    DSD encapsulates what DMC is from both story and gameplay perspectives. It has a low skill floor and a high skill ceiling, and it also acts as Dante’s equivalent to the Yamato with his summon swords

    I also love the lore of the weapon. Dante finally gets to use summoned swords like Vergil, but he uses it in a completely unique way that he likes which shows even more personality in the brothers. And the other thing I saw someone mention a while back, in sin devil trigger, when Dante uses his ultimate move judgement, the moves he uses are actually what we see from dmc1 with sparda in the first cutscene ever. Such a badass callback

  • @DestinySpider

    Dante's Conjured Swords > Vergil's Summoned Swords
    One could also mention that Quickdrive in DMC5 is both busted as shit and super fun to use.
    That move lets you just straight up initiate a juggle combo on an enemy that's like 80 feet removed from you, while barely taking a second to execute.
    Was cool that you brought on AlfredKS for some clips here. One of my favourite Dantes to watch period.
    And the video was again fantasically scripted and informative.
    Hope there will be some more casual players watching that feel encouraged to go back to 5 and experiment with some fancy DSD setups. It really is a joy to use, and very approachable

    • @theastroguy7417
      @theastroguy7417 Год назад +6

      both are equal. DSD’s are for combo extenders and extra hits and damage using them itself. SS is for giving you time with storm swords, quick auto bursts with blistering, a shield and extra damage with spiral swords and a ranged launch with the ones surrounding the enemy. its also kinda like how dante and vergil are. Vergil has fewer moves but each acts different and strong and can be used on their own and still be somewhat effective, dante has many that are strong, but are meant to connect into other moves with his conjured

    • @DestinySpider
      @DestinySpider Год назад +1

      @@theastroguy7417 the slowdown ones are called Heavy Rain Swords. Storm Swords are the ones that surround the enemy and launch them. Doesn't really matter tho
      For me Dante's are more fun by default purely on the basis of them being button taps.
      Vergil's directional 1 second holds I've never been a fan of. Even when remapping the button to L1 I've always found them awkward to use.
      Dante's conjured swords are more comfortable on my fingers, the teleport DSDesychs look sick as hell and are really fun to execute, and the formations following your melee attacks in DT, while a lot aren't anything too interesting, some lead to some unique possibilities and are fun to mess around with

      @user-gr1gb7os2t 8 месяцев назад

      @@theastroguy7417yup you idiot. Learn to accept facts first. Dante conjured swords are better than Vergil in every way. It can be used for attack, crowd control, defense, make your attacks stronger, projectiles, shit ton of combos, and is best for every situation. There is no situation where Dante conjured swords are not utilisable.
      Whereas Vergil summoned swords are mainly for attacks only and you can't even summon some of them them at your will. You can't use them for your defense etc.
      So Dante conjured swords = attack+defense+crowd control+ power+ projectile + making attack more stronger+ enhanced abilities + high combos potential.
      Whereas Vergil summoned swords= attack only + far lower combo potential ict dante.
      So yup Dante's is better in every single possible way. 😊

  • @RapidSilver
    @RapidSilver Год назад +26

    Calling back summoned swords with escort formation (which I'd like to refer as 'sword formation guard cancel') is one of the best thing with DSD for me.
    This allows you connect various summoned sword moves quickly, and adds significant depth to each summoned sword moves.

  • @vieris9893
    @vieris9893 Год назад +33

    I think another thing that bears mentioning is that chaser can persist after cancelling certain moves. This lets you do things like cancelling out of the last hit of aerial rave while retaining the knockback effect, allowing you to cancel the knockback with an E&I shot (something extremely difficult otherwise as the last hit of rave instantly puts the enemy on the ground); or cancelling out of turbulence creates a constant knockback area around Dante, letting you "carry" the enemy with sky star.

    • @DestinySpider
      @DestinySpider Год назад +3

      ^^^^^^^^
      Truuuue.
      The moves that this applies to aren't many iirc (I haven't gotten to play 5 in a year), but that was one thing that was pretty fun to experiment with. The second swing of DSD Combo B, and also Cerberus Combo D (?) you can trickster dash out of, meanwhile the formation will still continue to hit, so you can use that to run up an enemy's body with mustang if you have it juggled low enough to the ground.
      Really cool stuff

    Great video.
    Some details of Swords Formations that you might have missed/glossed over:
    - Reactor (like DT) only adds an extra dash to the forward dash; this is because the back and side dashes can't be followed by Mustang. The extra forward dashes can be fully redirected however.
    - Escort not only decreases damage and stagger, it also reduces the amount of DT used by normal blocks; however it doesn't defend Dante against status effects (stun, burn, freeze, shock) or grabs.
    - Interceptor functions like a melee attack when it comes to shields; meaning enemies like Hell Judecca or Lusacchia will get hit by them regardless of their shield. (Nero's Summoned Swords share this property.) Interceptor also attacks any non-continuous ranged attacks, regardless of whether they can be targeted or even destroyed; meaning it will automatically remove King Cerberus' plasma balls, Chaos and Green Empusa's poison spits, and even try to hit Goliath's fire balls.
    - Although Chaser does add some damage and it has a whole range of small and big effect changes on melee attacks (from allowing Cavaliere's ground combos to juggle to changing the properties of most combo finishers) one of its most important benefits is the style it adds to attacks. To give some examples, at SSS Million Stab will actually come out losing when it comes to style, whereas Chaser will let it come out winning; on the other hand Cerberus D, which is pretty much the best combo when it comes to pure style, will have its style gain pushed from B up to A when starting from E by the swords.
    - The cost for a pop of Swords Formation is just 2 DT pips. Combined with the fact they light slightly longer than DT with a full gauge, and DT requires at least 3 pips on top of an extra 1/2 upon deactivation, it makes it optimal for them to be used on the regular, specially if you want to spend your DT on the SDT bar.
    Edit: I forgot to mention that Swords Formation's timer is separate from DT, which means you can also go into DT to extend their time if you have enough gauge.

    • @DestinySpider
      @DestinySpider Год назад +1

      Damn. I had no clue interceptors could be used to negate the spit attacks. I only ever intentionally called them during the Vergil fight, Lusachia, and perfect Urizen. (Cerberus too, but there sky star fireworks will usually suffice)

This is something I have seen debated a lot in the community. I respect your answer that you wish it so, but I agree with Itsuno that it would have made him feel like Dante given part of the point of Nero was to give newer players a more accessible character. HEY , It’s yo Girl, back from the dead..
    The fact you respected Nevin’s mid ness has sold me on a Subscribe.
    The Bataur is only useful GENUINLY for Heaven and Hell move and some niche pin stalling in DMD mode.
    I respect how actually well poise’d and perspective your videos are 🙌

      I remember the lightning balls making for a really useful shield when fighting these annoyingass Enigmas. And they're useful against Bloodgoyles too cuz projectile attack.
      But yeah, Nevan is definitely more out there on a visual basis than it actually is interesting gameplay wise.
      Maybe my mind will change tho eventually when I can play modded DMC3 and actually take advantage of styleswitching and a full loadout.

      @@DestinySpider I definatly hope you enjoy the modded version! Cheers to a new experience of old times!
      it’s a useful weapon, it’s in NO means Bad it’s the fact it’s a middling weapon like Lucifer but lacking it’s utility In the same range, I’m speaking as if it’s a surplus to Artemis’ basically Dimension warping positional abilities or lucífer’s Pin/zoning stylization.
      Nevan is the easier to use and get results with weapon is all I really meant by Mid.
      It’s a great weapon still

    This only applies for normal and DT Dante's swords, but for SinDT swords they can still remain in one attack:
    The second attack of SinDT combo string will come out even if you change forms, with is weird because it only happens with this attack and Ombra, no other attacks have this property
    video showing the tech: ruclips.net/video/c614JPbe_oo/видео.html
    other interresting thing you can do is cancel in the right time the ``Long Barrel Air`` attack with SinDT and manipulate the knockback, but is a frame perfect thing and is kinda useless when you have Faust and DSD, but can look cool in a combo
    video showing this tech: ruclips.net/video/tGOegDfnEOQ/видео.html
    Just wanted to share some of my findings and contribute for the discussion
    Great video Chaser, keep the good work

    Also, do you switch controllers for DMC5 and DMC4?
    Im used to the Dual Sense and Dual Shock 4, but Ive heard most people saying Xbox Controller is better for DMC. Idk if thats a myth or real. Please let me know, thanks!

      Nevan as a weapon is honestly really solid. The problem is that, for a newcomer, it's gonna be hard to do air juggles with it.

    I like how their movelist reflects their personality as well. Vergil took a lot of time being the big brother to master summon swords, and they are precise, focused.
    Dante now awakened his devil arm and now his swords are reckless and spin like he does with wanton abandon.

    One of the biggest barriers to entry to adnvanced dmc play for me is DT usage. Every advanced guide has some combos that require DT usage weather it’s Nero’s or Dante’s summoned swords or showdown or maximum bet, etc. but I always find myself having a hard time plugging DT into my play because I’m afraid of wasting it, I feel choice paralysis in how to incorporate into my play. I don’t know how break out of that shell

    I think the variety of DMC weapons is amazing with what they can do, but I think including some kind of tutorials could go a super long way. The issue with the crazier weapons like Lucifer or DSD is that most players from causal to intermediate, aren't too sure how to fully optimize the weapons unless they go on RUclips and watch guides for it. I love weapons having so much depth, but when they aren't taught to the player in a good manner, they become trash for the regular player and a super good tool for good players. It creates a huge disconnect.

    • @DestinySpider
      @DestinySpider Год назад +1

      I think this applies to Lucifer a lot more than for DSD.
      Because Lucifer's intended use in combat I still don't think I really ever figured out. Pin-spam can be really strong, but it doesn't feel particularly... It doesn't really give me the impression that I'm supposed to be sitting there going "Hell yeah, I'm so good".
      The things Lucifer is good for combo purpose wise (primarily splash JC and Ecstasy) are difficult to implement and take a longass time to master.
      Meanwhile DSD at a basic level is just a Rebellion which controls more like Red Queen (something which a ton of people who don't like Rave being on swordmaster (or just never knew how to air combo with Dante) asked for), and if you don't care about the conjured swords' specific properties you can just mash them out for more damage without thinking about it too much.
      The way it buffs DT, as said in the video, is by covering the weaknesses of a lot of moves, like the swords spiraling around you to protect you during Dante's heat up dance. Or the vacuum into Real Impact. So that way you gain a ton of benefit from them automatically.
      And also Round Trips is there as a great way to just deal a ton of extra damage, if you don't really wanna bother learning how to mess around with the other formations in an interesting way.
      So there's a ton of easily accessible practical use you get out of DSD that's just not there with Lucifer
