Both people should follow the heart -- GF goes overseas and BF goes to Florida for the job. Time will tell if the relationship survives. That's the easy part. Would have been good to hear Dave's advice for investing the inheritance and upcoming salary.

Take the inheritance totally, 100% off the table in the decision and make the decision purely based on starting your career vs living abroad. Maybe living abroad will be a wonderful experience. In computer science, you could most definitely get a job in a year after coming back WHILE supporting yourself abroad.
Decide if you’re going or not, then if you go, figure out the inheritance plan after you get back.
And honestly, he can easily get an ok CS job that allows international remote. So no biggie there, unless this Florida job is something remarkable.
It didn’t seem from his conversation she was interested in his money, but at 21, he needs work experience. He can still find ways to travel & see the world. Needs to save & invest his money. He can take a planned sabatical later.

Don’t move overseas. Don’t waste your money.
Pay off debt. Invest every penny of your inheritance. Drive a 6 year old used car. Get a very modest and paid off started home if possible… smallest home in neighborhood that can later become a rental after you move in ten years. Take the job.
Let her leave and do not let this chick trap you, rush marriage or get you hooked for child support.
She’s easily replaceable and shouldn’t be directing your life whatsoever.

Not sure why everyone is dragging the girlfriend...The inheritance was just brought up to show he's not some broke college student and he has that financial security. He never indicated that he's worried about how the inheritance affects their relationship or that she was trying to get a piece of it. And he did say he was interested in going abroad, so it's not like the gf is trying to drag him over there against his will. I can understand his hesitation and the security of the job offer but why let fear make the decision for him? He should at least look into what opportunities he can find overseas with the computer science degree, I'm sure there's plenty. And going overseas doesn't mean he's gonna blow his 500K inheritance either, he can make a budget and stick to it over there just as well as he can in the states. Plenty of people do it with much less of a safety net and I suspect the experience would give him great new perspectives and life lessons that he won't necessarily get by "playing it safe" in Florida...Just my two cents but man, I've never heard anyone regret taking opportunities to travel and he is in a great position to make it happen.
