- Here's a demo of a bunch of Tesla pickups humbuckers. Played head to head, in both bridge, neck and middle positions, as well as with some improvisations towards the end.
The Pickups ranges from PAF-type outputs all the way up to steel-melting :D
Great sounding pups all around, and here's the list of them:
Opus-1 (set bridge & neck)
VR-60 Classic (set bridge & neck)
Plasma X-1 (set bridge & neck)
VR-Extreme (bridge)
Plasma 3 (bridge)

Recorded at Garageland Studios Umeå, Sweden with Richard Lundmark and Ronnie Björnström of Enhanced Audio Productions.
Happy happy Tesla user since 10 yrs ago.........My Les Paul Custom is fitted with a pair of Opus 1 pickups, and my "LA studio" strat with an active set of AS2/AS2/AH3 . Couldn't be happier. I've had almost each Tesla pickup ..VR3 (very nice & clean), VR Extreme, VR Nitro, Plasma 7, FH1, AH1 set, etc.........great comparison video, very professional !!
The sound quality is PERFECT! Greate recording!

There is indeed two takes, hard panned L & R on all the clips.
However, we can't all be as tight as Ola Englund with these things :P

Great sounding pickups, my personal faves are the Opus 1 set, and the Plasma 3 bridge (very cool indeed!). I have the same guitar so I was very interested to hear what the different types of pickups sound like, but Richard, your jaw dropping playing steals the show!

Great video! Tesla gets overlooked because it not a big name brand. I had a set of the vr extreme and they sounded better than my hot rodded seymour duncan set.

This demo has led me to buy the Vintage Rock series (VR), even the VR-2 and VR-3 is hot enough for rock and metal, you might tell how the hotter ones like VR-Nitro, Extreme, or VR 60. They sound crispier with ash or basswood and maple though...

I'm very surprised to see people liking the VR-60 since it lacked both bottom and sparkle. Not very useful to toneshape like that already from the pickups. That made VR-60 easily the worst of the bunch in versatility. (Maybe it was the covers fault?) The Opus-1 set was brilliant, both bridge and neck. Clean it was best too. But at 04:54 when downtuned the best crunch tight bottom and sparkle on top was with the VR-Extreme. I would go with VR-Extreme bridge, Opus-1 neck if playing downtuned.
Is it just me or the audio playing is different, I could tell the playing is just slightly different between L and R pan.
Pls suggest a pair of humbuckers and one single coil pickup suited for a versatile playing/different genres...for neck and bridge positions
For me best sound at high gain (bridge) is with opus 1 pickup. And which is better for you?

Does the vr-nitro they tested? I'm in the vr-nitro and the opus-1 which would you recommend? greetings!
Hey I was thinking of getting a Tesla pickup for metal, possibly something which is a match for or better than a Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion. What would you recommend?
what was the EQ on the head, each one sounds pretty fat?
Is it me or you overdubbed the guitars? Like two audio clips at the same time, playing the same thing.

No song, just random riffs I came up with for the demo. The riff is definitely in the "AC/DC-style" of riffs though

wow they all sound the same
sector yeah, goes to show... when in a mix, or even through a mic’ed amp through monitors or front of house, the difference between pickups (or to some extent even guitars), are way less than you might imagine. Sure, standing in the room in front of an amp, you do hear differences, but after the whole chain, the differences might be more in perceived gain-levels than much else (at least when talking pickups with the same construction).
How could you make such test with such gain i do not understand we ear nothing ??
It's not like this to test a pickup first we want to ear it at clean sound. And second with some little crunch. And after with disto.

I’m not sure if you watched the whole demo or not. But we did clips for all pickups with medium and high gain and at the end clean clips.

When we go to buy a guitar in a shop we always start with clean tone. It's the best way at first to listen well all the frequencies.
I'm sorry because I was too upset and i have cuted in the midle of the video it was too long and i was rhinking it will be all rhe same. It was borring me too much.
I really think you should think on what i told you because i many musicians won't see all and could do the same. They think same as me i'm not unique we are use to do like this most of us.

@@renmad0078 well, I think might be different there. I always start with gain as that is more important than clean for me, but to each his own as always :) as for the length, there were many pickups to go through so it was a bit long therefor. Not sure if you noticed, but there are time stamps added in the description that makes it easy to jump back and forth between the different segments of the video.
