    Thanks Jenn for all your research on this. I didn’t know about Wednesdays as the best day to shop. My tip is to try to buy generic on the majority of items and the money I save allows me to buy the few items that I won’t buy generic (Kraft Mac and Cheese). I had recent sticker shock when I went to buy chips and salsa . Holy moly! The small bag of Tostitos chips that used to be $2.99 is now $5.99. Same with the salsa. I found the generic salsa and a cheaper brand chip but those prices were an eye opener!

    My easy organic tip that I use if you are going to eat the skin then chose organic. Obviously you don’t eat the skin of an avocado so clean! Totally agree with you on grocery pickup!

    • @jens7898
      @jens7898 6 месяцев назад

      Regardless if you eat the skin....pesticides saturate produce. Also if it is bioengineered aka GMO the seed is literal poison (glyphosate). Organic is the only healthy option.

    We started grocery pick up when I had partial knee replacement surgery in February 2021. My husband had to do the grocery shopping when I had rotator cuff surgery in February 2016. He absolutely hates the grocery store p, so he decided on starting pick up after my knee surgery. I still do it for most everything but produce and meat. I’ve been to Aldi once or twice, I guess I need to give them another try.

    I live in Scotland and honestly didn't know there is an Aldi in the US 😲 I shop in Aldi, however a lot of shops here have the section "aldi price match" which is also great! I am lucky enough to have Aldi in my neighborhood.
    I make my own stock. I buy chicken and cook it slow for an hour or 2 and after use the meat in the soup or adding to the salad etc. I also got a dog and I sometimes share the chicken with her. It's honestly cheap and healthy!

    Hey Jenn👋🏽 I’ve been doing the pantry challenge for a few weeks also. I’m doing most of the things on your list. I’ve been buying in bulk since my 7 children were young and living at home. I still buy some household products in bulk. I freeze half my fruit, mushrooms, celery, peppers, cheese, and spinach. When you freeze mushrooms cook them in their frozen state because they become mushy if you defrost them. That really go for all produce. I also buy store brand only.

    • @2SisterBees
      @2SisterBees  9 месяцев назад +1

      I am going to retry the mushrooms!

  • @oylene
    @oylene 9 месяцев назад +2

    Hey Jenn! Seeing you say you can’t freeze mushrooms has given me a small chuckle because my mom has been freezing them for so long now! What she does is she dices them, puts them in separate bags for one portion each and she uses them for sauces or side dishes, this way they don’t lose flavor and the consistency stays about the same

    • @2SisterBees
      @2SisterBees  9 месяцев назад +1

      I think what I was doing wrong is letting them thaw all the way out.
      Did your mom just throw them frozen into the dish? I think that’s what I did wrong.

    • @oylene
      @oylene 9 месяцев назад

      @@2SisterBees if they are pre-cut or diced there is no need to thaw them, but if you have whole you can boil them for under a minute instead of letting them thaw at temp level, that should help with the texture I think 🤗

    I’m sort of piggy backing on the store app and making it a hybrid with the list. If I run out of something between grocery runs I add it to my cart on the store app. When grocery day comes around I have a “list” on the app and I can usually scan products into my cart or remove them once I’m at the store. Also, once in store my app tells me what aisle the item is on.

  • @nettielange3276

    I'm going to try putting a list on the fridge and encourage the family to keep adding to it.
    My idea - shop and cook in season. instead of paying big $ for something that isn't available easily wait until it is in season and enjoy it, freeze it, preserve it.

    Good info. Yes, some prices are way out of line with inflation. Many of the things I buy are 150% more than they used to be. Also, things like not having sales on items I used to stock up on. I am a firm believer that grocery pick up is not a good idea for anyone able to shop. There are so many hidden costs and no real data that shoppers actually spend less. I would suspect if people actually spent less, stores would not offer it as they certainly are not going to do things to encourage people to spend less. I wonder about asking for the reduction on almost expired items as sometimes that is all that is left. I might try that.

    DIgital coupons are awesome. Kroger and/or Ralphs has them. Great video. Love how you are mixing it up with your content lately. Also, I have used cash back credit cards to get rewards. I pay it off in full as soon as it hits the balance. No interest ever and I've made over $200 in cash back since March. Gas, groceries, Amazon, etc. I also pay utils via my cash back card. When I can. Some of them charge a fee. Responsible credit card users need only apply. 🙂 I use them for their cash back. It's money I have budgeted and saved anyway.

Also with fred myer they are the only store that doesn't up charge the prices for pick up. What you see in price at the store will be the same as online. Its free pick up afte 35 bucks. Only cons i have found is they no longer give you a printed receipt so you can't use fetch unless you print your own receipt. I will never buy anything but Rao’s. I will pay that price because it is that good and it’s a healthy for ya, low in sugar.
    I do, otherwise buy generic items - except for soup. It’s gotta be Campbell’s.

      Yes! There are always those specific items that just have to be name brand. Most spag sauces give us heartburn, Raos does not.
      However, I did find a good organic brand that is really good and half the price. Still on the more expensive side at $5 but…. Not getting heartburn is worth every penny! 🤣

    I spend too much. I’m starting to think I’ll be going more vegetarian. I spend too much on meat and fish.

      I like eating mostly vegetarian. I feel better when I do, for sure.
      And yes, it cut the grocery bill significantly!
      And it’s easier - in general. Cleanup is easier, no worry about cross contamination.
      It’s definitely worth a try! 🙌

    ALDI is not a U.S. company. Please stick to your mom & pops and at the very least U.S. based companies.

      I appreciate what you are saying however, some people are just trying to survive and have food. Aldi prices are just unbeatable. My oldest daughter has told me that if Aldi didn’t exist, she doesn’t know how she would stay in her grocery budget. Everyone’s priorities are different. 💛

      @@2SisterBees Yes it's a sad state of affairs. All by design. But if the American people don't stand by some principals there will come a day when options will be very slim. Beast system rising.

      It may not be a US company, but they treat their employees better than any US company I have seen and they have a better business model. Just because a store is "US Owned" or "mom and pop" doesn't mean it's good.
