I bought this player recently in AU... It has far fewer pre-installed apps than the ones shown on this video. And there seems to be no way of adding/downloading additional APPS. Also the Web browser does not work (starting it yields a "not enough memory error") which means that it's not possible to log on to streaming services that do no have a pre-installed app. It's a nice little unit, as long as all you want to do with it is watch Blue-Rays and DVDs and streaming services with the very few pre-installed Apps - NetFlix and RUclips but that's about it for the big ones. Kind of makes the WiFi and network capabilities redundant. Sony after sales service and support sucks - ye be warned...
No basically this player is ass.. They removed Hulu about a year ago they're probably gearing up to release their own streaming service. But Sony is all about exclusive deals which is why they fuck themselves everytime.. Yes i have this trash and came here looking for the same thing
My Samsung Blue Ray player doesn't have RUclips app installed or even the ability to download the app. Is there a hack around this. Can I load into player from thumb drive?
Maybe try to do a factory reset. You press the home button on the remote go to settings and use the down arrow to select reset to factory default settings. If that works you would probably be prompted to install any updates that have occurred since if its connected to the internet.

Mate, thats about 30apps more than me, here in Australia. 🙄. I can't play, google play movies via RUclips app. Always freezes on the end of the "lionsgate" "universal" or whoever, intro to the movie yet if you fast forward to the actual movie........it plays for 40 mins then freezes again. Says "loading". Any ideas mate???? I reset the unit, wired it directly & updated but same drama.
Had this for a month and now all I get is a black screen after the blue-ray logo appears. Tried un-plugging it and re-plugging it to no avail. When I re-plug it, the green light goes on the power indicator, shows the Blue-Ray logo, shows the menu screen for a second, and goes to black. We were only using this for Blue-Ray, RUclips, and Pandora. We were really enjoying this product until now. Going to have to return it and hopefully get another one that will work properly and last longer if expected.

+eTechTom : Thanks Tom for the 411. I pulled this info on Sonys website hoping it would resolve the issue and tried all troubleshooting steps in order. Unfortunately, I still get the same issue ( Black screen ). I did a few times get the main menu and tested a few apps like youtube and pandora. They worked as they should. But when I tried to access the blue-ray, the door would not open even after trying some of the recommended steps. When I manually opened the door ( unplug the unit, waited 1 minute to 5 minutes at times, re-pluged the unit while keeping the stop/eject button down, the door would open and the dvd plate would retract back into its slot into the unit, causing the main menu to freeze up ). Theres also an issue with the child proof feature of the door not opening up even after I did the recommended steps ( press stop button, press home button, and then press the top menu button ). This allows you to disable the child proof feature; which should open the door to access the blue-ray tray. Unfortunately, this did not work as well. It just kept prompting me to do the same steps over.
I'm convinced that someone out there has created a custom firmware update that allows you to install Linux, and by extension, run Hulu on the damned thing again. If anybody knows how, or knows someone who does, I would greatly appreciate if you'd share the knowledge.
You can't install apps independently. When you turn the Blue-ray player on it goes to a Sony Server to install apps that Sony has agreed to provide and that is all that is available.
All the apps disappeared from the screen. I have been using the BRP for two years. First time this happened. Right before the apps disappeared, I tried to click on RUclips but an alert appeared saying that the app was too large. Then blank. I get nothing. I put a disc in the player, nothing showed up on the screen but the video started when I pressed the forward arrow button (play?) I shut the device off including the TV but nothing. Any way I can get into the settings or something?
It's very hard to find working model. It might take to replace over a dozen of units by warranty to find one working. Please note streaming and casting functions aren't functional at all.

+jr owen The registration process says you need the DualShock4 controller which I do not have so I did not register. It's a little confusing because the Sony Player info on Amazon shows a wired controller connected to the front usb port on the player but says you have access to PS3 streaming games by using a DualShock4 controller. I don't think there is a spotify app.
Just got this for Christmas, and was disappointed to see that, although the product description on both Best Buy and Amazon claim that it has access to "more than 300 streaming apps", there are less than 130 in the All App list (mine being just like yours above) - any idea where/how you can get the other claimed 170+ apps or did we get hosed?
+aakulow I just realized that claim yesterday too, while researching about apps for this player. I questioned whether there were more than 300 and was going to count them today. Maybe they are counting the games you can play with the playstation app? That shouldn't need interpretation though. There should be more than 300 as advertised.
There is another icon that has a play button in the top left corner with a circle of dots around it and lower center it looks like a document with a pen in the my apps section and that is to activate advanced features. I can't remember if that is what I did. Have you ever used the activate advanced features app? To narrow it down it should be in the others category.

Sony decides which apps are available on the player. When you do an update all the apps that are available will appear and you can delete the ones you don't want or create a favorites folder. I think the stan app is only available for ios devices
I gave this to my BF, he finally set it up. We watched a blu ray, and it was all great. But when we tried using netflix, we clicked the app and it turned into a black screen. We tried the other apps and same thing. We tried going to the set up at the top right and it turned into a blue screen. I'm not too tech savy, I don't know what to do. HELP?

At the top right select all apps and it is in the list of apps all the way to the right on mine. You can then select it and add it to the my apps folder.
Maybe your just missed it because there are a lot of apps showing. Try going to all apps and at the top select the player functions category. Mine has 5 icons in that category including the www browser app.
You can't add apps of your choosing. The apps that are available for the players are made available by Sony. If they decide to add a Comcast or google app it will then become available when you update the app list.
I wish when I purchased this nightmare a year ago I would have known that you dont get all the channels that you get on roku ....DONT understand sony at all ...YOU dont even get the HBO channel with this box .....however if you want HBO you can use your PRIME membership with Amazon if you have one to run HBO FOR A FEE....( on my Roku the HBO IS FREE because I have a direct tv acct with HBO but that counts for nothing with sony and this box.) I have two and they both work great. I'm running WiFi on an Xfinity X1 modem - router which is an improvement over the older cable modems. the picture clears up after a few seconds with streaming video but I think that could be better if I slap another RT-AC87R on the modem. I use the free software Sony offers called Media Go for music photos and ripped DVDs for a personal network library of movies. Pretty cool to watch Straight Outta Compton on my TV or device

i hate this bluray player. it keeps dropping the wifi every time i try to watch netflix or amazon. i can watch for about 5 minutes then it goes back to the home page. i checked with my internet provider and with amazon and netflix and everything is alright on their end.
+UKcat The only thing I can think of is check the signal strength of your router, make sure you have the latest firmware and there is always the chance of the HDMI cable being intermittent unless it only drops video while using wifi.
No. Applications cannot be manually added or removed by the viewer. The channels are modified automatically over time as programming changes allow. Individual apps and the video, photos or movies provided in an app are added and removed automatically by Sony and the content providers. Unless Sony and SlingTv sign some agreement in the future to provide that app but for now it is not available.
The apps apps are fixed by Sony. I think there use to be a Facebook app but it was discontinued. The only alternative is to use the browser and go to facebook and log on using the remote.

First update your software by using the arrows on the remote to navigate to setup at the top right hand corner then select update software. You will also have to connect the player to a wireless or wired network. After you have updated you then select the options button on the remote and select update list.

Sony TV's and smart devices like tablets have something called the dash and I searched that and there is no Spotify app there either. The Sony Playstation has Spotify though. A couple of months ago I emailed Spotify and recommended they add their app to the Sony blu ray player. They said they would forward that suggestion to their engineering team. They would have to contract with Sony to get that added if Sony was interested in adding it.

+Martin Juarez Sony downloads all the apps available automatically. You can only delete the apps that you do not want to make navigating through them easier. You can also create a my apps folder for your favorite apps. But what you see is what you get if everything is up to date.
1. On the supplied IR remote control, press the HOME button. 2. On the My Apps section, highlight the app you want to remove. 3. Press the OPTIONS button. 4. Select Remove Application to remove the app. 5. Select OK.
NOTE: If you are going to make a RUclips video get a pad of paper, pencil and write down the main points you are going to cover. Review the equipment before you write down your points, write down what you want to cover, then make the video instead of stumbling through the video. Video was a waste of time.

I just got my Sony S3700 Blu Ray player. I did the setup and did the software upgrade. When I went to my apps Hulu was not listed.

I just resolved the problem. I hit the on/off button on the setup box instead of using the remote. Got the screen with my apps back up.

How did you get PlayStation Vue on your device? I have the bdp-s3700, and I can't find the app anywhere. Not even in the Opera TV app store.
Try pressing the options button on the remote and then select update list. If you don't see it then it might not be available.

I wish when I purchased this nightmare a year ago I would have known that you dont get all the channels that you get on roku ....DONT understand sony at all ...YOU dont even get the HBO channel with this box .....however if you want HBO you can use your PRIME membership with Amazon if you have one to run HBO FOR A FEE....( on my Roku the HBO IS FREE because I have a direct tv acct with HBO but that counts for nothing with sony and this box.) ALSO WHERE IN THE WORLD IS THE ESPN CHANNEL....INSTEAD OF LISTING WHAT CHANNELS YOU GET THEY (sony) should list what you dont.
I have two and they both work great. I'm running WiFi on an Xfinity X1 modem - router which is an improvement over the older cable modems. the picture clears up after a few seconds with streaming video but I think that could be better if I slap another RT-AC87R on the modem. I use the free software Sony offers called Media Go for music photos and ripped DVDs for a personal network library of movies. Pretty cool to watch Straight Outta Compton on my TV or device
Sony player Hulu app Hulu is offering HBO for trial. For $5 a month so I purchased HBO but I cannot get HBO on the Hulu app on the DVD player get it fine on my cell phone I don't get it

i hate this bluray player. it keeps dropping the wifi every time i try to watch netflix or amazon. i can watch for about 5 minutes then it goes back to the home page. i checked with my internet provider and with amazon and netflix and everything is alright on their end.
+UKcat The only thing I can think of is check the signal strength of your router, make sure you have the latest firmware and there is always the chance of the HDMI cable being intermittent unless it only drops video while using wifi.

Does it have the SlingTv app on there?
No. Applications cannot be manually added or removed by the viewer. The channels are modified automatically over time as programming changes allow. Individual apps and the video, photos or movies provided in an app are added and removed automatically by Sony and the content providers. Unless Sony and SlingTv sign some agreement in the future to provide that app but for now it is not available.
I am trying to find facebook or a way to add it. Is this possible?
The apps apps are fixed by Sony. I think there use to be a Facebook app but it was discontinued. The only alternative is to use the browser and go to facebook and log on using the remote.

+Gwyneth Payne There is no app store for this player. All the apps that are available are shown under all apps. If in the future Sony decides to add other apps they will be downloaded during an update.

How to get all these apps?
First update your software by using the arrows on the remote to navigate to setup at the top right hand corner then select update software. You will also have to connect the player to a wireless or wired network. After you have updated you then select the options button on the remote and select update list.
Does it come with Spotify app?
+Rogelio Monter No it does not have Spotify. The apps are determined by Sony. You can not add apps on the blu ray player. Sony TV's and smart devices like tablets have something called the dash and I searched that and there is no Spotify app there either. The Sony Playstation has Spotify though. A couple of months ago I emailed Spotify and recommended they add their app to the Sony blu ray player. They said they would forward that suggestion to their engineering team. They would have to contract with Sony to get that added if Sony was interested in adding it.

+Martin Juarez Sony downloads all the apps available automatically. You can only delete the apps that you do not want to make navigating through them easier. You can also create a my apps folder for your favorite apps. But what you see is what you get if everything is up to date.
