I love your point about Wilder. Not many people have said it, and a lot of our fans put it down for him knowing the DNA of the club, but the facts are he had a huge amount to deal with. After relegation, the turnover in players was huge (15 out + 3 outward loans, with 7 coming in + 3 loans, + 3 promotions from youth) and as you'd expect from that, we weren't very fluid early on in the campaign due to that. This was all while a takeover was stalling in the background, meaning we had no shirt sponsor, we didn't know what the budget was for transfers, etc. and as well as trying to put relegation behind us, we have had a player who recently (this summer) lost his father and then a former fan favourite who tragically lost their life (RIP to all). Wilder has had to manage the dressing room, the media, etc. and deal with all of that, on top of managing and coaching the team. Outsiders have criticised his tactical nouse, but I think his man management, and his handling of extraneous situations is exceptional. Well done Chrissy. With regards the squad - I have to say that Leeds have a much better balance to their squad than us and some really talented individuals, so I can't see past them for the title, but football is also played in the head and I think we're mentally strong, so hopefully we'll give them a good run for their money and can make the top 2.
It's worth pointing out that the 2 away defeats to Leeds & Boro were immediately on the back of the tragic loss of Georgie Baldock. Whilst Chris Wilder made no reference to the likely effect on the squad there can be little doubt that the players felt it deeply and were definitely affected by that.
Fuel for the performances and passion at the club. G.B. was one of the best fullbacks this club has ever had. Need to make sure it’s a special season overall, for George.
We (Sheffield United) have the two best centre halves in the league in Souttar and Ahmedhodzic, with one of the best goalkeepers and one of the best centre midfielders in Souza. We’re a little light in some areas (right back, centre midfield depth, depth up front, a genuine left winger), but around that we have quality players and a very good manager for us. Wilder understands the DNA of the club and the players understand what they need to offer to play for the club also. I think with the age of the squad we’ll only get better, and we’ll strengthen in January. Rak-Sakyi, Hamer and O’Hare will influence games more as the season progresses too.
@ Ahmedhodzic? 2022/23 Championship Team of the Season and he’s been outstanding this season - we’ve kept 10 clean sheets in 15 games, you obviously don’t watch our games in full. He struggled in the Premier League in a completely incapable side where he had no protection in front of him - don’t talk about things you have no clue about.
@@lightninggornall really like Rodon, so no issues with saying he’s right up there. Struijk has never really been for me, but he took his goal well against us this season and he’s been good, so I can understand that take. Our clean sheet record has a lot to do with Souttar and Anel though, I think the Leeds and Boro games this season need to be taken in context in terms of the Baldock situation, so conceding in those games and being off it wasn’t a surprise.
Struijk has been been ridiculous, better than rodon. The fact weve faced only 6 shots on target in 540 mins with 4 teams including sheff united not registering a shot on target. Us and yourselves are my top 2. @WannabePlayer18
Yes, not a bad week at all. Bristol city penalty was the only blot, but what a way to correct it. HMS Clean Sheet is sailing the seven seas nicely, Cooper hasn't conceded a home goal since signing!!!!
Squad quality will define this season. Leeds had to make a last minute change to replace Firpo which by default gave Schmidt some minutes and he did show glimmers of exciting play in his short cameo.
Lamps to Coventry would be interesting. Would it be the kind of job where he could actually do well in the short term because the good work has already been done for him by Robins? Much like Edwards and Luton.
Credit to Tyrese Cambell and I like big Kieffer also, but realistically Blades should be going for a proper goal scoring cf on Jan window. Promotion is never easy, but they wont get an easier year than this. The Championship top teams have never been softer than this time, in the years I've been following the league. Blades would cruise to lift the trophy if they had a 20 goals per season, reliable striker. They got every other position covered already. Then again so many other teams also need a goal scorer, they don't come cheap in Jan. Burnley need one even more than blades do bc Parker has always had a great striker when he's achieved promotion. A Dom Solanke or Mitrovic he does not have this time, and it's not looking great up top for them. In defense tho, that Maxime Esteve dude might just be the best cb in the league. Great timing with the offside traps again against swansea. Really enjoying watching him dominate in their defensive line. Even if burnley fail to get promoted, Esteve will be playing in the EPL, or some other top 5 league next season.
Dependence on a 20 goal a season striker is old school thinking. We need goals from various sources and with different attacking approaches based on different strikers attributes like Moore v Campbell. Wilder understands this. Millwall v Leeds showed that a lack of "Plan B" is a problem. Leeds were clueless that game.
You could be right but then there’s that old self destruct pattern and as the saying goes….in a battle the other side’s also get a vote. There are the Blades and West Brom and Burnley in the mix and Boro are scoring for fun though a bit erratic and Millwall are grittily grinding out more one nils than anyone has a right to and they beat Leeds! So forget the entitlement Leeds fans you have to earn it!

Great win United ..best team won ..as usual,
Wilder is top after 15. Not bad from the 21st best manager in the league. 😉

Still shedding tears in Sunderland.
Bristol City had more first team players injured than Norwich! Talk about an injury crisis…
No mention of the awful reff display at Stoke no?
Luton going down. Leeds top 2 within a month ,and then pulling away 😮
I can imagine Leeds fans pulling away like mad. but I'd rather not.
Saucy
