Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on RUclips, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on RUclips. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on RUclips, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.

The Who were such a great band, I can't believe that so many people never heard of them. They were a groundbreaking group and every member of this band was at the top on their instrument. Keith Moon was an insane drummer, hard hitting and melodic at the same time. John Entwistle played a heavy bass and really was the spine of the band. Pete Townsend on guitar was down and dirty as well as uplifting and sweet, a fantastic songwriter as well. Roger Daltrey was such a great singer! It never ceases to amaze me how just four band members could produce such amazing sound. The Quartet was big in the 70's and 80's for rock bands. I think this song is about the people of the 60's who thought they (we) were going to change the world so we switched up our political bosses and ended up with the same problems, people don't matter where politicians are concerned and politicians only care about people at election time (fooled again).

As much as I love this performance, it is truly awe inspiring, I'd say that this isn't even the Who at their best! Isle of Wight or Live at Leeds are hands down some of the best live rock performances by one of the best ever.

John Entwistle was a great bass player. Keith Moon on drums was mad as a hatter, but a great drummer. You get some mad antics with these guys on stage.
Keith Moon the drummer had gaffer tape wrapped around his head to keep his headset on because the instrumental is a syntheser track, which often malfunctioned live & Keith's headset always fell off.
The sing WGFA is about politics & is now always played in the UK around election times - Don't get fooled again.
The Who fans are not toxic we just passionately love our music & most if us have been into the band for many decades. We know our band is the best in the world so we dont get into arguments about other bands. Most of us Who fans are quite deaf from years of going to see The Who & standing too close to the speakers. The Who are in the Guinness Book of Records for the loudest band in the world.
WGFA was my favourite Who single when it came out & it still us. Also the album it's from Who's Next is still my favourite.

Keys are backing track played by Pete.. and the light show at the end (blue) is an Actual Laser light show... before they were outlawed industry wide. The Who is phenomenal, most notably for their Rock Operas.... Tommy and Quadrophenia. Both are Immense works of art.... "Quad" being my own favorite. If you are jumpin down The Who rabbit hole.... You'll keep yourself busy for sure as they have "Decades" of material... Cheers !!

Their last performance with Moonie on drums. It was never the same after he died.

The Who is my favorite band from the old days! I actually suggested this song to you also a few days ago. Pete and Roger always try to outdo each other on stage. Keith has that tape on his head so that he won't lose his headphones! He's a very energetic drummer! I can't wait for the drums to drop after the light show and the scream! Pete Townsend: lead guitar. Roger Daltrey: lead singer. Keith Moon: drummer. John Entwistle: Bass guitar. Great reaction, everything I expected!

The keyboard is an off-camera keyboard player. The Who used several over their career, but the names in the band were just the four that you saw here in this reunion tour.
This wasn’t a reunion tour. The Who were at the height of their popularity at the time. This was filmed for the movie The Kids Are Alright, released in 1979 or early 1980. Keith Moon, the drummer, died shortly after this performance. The Who continued to record and tour regularly for several years.
Recorded at Shepperton Studios in 1978 in front of an invited audience. Yes, it was Keith Moon’s last performance with the band before he tragically died 2 months later at age 32.
Pete Townsend on guitar plays the organ and also used a funny looking box with knobs called a Synthi VCS 3 - (also used by pink floyd ) during the laser show part on the backing track, cool song, thanks
This is early enough before Marshall’s (yes the amp) music shop refused to sell Pete Townsend any more Les Pauls to break up.

Late to this party. I was just a freshman in college when this album came out. Imagine in one year, three mega albums were released- The Who "Who's Next"- Santana "Abraxas" and Led Zeppelin "numerous IV"-what a year.
Glad to see you dug it ,dude....this was a rockin protest song that got (Nixon as the boss same as Johnson ) the Who into the stadium rock show where I first saw them ...big bad John on his long neck ricky made my older brother a bass player and Moon made me the drummer...keep on rockin,dude it looks like you found a home in the 60`s & 70`s where it all started....
Lol - Keith Moon always taped his earphones to his head so they didn't fall off - probably because he played drums like an animal!
Speaking of which, one rumor was that the Muppet, Animal, the crazy fuzzy drummer with a chained collar was inspired by Keith! ( the other rumor was he was inspired by Mick Fleetwood. With 100% respect to Mick, I find it so easy to watch Keith and picture Animal!)
These guys now are recognized as "proto-punk" (Punk before punk was Punk). The big three proto-punk bands were these guys, the Rolling Stones and The Kinks. The Kinks got banned from performing in the 'states back in '65 for their onstage fighting, etc., so got limited exposure which resulted in diminished success. Pete was doing his classic Windmills on guitar. He wrote it and played the Lowery Organ as well as Gretsch 6120 electric guitar and an acoustic guitar on the studio recording.

This song is a view of big historical movements from the perspective of the average person. Revolutions happen, new constitutions can come and go and it often doesn't change things for the person on the street. "The parting on the left is now the parting on the right" is the revolutionaries often become the people in power and become the people they overthrew. "Meet the new boss same as the old boss". For most of the people, who's in charge very often doesn't matter on a day to day basis. They're still ruled by some "boss". The hope is when those big changes come down, the people "won't get fooled again". This is a powerful social and political song. The music is awesome of course but if you ponder the lyrics, makes you think about the state of society. Just as relevant today as it was 45+ years ago.

Not sure what quirk of the RUclips algorithm brought me here for this video today, but im glad i got to watch your face as you experienced one of my favorite songs from one of the all time greatest bands for the first time.

If you want to stay live with The Who you have a lot of places to go and all good! My suggestion is "Young Man Blues" from The Isle of Wight festival 1970. There is tons of energy like all Who performances. You can stay right at his concert as well and go to Baba O' Riley. You won't be disappointed either way.

PARTING ON THE LEFT ETC... CHANGING HAIR FASHION
The backing sound is a really early use of a sequencer. More recently they have a keyboard player who does this. Keith's got the headphones gaffer taped on so he can keep time with the sequencer.
Correct. Keith couldn’t hear the synth backing track, created by Pete in his studio in 1971, so they used a tape of it. Yes that was gaffer tape round his head so his headphones wouldn’t fall off (so he could synch the backing track)
The keyboard sound used to be prerecorded back in the day. Roger and Pete still tour, with Ringo's son on the drums... Forget who the bass player is these days.. They have extra musicians on stage nowadays.

The original four, here, could not be topped on stage. Very important British Band with Stones and Zeppelin. (Beatles are their own list)
Back in the early 70s I recall late night FM djs often arguing about whether the Beatles, Stones, or Who were the greatest band. The Who usually emerged as the consensus. Post-breakup, The Who faded into the background most quickly (not that any other band in particular took their spot, but just the 70s "Me generation" moved on to Disco and similar pop tripe).
Keith "the loon" Moon the drummer wears duct tape to hold his headphones on. John Entwistle the bassist once said that he was a babysitter of 3 unruly tottlers. Pete Townshend tht the guitarist has been causing cancer since 1964 with the windmill move on the guitar. Roger Daltrey the lead singer us one if the best as are all the others. You hit the meaning on the nose.

In Pete T’s autobio’ he tells how near his property in England, a music festival was going to held. The Greateful Dead and others, played. And, Pete saw the waste left in the field by concert fans. Much like at Woodstock, field of trash, sleeping bags, food, the primitive toilets. “Teenage Wasteland”.
This performance for the documentary about The Who, “the kids are alright” in 1978. It’s was one of the last performances with their drummer Keith, who died alchohol/prescribed drugs shortly after.
And, politically -you hope your side will do what you vote for the ideology,…and they get elected for their own power/influence, or the candidate does not fulfill what you wish - vote them out -don’t get fooled again,…yet, that will happen.

This was a spectacular performance in 1978, among many; the studio song/album was 1970 and I saw that tour at age 16(!) almost too young 😆
The guitarist wrote almost everything and was famous for destroying a guitar live onstage -as you see😏
It does bother me a little that they never show the keyboardist, especially since it’s so important and prominent in the song -it doesn’t matter that he’s not officially a band member.

Interesting that only 2 years after this performance, Talking Heads had already evolved to the legendary Remain in Light album -excellent video of that tour: HEADS ROME 1980.

I always thought the "parting" lyrics just meant that the left-right labels were actually irrelevant and that both sides were corrupt...I never figured out the part about the beards. Had their beards grown longer overnight because they were trying to look hip or just because they were older?
I thought it was a reference to hairstyles in the Mod days in the 60s, where fashion changed on a daily basis. The Who were a big part of that.

I agree with your interpretation of the song. It's about a revolution gone sour. An (imaginary) left-wing revolution that morphs into a regime just as bad as the right-wing dictatorship it aims to replace. "Meet the new boss...same as the old boss."

It is kind of cool seeing your reaction to the music we grew up on. There was so many great performances back them . I just do not see that kind of energy today. As far as the reveloutionary themes go. One artist put it thusly. We thoughy we could change the world, then we saw that we could only change ourselves. Then we just made a lot of money.
Yeah, its about don't believe all the lies. They were punk before it was a thing, used to go on tour and wreck hotels, the drummer drove a car into a swimming pool, and they did a big tour of America and made a loss after paying all the damages.

You need to watch some earlier live stuff. Unfortunately Keith the drummer, who wasn't in the best of shape by that point, died soon after this performance, but the who were definitely at their best when Keith was at his best during the 60s to mid 70s.

Go back and listen to the lyrics. This is the most ANTI-revolution song you could get. Went through the fight for change (which HAD to come), nothing changed but the people running things, the men who spurred them on are now judging and killing people, history hasn't changed, he'll move himself and his family aside if they happen to be half-alive (hunger and displacement), the hypnotized (zealots who follow the leaders) never lie ("do ya?!") Finally, it ends with "meet the new boss; same as the old boss."

He is talking about how there is very little difference between political parties and that he will no longer support one party because he was fooled. The song is made in sarcasm when he talks about the change that has happened. No real change has actually happened. The new boss is just like the old boss

Keith ruined the drama of the last minute and a half. While the keyboard solo nears an end, (in the studio version) the drums kick in for a few seconds, yielding to the keyboard for a few seconds, drums again for a few seconds, then keyboards again, then drums and keyboards and the scream. Keith just started drumming and wouldn't stop. Listen to the ALBUM version.
