Hello.
I would like to learn (more) how to make parts-sketch thru assembly. I need it for 3D printing multiple parts.
..if I would create parts individually it would take a lot of time. ...trial and error, to make parts line up.
If u know what I mean.
well, in that case, I suggest you to create all the components in the PART mode indeed. You dont necessarily need to do it in the assembly mode, because it could get messy, trust me. with all the other components there, you view will be compromise. I have a video on my channel about creating multiple bodies in the part mode. Watch it. that is how I do it and highly recommend it. enjoy

Really good video. Easy to follow and informative. Been trying to make the mate between the two gears. I can't seem to find the two circumference sketches when I try to make the mate.
The sketch is hidden! you should open the gears in the PART section and then on property manager on the left side of the screen you will see the sketch. click on it once and then click on SHOW in the pop up menu. Welcome to SolidWorks tutorials Andrew. I am glad the tutorial was helpful to you.
I think I might have figured it out. I found the Boss-Extrude from each gear and unselected hide. I was able to make it work somewhat but the gear teeth do no stay in sync so I must not have selected arcs with the correct circumference.
that's right. If I remember correctly it would be the second circle. the one in the middle.
Quick comment: you can only select the "arc" circumference graphically after you "show" it (per comment) it. You cannot select the "arc" from the "Feature Manager Design Tree"... This stumped me for a while.. I'm using SW2018

Can you do a tutorial on adding dimensions to a solidworks assembly please? It is a pain to figure out
what kind of dimensions? you do dimensions when you are modeling a part. in the assembly you are only putting them together. the only dimension you can do in assembly is DimXpert. I dont have a video on that but just search for DimXpert in SolidWorks and you will know what to do exactly

They are hidden, first you need to left click on their sketch (when you are in the part mode not assembly for each of those gears) and click on the EYE icon and make the sketch SHOWN. then you can select them
