Alocasia zebrina care and propagation (with updates)

  • The Alocasia zebrina is one of the most popular alocasias endemic to the Philippines. It is loved for its “zebra” patterned petiole. This plant is not the easiest to care for especially for beginners. In this video I share the care tips and propagate into a few plants with updates at the end of the video as usual.

Please stop apologizing! It’s actually really helpful to see plants that aren’t pristine and see what went wrong and how to fix it. I love your content because of that.

It's a culture thing, some of us have grown up where it is important to show you care about others by apologizing. Hard to explain, but basically that's it, showing respect and humbleness.

I've been watching your videos for two weeks now and I really enjoy watching. It's very informative and you show the results of your propagations. Your videos really helped me a lot how to care for my new plants. I'm Nathan and I'm from Philippines and my Zebrina really like fast draining soil. I water my Zebrina everyday sometimes I even water twice a day depending how hot the day was. I always cut the leaf when it starts to yellow. When propagating alocasia I prefer waiting them to have babies I can't cut my alocasia I don't have the courage. Thanks for another helpful video. 😊😊

Wont that rot the roots? I am kinda confused and hope that you can help me out. Thanks again!

The leaves of the plant immediately died when I took it home so I unpotted it yesterday, and left the corm and root sitting in distilled water. So now I know to cut the leaves off and plant the corm in an orchid mix potting soil, right?

Oh yes they should have roots… its probably root rot from overwatering or dried out completely?
One way you can revive it is to try water propagation, or put the plant in sterile media like perlite or moss, and then cover the entire plant in a clear bag/container to prevent moisture loss from the leaves.

  • @warrenapepuffet4612

If its forest floor mix, safe to keep lightly moist. But most people have this grown in a more conventional potting mix and the most common way they were killed is by overwatering 🥲
