords.
