Fun fact: “Energon” Strongarm being turned into Brawn still ended up happening, in a bit of a roundabout way. He was redecoed into “Movie” Strongarm, who was then repurposed into “Shattered Glass” Brawn.
I'm pretty happy about Nightprowler, it was something I came across online and always liked it since, so I'm impressed.
The fact Toxitron has never been offically released by hasbro is a crying shame
Wasn't one released in the Prime line? It used the Wheel Jack mold and it had a screaming face in a style like Meltdown from Animated.
@@NightBladeSpearichu that was prime dead end oddly enough
@@esaunothing6336 Really? Guess it went for the zombie style Dead End then because those are definitely Toxitron colors.
I mean now we have him lol
@@Avarstia_OwainIts nice to finally have one on the shelves now
that Ultra Jetstorm redeco concept is giving me some "Transtech Starscream" vibes and I am loving it, really wish it could have made it to production (and as someone who recently saw a paint-stripped version of the BM figure at a thrift store lately, I understand the pain of wanting a durable version of the mold)
8:50 People have been saying that Legacy: Motormaster should be redecoed and retooled into Thunderclash.
I have a core memory of cybertron scouts that wouldn't sell at the big stores got re released at dollar general in universe boxes. They also sold the classics Optimus and tank megatron in universe packaging as well.
That Halloween version of Waspinator that we now know as Skywasp would've been a nice replacement for my original Transmetal Waspinator, entirely because it wouldn't have broken the same way. Translucent plastic wings. Flap flap snap.
I love learning about unreleased and canceled toys. There's just something so fascinating about it.
The deluxe Optimus Primal most likely would have been a repaint of the deluxe Beast Machines figure.
Yeah, I legitimately did a double-take when he said there was no Deluxe Primal at the time.
Funny thing about Universe Drench, I did a digibash of WFC:ER Sideswipe as Drench a while back alongside a digibash of Titan Returns (or was it POTP?) Topspin as one of the South American "Salt-Man" redecos.
Note to self, need to do some more digibashes
Optimus Primal DID have a deluxe toy, in Beast Machines. The mostly transparent blue plastic one. It was so bizarre, though at the time I was happy to have a new Optimus that was affordable (we were dirt poor during those years.)
I have two Toxitrons in my collection: the Animated one and the Combiner Wars one both from BotCon. I love how they look.
Was kinda hoping for Junkion CW limbs for the "CW" Toxitron.
Well, we got Wreck-Gar in Power of the Primes. No other Junkions that I know of, but you could always troop build
@@OptimusPhillip For some strange reason, I'm okay troop building every Junkion except Wreck-Gar.
That Brawn is really interesting especially those Energon Gauntlets.
like Legacy Blitzwing
@@masterfarr8265 and I would love to see an Upgrade Kit of that for Brawn.
7:25 Well they can follow eHobby and redeco it from TR: Mindwipe with Nightbeat's head. And maybe another one from Skullcruncher.
I remember this line! It enabled me to get some molds I wouldn't have been able to. :)
That Hot Shot really does look gorgeous in those Smokescreen colors.
If I remember right, the reason that defensora got cancelled was because it was planned for OTFCC 2004 but got pushed back to 2005 but they got their license revoked and with had the convention given back to botcon
I didn't go into this video wanting a Smokeshot/Hotscreen but life comes at you fast.
I admit I picked up the Battle in a Box Ultra Magnus vs Treadshot at Kohls, and, in not the cleanest custom work, repainted them into Soundwave and Runamuck, the former making sense with the opening grill-chest, the latter to go with Cybertron Runamuck (ie Runabout). Even the Mini-Cons, unchanged from their original releases, got repainted into Frenzy and Battlecharger (because Frenzy as a name made more sense to me as a scramble jet than Rumble) [even Dremeled the peg hole on Soundwave's right shoulder to fit Frenzy as his signature shoulder gun]
I have the set. They are better left as they are imo.
Smokescreen: Come on and SlAaM and welcome to the JaAm!
Drench: Rest in peace, broski. You at least inspired SG Sideswipe from both a Watsonian and Doylist perspective.
Horrorcons: Waspinator/Skywasp/Parasite looks dope, Blackarachnia looks garish, Leatherhide looks strangely cool (and a heck of a lot better than his basis) and Nightprowler wasn’t that big a loss considering how many Cheetors were being released at the time.
Menasor: ugly colors, interesting mold. Should’ve been painted to look like his namesake more.
Toxitron: dope mold; crazy colors. Glad TFCC brought him back as part of their last hurrah and hoping we get him in Selects.
Jetstorm repaint: neat
Spacewarp: retroactively a lot cooler thanks to Ask Vector Prime. Kinda want a retool of Siege Astrotrain as her.
Piranaking: Piranacon’s alternate universe G2 version.
Hot Spot/Defensor: Awesome concept. Shame we never got this one.
Devcon: doubt he’d be able to save a floppy mold like Energon Slugslinger. Hopeful that his eventual Selects figure retooled from Scourge doesn’t do to HasTak what it did to FunPub and 3H.
Brawn/Roadbuster: sounds like he’d have gotten the mold’s money’s worth.
Cybertron Optimus Primal was the first deluxe Optimus Primal? You sure about that?
Beast Machines had one as well. Looks more like a technorganic B'Boom than it does Optimus Primal due to the colors but it's supposed to be Primal nonetheless.
And since it wasn't Primal's colors to begin with, one could surmise that the cancelled redeco could've been in his cartoon color scheme.
As for Soundwave, he's the only Mutant I don't have. I picked up Savage/Nobel a long time ago then decided I wanted the other beast to beast "Transformers". I found the other three for close to original retail price in short order. Which is surprising considering their prices now and they weren't much lower at the time actually. But I kept skipping Soundwave. You will see "unbroken" ones often enough but I'm not spending that kind of money on something that's THAT prone to breaking. I mean, my Transmetal Megatron and Protoform Starscream are just fine so I'm used to figures that "always" crumble to dust just not doing that but I paid retail for those when they came out. Mutant Soundwave is one that just doesn't ever seem to drop in price like the other three sometimes do.
Once I did get those other three Mutants though, I started in on Digimon as it's a similar concept. Beast to beast transformations. With the Digivolving Digimon though, between the radically different designs (like a pig with ear wings to an angel) and the fact that it's Bandai of America and/or Japan (depending on the figure) making them, they don't work quite as well. Birdramon to Garudamon is one that does it very well though. Gaogamon to Machgaogamon, Garurumon to Weregarurumon, Greymon to Metalgreymon, Agumon to WarGreymon, GeoGreymon to RizeGreymon and a few others work well enough too. But damn can those Digivolving Digimon get expensive though. I have a lot and I still don't have any of the really rare ones. And that's with having MachGaogamon and RizeGreymon. Not to mention that there always seems to be more that I never heard of before. Just the other day I seen Aldamon to Emperorgreymon and Beowolfmon to Magnagarurumon and I didn't even know they existed. Yet the person showing them off had two of each lol.
It’s funny to hear you say “back when Kmart was still alive” since it’s still alive and well here down under lol
I actually recently bought Nightprowler, but the Waspinator I got with him was Buzzsaw, not Parasite Waspinator.
Skywasp/Parasite is part of the new Target 4pk with Goldbug, Ransack, and Toy Colors BW Scorponok.
@@CassidyShadewing Yeah, I know.
Just a shame that you can't get Parasite as a one-off
For me the only repaint that never made it to mass production that I miss is a repaint of combat hero Gen 2 Optimus prime his color scheme was darker colors. I've also seen this named as sure shot Optimus prime.
The Beast Machines toyline actually had a Deluxe Primal.
That one was so bad, TJ blocked it from his memory.
This might be my favorite line ever. I wish all of these were made into toys. I was never too fond of the continuity of the Unicron Trilogy, so when Universe (and the redecos planned to be Universe that were made into the 2007 Movie line Walmart Exclusives) took some of their molds to create characters I did know, I was amazed, some of those matched perfectly, in design and gimmicks, and gave us a chance of getting characters that would hardly get a mold dedicated to them. I wish they retooled heads though, that's literally the only shortcoming this line had
It was just such a wacky line, during a rather exciting--if niche--point in the brand's history.
In my head, 2001RID Destructicon Scourge and Bludgeon along Dreadwind and Smokejumper felt more of 2003 TF: Universe releases.
It's bit funny that 2003 TF: Universe did two versions of Constructicons/Devastator, Micromaster and Ultra Class (2001RID Build Team repaint).
But yeah, I do hold odds for Selects finally doing The Toxitron from new Legacy G2 Laser Optimus mold.
Yeah, I think the only Devcon we got was the one from Botcon 2014 repainted from Generations Scourge. And strangely, he got repainted as a Sweep later on in a 3-Pack with another Scourge and Universe Cyclonus.
The headsculpt utilized by the sweep actually was a entirely different head mold based on devcon which is just even more bewildering.
Now I want to see a Gen selects Legacy Smokescreen from the new Armada Hot shot
I wouldn't be surprised if some of these got dug up for Legacy, like Brawn, Roadbuster, Smokescreen, Spacewarp
Leatherhide not releasing was definitely a tragedy
That Piranha King figure looks awesome
Hopefully a Legacy Gen Selects Toxitron will happen using the Laser Prime mold. They did Scourge recently for the Velocitron series so it's possible.
That second hotspot used the pieces from an incredibly rare japenese repaint of rid 01 prime.lucky draw i believe
Considering we've gotten things like Prototype Tigatron, Boxart Black Archnia, Skywasp and Nightprowler... I would almost be disapointed if we don't see Universe Smokescreen in the next year or two once Hot Shot is released.
This is why I love 3rd party. They give us these figures that Hasbro won’t
I have a Mutant Soundwave. His own weight is starting to form hairline fractures in his ankles.
Still hoping some day we get a Toxitron out of the new Laser Prime figure.
22 minutes of heartbreak.
20:47 That could be Primal's the originally intended new form after being cured from Unicron's virus, before the Beast Wars 10th anniversary figure was brought into the table.
2 possibilities:
1- Could an entirely new mold, which is unlikely because of budget.
2- An import of Robotmasters' Primal repainted with Beast Machines colors (You know mostly brown & gold, with a blue chest), I mean they did the same with Silverbolt, I don't see why not with Primal was well.
Broly:*throws a giant black hole blast to vaporise algarythm to hell*
I REALLY wish that Mutant Soundwave repaint happened. Just so there could be a version that doesn’t crumble to dust.
Any plans for an episode on the history of multilingual packaging? 'cuz I'm kinda the expert on that, about 95% of the current TFWiki article is the result of my research.
At least we technically got Drench with SG Sideswipe
i was upset the universe 2003 smokescreen based off of armada hot shot got cancelled, same with universe 2003 drench, spacewarp (i wonder what spacewarp would look like as an energon and cybertron characters besides being based off of jetfire), devcon being based off of energon slugslinger, the universe 2003 brawn based off of energon strongarm with g1 brawn colors, the same with roadbuster's universe 2003 toy
Otherwise known as my dream "reissue" wishlist
~Response to a year old video, but...
I'm pretty sure that when Takara said the moulds were too worn out, they meant the actual moulds used to produce castings of the toy in the factories.
When you say the mould is right there, you're actually pointing at a casting.
And while you can use a casting to recreate a mould, it will always be inferior to the original mould because any imperfections and wear on the casting will get inherited by the new mould.
It's like making a photocopy of a photocopy.
It gets worse every time you do it.
I think he was referring to the fact that a casting had been done from that mold for the prototype.
I guess he just forgot that there was a three year gap between Spacewarp's planned release and the Astrotrain release, during which the Armada Mini-Con Teams got redecoed multiple times (and yes, Takara was specifically talking about the Mini-Con Teams, not the Armada line as a whole).
It's a real shame that we didn't get Toxitron, Brawn or Roadbuster. I'm very confident that we'll get a Toxitron out of Legacy Optimus Prime though on the bright side.
Only one I can think of for primal was robot masters
It would have been awesome if the Thrustor mold made it
Watching from sweden
I miss the univers line. Wish it would make a come back.
hi tj youre so fun to watch
hoping we get a Toxitron redeco out of the Legacy Laser Prime mold.
That’s Hot Shot??? I thought it was a revamped Smokescreen (or was I wrong?)
I would love to see some one repaint legacy laser optimus into toxic optimus prime
3:55. Censor his "weapons".
What was the name of the Jetstorm repaint? Was he still sold as Jetstorm, or a different character?
I still have my Unreleased Universe Drench.
Oh and also the Unreleased Space MiniCons.
Beast machines had a Deluxe Primal.
RID Scourge came out in 2002, not 2001.
First have you used all the big Machine Wars molds a third time. King Atlas, Whirl and Soundwave. Menasor would have completed the set.
@TJOmega I'm looking to sell a haslab unicron msib I promise will make you a great deal on it
That smokescreen looks very bad

I've not really been a big fan of Toxitron. I don't like the colors, I always thought it felt kind of random to throw on an Optimus Prime... however with the G2 Laser Rod mold and the leaking slime details they have painted on the taker truck section I actually do like that idea. I kind of wish they leaned into making sure Toxitron always has that vehicle mode more cause that's the only thing that makes it work for me. Use a G1 Octane or the "Tankor" molds they made as updated Octanes with a different name due to trade mark reasons. He doesn't need to be an Optimus Prime repaint he needs to be a tanker truck repaint. I could also see this working really well from Dark of the Moon Megatron since he not only has the right vehicle mode but I think the damaged junk looking robot mode might actually fit the character better than just being another evil Optimus Prime, we have too many of those as it is.
By the way... I have a TM Megatron and Armada Predacon and my original one has actually held up better than the Armada version. I actually just checked Megatron cause I happen to have him on a shelf right next to me and yeah he's still in great condition. I have no idea what you're talking about with the chrome flaking cause all my Transmetal figures still have all their chrome. The Armada versions of the molds feel like they suffer from some mold degradation though, especially Cheetor cause all the Armada versions I have are really loose and floopy in all their joints. I don't have the original versions of Rhinox, Terrorsaur, or Airazor, only Megatron and Cheetor I've experienced both versions, but the original Transmetals I have all have nice stiff joints and aren't super floppy like my Armada figures. Predacon also feels like a cheaper plastic than the original I can't really explain it but despite being the exact same mold the original feels like a more solid figure. Even the tail can actually hold a pose on the original while my Armada version just drops down because every single one of the joints is too loose to support itself in any kind of pose.
The chrome on a large number of vintage Transmetals simply did not last well. TM Rattrap and Shokaract in particular have super flakey chrome that just disintergrates over time. Many figures did have good, stable chrome, but there are also batches that have the most flakey chrome imaginable. I think some BM Vehicons also suffer from similar issues with their chrome as well.
