ThankYou so very much for filming the Monastary!!
I'm very surprised they allowed you to even go within the gates, let alone film the interiors of the walls...
I think that is a great honour to be allowed in there...
    Thankyou!!
I do truly appreciate all the work you do filming all these special places....🙂
I live in Washington State USA and have never been 2 Europe..

I'm amazed you received permission to videotape this monastery, but I'm certainly glad you did. What an astonishing, historic place to visit.
Edit: Vic, you are so respectful and polite, I can't imagine them turning you down.

Thank you for your comments my friend! I was careful not to videotape the monks (this is why on a couple of occasions you see them around and I had to turn the camera towards another direction) and that kept me out of trouble

Those beautiful frescoes! They were the videotape of the time , telling stories and the history of holy events in pictures for all to see
One has to remember in those days very few of the people could read and it was the monks who wrote down the history of the country they lived in all of course overseen by the religious leaders
    Amazing video vic

I do apologies for my fellow compatriots. They are too hot-tempered. Huge love and strong respect from Georgia! By the way this is the name old Greeks gave us as they saw us as farmers and this is our widely known exonym (our endonym is Kartvelians).
Yes Monastery of Iviron was founded by Georgian monks, John the Iberian and Tornike(Tornikios) in the 10th century AD.
Panagia Portaitissa - Iviron Theotokos is the guard of the holy Mount Athos and to whom Georgia(Iveria) is dedicated. We are proud and humble at the same time.
Lord Jesus Christ Son of God have mercy upon me a sinner.

Greece did not occupy a monastery for the simple reason that it was already in Greece....

    • @davitjirkvalidze2556
      @davitjirkvalidze2556 Год назад

Don't falsify history, it was a Georgian monastery, after the Russian emperor abolished the Patriarchate of Georgia, the Greeks took advantage and illegally appropriated it. They deliberately tried to erase the Georgian traces, for example in 1883 they tried to erase the names of the Georgian kings on the murals. Destroy a lot of Georgian books from the library. You are appropriators of other cultures. We will definitely be back

  • @irakli229

    • @VicStefanu

This is a Greek monastery (not Georgian as claimed(, established by two Georgian monks around 980AD. Today, the monastery has about 30 working monks and novices, none of whom are Georgian.
