Thank you… I normally fix all the micro electronics in our family and extended family. There is no way in hell I’m touching this one….lol Thanks again for the video.
Thanks for posting this. Well done video, technically and hats off to the editor, producer, gaffers and of course the focus puller. Did I mention the best boy. Lol
I have an iPad mini 2. I’ve been having problems charging it. it seems the charging port might be loose . I have set the charger cord against something hard just have it propped up and it would charge or put the cord at an angle now it’s not wanting to charge. Do you has any suggestions. I bought a new charger port but I’m afraid I would mess it up worse it I tried to do it myself. Thank you margie
Did just replace the charging port on my iPad Air after watching this. Now it charges again. I used a knife and just carefully cut some marks around the port connection to make the alignment of the soldering connector easy. Make sure to use a knife as well to "cut/scrape" between all the solderings to make sure there are no contact between them. Thanks :)
A few questions if you don't mind please. What temps are you using on the hot gun and also on the soldering iron? Any specific brand flux that like using? Lastly, how strong is the connection? I've done this before on the iPad Mini but the soldering connection is always so weak even though it seems like everything is soldered on there pretty good. I use a microscope when doing my work too. Great video BTW! It's about time someone shared on how to do this.
Hi Jimmy. I wish that I could give you an exact number but using a Kada 925D+ I'm going to say that setting the air to about 6 should be sufficient. The soldering iron was set to 350 F but he moved very quickly across the connections.
I am happy i found this video :) common sense and lots of time just taking your time = susses , if at any point your frustration level rises a point of a degree , just take a note of what point your at , and kill a dragon , and come back to it :)
I can probably do everything except solder it on. I have tried replacing hdmi ports in the past. The pros make it seems easy. I don't know if it's the type of solder that makes the difference. I can't get my solder to melt quick enough to now destroy the plates. I would think instead of the iron, align the pins and then use the head gun to melt the solder on.
I'm a Maintenance Engineer for a TV station and been in Electronics for 52 years. Is it okay to use a shrink tubing heat gun (extremely hot gun). Or a regular hair heat dryer? I notice you are using a shrink tubing gun.
I slowly took apart my ipad Pro 4th generation and replaced the charging port just like you have done here and now it will not charge at all. I am so frustrated. I work on this daily because I am an illustrator and now I am left with a brick of an ipad pro. I will say that before I replaced the port the old port was all messed up but would charge if at an angle or jiggled around, now nothing charges it. If anyone has any advice I would love to hear it and would appreciate any help! It's only 2 years old so this is extremely frustrating.
Good job well demonstrated except for the detailed views of the ribbon connector of the charging. Honestly, given the micro-soldering skills required to for this repair, anyone who might attempt this repair that if detailed views are required, YOU AREN’T SKILLED ENOUGH so stop before proceeding. It was the other disassembly required where this video has the most value!
Question; How do you properly align the connector ? I got one to do here, and i wonder.. You can't see the other side, so it's a kind of a shot in the dark to align ? No so sure.
Gold squares (tiny gold dots in a square shape) at two opposite corners align the board... then tack a couple pins at each of the two corners. top left, bottom right... see some other videos. This video is good in that it's a macro overall depiction, but other videos are better with flux and soldering under the microscope.
Please a very single question. Once the digitalizer was removed, I touched the screen (black screen) with one of my finger and there are a few fingerprints . Can you suggest me a procedure how to clean it? Which product do I have to use? Soap, solvent....I'll appreciate your answer. About your video, very interesting.
That is the biggest pain when it comes to this repair. Short answer is get a lens pen. They are made for camera lenses but work well here too. Almost any liquid that you put on the screen will smear and oil which is what comes off of your skin is difficult to remove. Whatever you do stay away from glass cleaner, rubbing alcohol, etc. Most products will just make a mess and anything with fibers like a cotton cloth can scratch the surface.
@@GoCellPhoneRepair so, finally, what to do? How to clean it? Yesterday I cleaned, using a soft cloth, the fingerprints, but still there are stains and cannot be removed.
I have Ipad apple id lock by owner, its 12.9 pro 5th Generation, wifi, there is any hope can fixed changing the hardware or something to unlocked the ipad, Thank you
I was fixing my screen and everything was going very good but I don't know how I broked the home bottom port and I tried to fix it but is not working 😢. there is way to fix that port or to replace it ? I will be very thankful if you can answer my question thanks .
How did you put a screen back? Did you use adhesive then what kind? There is dusts under screen of my ipad air and I want to open screen and blow off dust and put back screen. thank you in advance!
I use the Red Tape adhesive shown on this page gocellphonerepair.com/double-sided-adhesive-tape/ Be very careful. The cables inside are delicate and be sure not to touch the display. Fingerprints are very hard to remove.
The unit I have is from my sister and she told me that when she dropped it she said that the display now show no shim card. I reseated the card with still the same problem. I'm thinking the shim plug from the mother board most have shafted out of place on the small shim card board. So unit has to be open up.
Hello, compliments, nice video !! Can I make a suggestion to remove the connector? I use hot air flow with a minimal temp, and for the removal use the hot blade (the one used to remove the loca glue connected to the soldering iron)
From what I can see you didn't use any liquid flux at all if you did you could just drag solder over all the pads in one swoop and if you have good flux you shouldn't have any bridging. No need to try to tediously try to do them one by it will never work hate to say but that was a bad attempt with just a bit a liquid flux you would have been done in minutes not trying to troll can just see your mistakes sure you got it all sorted out great video
+jamesregan7 I agree with most of what you are saying. I typically use a drag solder technique with charging ports on phones. I'm not sure why he did each connector individually but yes it was a successful attempt.
When I took the touch screen off mine, in a few spots the paint came off with the adhesive not a lot, anything you can do about that, like maybe retouch it with some paint, that is similar in color. I know it won't be perfect, but just so it blends in a little more.
Also how much magnification where you using, sorry I didn't watch the whole video yet, because i might not have to solder. The port was loose so I tightened it down, It's still not charging though, I noticed it's pretty dirty inside the port, so i'm gonna clean it, that could be the reason it's not charging. The one i'm working on doesn't seem to have been dropped or anything.
I have a question my mini ipad receives load but to turn on as per minute sends the message already elevated temperature change battery, and nothing but tell me that charging Jack can have short and I have change it is that true?
Thank you for the video! Hurts how Apple is doing all to be wasted after iPad's lifecycle, full of stickers and traps! Also thanks for showing us the way! Soldering must had been painfull
Hey bro,,,do you know why ,,my iPad mini cannot turn on or charge after I replace the screen digitizer ,,,I have no idea what was wrong with it...can u plz help
Wow, that was well done and saved an iPad. My iPad air does not turn on at all. I tried holding the power button and bottom round button at the same time and still won't turn on. What I see is that the screen sometimes goes from black to light gray I believe, but still won't turn on. What do you suppose is wrong with it? Thanks.
Hi, I have 2 questions: 1.How do you know when you align charging port to and mainboard for them to match. You can not see through them. 2. I saw you add lead on the top of charging port, I see no way the bottom lead will melt and connect to the mainboard. Thank you very much!
I know the comment is 5 years old but someone else will be watching this and the uploader still hasn't answered for some reason but 1. There's two square windows on either side of the connector that line up with reference squares on either side of the pads. 2. You're supposed to tin the pads on the logic board before you put the charging port on top. The heat from the soldering iron will draw that solder up through tiny holes on the pads on the new connector.
Dude, you need to get into the habit of disconnecting the battery before you remove the lcd and digitizer connectors, That's how how you blow the backlight, Just lift up the battery connector a bit and slide in a guitar pick to keep it isolated. Otherwise great Vid
Point taken an I agree with you 100%. Disconnecting the battery first and reconnecting last is part of best practice when it comes to working with anything that uses electricity. That said it's far more likely that you will encounter problems when reconnecting something while live than unplugging it. The iPad Minis and iPhone 6S series are notorious for blown back lights in this situation because it's so easy to bridge the power line to ground due to the connectors design. Furthermore the 6S has voltage going to the connector while the device is powered off. I'll update this video since it's pretty old and I have a good microscope camera now. Thanks for the comment!
The ones who hit unlike in this video are probably the same people who charge us a lot to repair our devices. Bearing in mind that most of them looked it up on RUclips to begin with
It seems risky. Though I do recommend to put it on repair and let a professional do all the work but also be sure to backup. In case anything goes wrong.
my ipad only charges when when u turn it off and if its on the ipad does not show its charging but it seems to charge but very very slow like a 1% every hour-hour and a half do u have any ideas? my glass is totally destroyed but u can still use it.
Just found this video and omfg you poor soul. Mine isn't charging either and the port looks normal. No warranty and I'm wondering what something like this costs? Thanks for the video and help.
I'd need a lot more information in order to help you. History? Have you tried a different cable and charging block? Are you using the original equipment? What message are you getting exactly? Any other details would be helpful.
It does not. That's a common question we get from customers and as long as it's hardware repair like a damaged port, screen, or other physical component you won't lose anything unless the logic board itself (PCB) has been affected.
i have 4 ipads, all of their charge ports are damaged, i attempted this on one of them, and regret it majorly, purely without the right tools. now im attempting to repair the pads that lifted when the soldered attachment came apart. Its really unfair to have to constantly replace $900 ipads because of their unfixable designs.
I did the repair and am now getting a message that the cable or accessory is not certified and may not work. Any suggestions before I replace with another one?
+cathy almeida Assuming that you have already tried multiple cables and charging blocks- it may sound obvious but to make sure all bases are covered before you go through all that work again- OEM 2.4 amp etc. I would be curious as to the history of the device. Was the port visibly damaged from the outside? Did it charge at all or have the same message before? There may be a different part of the system causing the error but its also possible that something is not connected right and of course you may have a bad replacement part.
You are a very patient person lol how much you charge to do this? Keep in mind this is for a low income family that can/will provide proof of income and it’s actually going to the oldest child of the family. So, payment of it is critical given the financial situation that they are in at the present moment.
Holy Crap! Apple really don’t like the idea of making things that can be fixed, do they? Odd since that philosophy puts lots of people off ever buying their devices, and it puts people off buying again if they have a fairly minor issue like the damaged charge socket. If they cared they would design so that the most likely damage areas would be simpler - even if they made it to need a specialist tool. Thanks for the very detailed video, but after watching less than half I already know I won’t be attempting the repair myself - I’ll just buy a new Samsung tablet.
A bit of a loaded question there. Assuming that the port is the problem we are 100%... so far. That doesn't mean as much after doing only a handful of this sort as opposed to, let's say hundreds, but so far so good.
Seems like an awful lot of work... The lightning port only has 8 actual connectors in it, I think. But that solder junction had loads more. Is there a reason? Might be worth it to simply build an adapter bridge that clamps near the bottom of the old cable.
Agreed. next time I will replace the other end. This repair was way too complicated. I'm sure that the majority of the connectors have to do with data transfer rather than charging.
PhrontDoor Has either of you tried doing it that way? I'm ordering and I'm pretty good at soldering but like you clearly shown it's not a fun task lol.
This is a fairly old video and these days a repair like this takes less time. To answer your question- in my experience, no. Soldering the flex onto the board is easier than trying to transfer just a port. They don' t like stress so you pretty much want to remove the board from your tablet regardless of how you plan to repair the charge port.
+Gigi Isbell well the good news is that if the board is already removed it should cost you less to have someone else repair it for you. To give you an idea I do these for 100 bucks in the tablet and 50 when they're already taken out.
The samsung port is much easier to replace, its almost like apple went out of their way to make sure that a common repair would be difficult and is why the store wont touch it.
Crapple loves to make flimsy products that break easily and they make them as hard and tedious as possible to repair so you either have to pay someone to fix it or buy a new one. I hate crapple.
Thank you… I normally fix all the micro electronics in our family and extended family. There is no way in hell I’m touching this one….lol

What the going price to fix a charge port?
Oh man...really need a lot of patience to do this repair job...you did a good job man
Thank you. Yeah this one really made me work. There was no tear down guide for the 3G model so I had to do a lot of digging to see what went where.

So, payment of it is critical given the financial situation that they are in at the present moment.
you don ,t need soldering the port just slides out
Thx my iPad broke so yea thx
Эй, американский мужик, спасибо за видео, повторил за тобой, все Оки доки!
What's the success rate of this repair?
Joseph Capehart I hadn't yet. Will try this weekend (will keep you updated, of course).
Good luck..
I am wonder if is not easier to replace just the port instead full flex cable?
This is a fairly old video and these days a repair like this takes less time. To answer your question- in my experience, no. Soldering the flex onto the board is easier than trying to transfer just a port. They don' t like stress so you pretty much want to remove the board from your tablet regardless of how you plan to repair the charge port.
Took everything apart till I got to the logic board and couldn’t figure it out, then I watched the vid and realized soldering was involved....oops lol
+Gigi Isbell well the good news is that if the board is already removed it should cost you less to have someone else repair it for you. To give you an idea I do these for 100 bucks in the tablet and 50 when they're already taken out.
Can you fix my iPad
Electronic engineer here. This is my job lol
Sometime look and see how to change the port on a samsung tab device to see how ridiculous the apple build is..
i cant do it
i have new ipad air 4 all close all back task off 5h maxi view video on youtube !! WtF?
Fix my ipad pls
oh is god!
yet you guys still buy apple products lol could have easily made this a plug and play job but thats apple lol!
