62 years old now, and I have played them all. For me, Civ 4 is the best. Being voiced by Nimoy was just brilliant. I have on Steam, Beyond Earth, Civ 3, 4, 5 and 6. But Civ 4 is still the one that I return to the most. Mind you, I wish I still had my copy of Civ 2. It would be nice to try that one again after all these years.
@@LTGamingRUclips I can remember the original Civ and Civ 2. Both came in huge boxes with massive manuals lol. Those were the days. My first PC was a 486DX 66mhz lol. I probably played the first 2 on either Atari ST or Amiga 1200. I can't remember now lol.
@@Andy.Gledhill.Models. haha those were the days. The Box for CIV II was massive and had a huge manual and guide. We spent a few hours just looking at the box 🚀😇
@@LTGamingRUclips One thing you don't see these days, is those big keyboard overlays that you used to get with boxed games. I have been looking for a keyboard overlay or guide for MS Flight Simulator. But cannot find one.
I have only played Civ revolution on mobile and Civ 6. Speaking of Civ 6, I am from a third world country (The Philippines), it literally took 15 hours of abusing a school's WiFi to download Civ 6, I cannot get myself to hate anything about it, because I actually managed to download the damn thing. (with trial and error).
Dude, Civ 3 had Drafting units, more government types, slaves, and wartime / peacetime economies. I loved all they did to bring new systems into the game.
I think a remastered Civ I would make a great mobile game, instead of Civilization Revolutions. Civ II would be wonderful if remastered. I don't know if there'd be a lot of difference between remastered Civ II and Civ III in terms of look and feel. So, instead of remastering them individually, maybe create a new single remaster of those games combined with options to choose between rules and gameplay mechanics when you start a game. Civ IV still looks great. I'm not sure a remaster is necessary for it yet, other than maybe increasing the resolution.
For me it’s Civ 3 all day long - this one got me hooked and I’ve never looked back and been civ fan ever since- civ 4 next for me but 3 always be special for me
Civ 2 for me is the best game I ever played. I played the game for years after its release. I tried Civ 3 but quickly went back to Civ 2. I wish I still could play it now. God I miss that game.
My favorite will always be Civ 4. I loved the music and look and feel of the game. And how could I forget Leonard Nimoy narrating the game! I also miss from the old Civs where they had "We Love the King Day" and you could upgrade your palace.
42 years young now, I've played all them of. I remember being blown away by CIV 1, even though I didn't understand English at the time. CIV 2 was a massive upgrade, but CIV 4 takes the cake for me. Colonization was also great. And Alpha Centauri was epic as well. If I had to rank them it would probably be Civ 4, Civ 2, Colonization, Civ 1, Civ 3, AC, Civ 4 - Colonization, Civ 6 and 5 on the bottom.
My first was civ 5, and I just couldn’t get into it. Eventually I saw civ 6 on sale and decided to buy it. And that’s how I lost hundreds of hours of my life.
CIV 5 was my favorite. I didn't like how CIV 4 limited the number of cities you could found by imposing an increasing cost for each city built, which forced you to have to attack other civilizations if you wanted to expand. In other words, I felt like the game limited the number of strategies you could employ to win, or at least, win without a sever penalty. I loved the lack of stacking and the hex grid in Civ 5, which I thought added to the strategic depth of the game.
You could fix overexpansion easy, organised trait saved 50% but code of law unlocked caste system. You just put a merchant speciast in every city each giving 3 gold. Build the courthouse and another 50% of you maintenance costs disappeared. Then when you got a great person, you sent him off for a bundle of gold.
Civ 2 WWII scenario that came with the base game is still the best scenario of them all. Whether developer made, or fan made, Civ 2’s was the best. I would rank 3 first, but Civ 2 would be second.
I'm 34 and Civ2(one of the few games I could play on my potato computer as a kid) is still the Civ I have the most hours in by far. Such a great game, I loved the council.
The council was so iconic. The Wonder videos also. Nothing has ever come close to this feeling for me 🚀 maybe the wonder of being a kid helped but il stick with it!
I do miss playing Civ 2. When Civ 2 came out, I would take the game with me on my business trips and play Civ 2 on the company laptop. I always laughed during peaceful times and the Military Advisor would show up drunk. I spent countless hours in my hotel room (and in an office at work if I was left alone) playing that game. I would also rank Civ 2 at #1 just for those memories alone!
Great list. Civ 5 is the closest to perfect entry for me. Although Civ4 has the most nostalgic charm (it is my most played game of all time!) Civ 6 was cool, love the district system and the rock bands unit. Exciting times with Civ 7 coming in 2025
Great list! I've been playing Civilization since 1992 so I've played them all, and I completely agree with #1 and #2. Someone just the other day was telling me that they preferred Civ 5 to Civ 6 and then asked me which was my favorite, to which I immediately responded "Civ II" which is followed by "Civ IV".
Civ 2 was my favorite with 4 a close second. I love the advisors in Civ 2, and I love how it was so easy to use the cheat menu in Civ 2 to adjust the game to how you like it. The other Civ games let you do that too, but Civ 2 had the simplest interface for it.
For me personally, Civ III was the last iteration that felt fun and addictive. I started playing the original Civ in 1992 on my roommate's PC (I didn't get my own until 1994) in the barracks of Ford Ord, and it was certainly fun, but Army duties and the fact it wasn't my own computer meant I rarely got to play. When I did get my own PC, Civ was the very 1st game I bought and until that PC died on me in 1998, I played the hell out of it. Once I upgraded my PC a few months later, I discovered that Civ II existed, and that was such a paradigm shift. The game was so much better looking and the increased complexity made for games that became much longer and satisfying. Where a full game of Civ I might take 5-6 hours, a full game of Civ II now took at least a whole day, and since I worked full time, if I started a game Monday after work, I might not finish until Wednesday or Thursday night. Civ II was the peak iteration for me. Civ III in 2001 was the last time I got massive enjoyment from the game. It introduced just enough new complexity to appreciate a more sophisticated approach to my strategies without taking it too far, as Civ IV and every version since. I played Civ III extensively until I bought Civ IV in 2006, and since then I have played each new iteration less and less. I did give Civ IV a fighting chance, playing often for a few years, but it just never hooked me the way the previous three did. Every game felt like an obligation. Civ V and Civ VI sit on my current computer (I switched from PC to Mac in 2014) both having barely been played more than a few times each. I'll give Civ VII a shot, but I don't have much optimism that it will do much for me, and I can only hope to be pleasantly surprised.
@@LTGamingRUclips I've also been playing Civ since the beginning, and each one had its highlights. Civ III had the animated advisors and the Palace, and Civ II had the wonder movies. I find that for me, playing those versions is driven by nostalgia, and it wears off pretty fast. The gameplay of Civ IV is still what draws me back to that version, and I can pick it up and be hooked back in for weeks to months.
Civ VI is the best for me, because is an all-around strategy games, its very complex, and you can win with all types of victories. its more strategic for me. I love Civ IV and before but are war game at the end.
i agree dude, its the only one ive played where it wasnt constant war. that being said, theres not enough war, it seems like the AI never declares on me
Been playing since Civ 1 when it was released and this is my favorite PC gaming strategy series of all time. 1. Civ 4 - with BtS, this is the best, deepest, most fun Civ. Plus, Leonard Nimoy and a fucking Grammy. 2. Civ 2 - Just an excellent follow up to #1. I still hear "BUILD CITY WALLS" in my sleep. 3. Civ 6 - I know this is going to surprise many since it does have poor AI (hallmark of the entire series, really) and some clunky mechanics. But frankly it's just trendy to hate on it - the going rage for the Internet the last decade - and I think it's a blast to play. 4. Civ 1 - The original. The king. You have discovered explosives. BOOM! That explosion rocked gaming forever. Almost flunked out of college due to playing this game so much. 5. Civ 5 - The whole one unit per tile was a fresh take as were the districts. But the game never quite was as much fun as some iterations. 6. Civ 3 - I played this one the least. Some cool stuff but that corruption mechanic could be frustrating as hell. It always felt to me like the step back that allowed 4 to take a massive leap forward. 7. Beyond Earth - Billed as the successor to SMAC, it had none of the heart, depth or charm of SMAC. It felt like a mediocre mod and remains the only Civ I never even bothered getting the expansions for. This game was basically a trash money grab. Two honorable mentions: 1.5 SMAC - Holy hell this game has never been equaled. You could even alter terrain to impact rainfall patterns to screw your neighbors. The various factions gave this game so much feel and depth it was incredible. I'd put this between 4 and 2 and is easily one of the best 4X games ever made. 3.5 Colonization - There's the original and the mod for Civ 4. I'm really thinking more the mod for Civ 4 as the original is now 30 years old. It had some pretty rough mechanics and could be brutally difficult at times. Heck, your first inland settlement was always going to be a major struggle. But the economy-building, the diplomacy and the trade gives this game an entirely different feel. I'm still waiting on a modern take on this one.
Civ 3 was my jam back when I was a kid, I was terrible at it but I have fond memories. Within the last year or so though, I picked it up on Steam and have sunk 600+ hours into the game so far, I think it's a very underrated game. The open trading system is one of my favourite aspects, almost everything can be traded freely and interchangeably, with monetary values tied to them. It makes for such a dynamic diplomatic experience, incentivizing you to explore and make contact with the other civs to have more trading partners, even suiciding galleys across the ocean just so that you can make contact with far away civs and trade techs and gold to get an edge over those who haven't made contact. The game's definitely got its flaws, but for me civ 3 is the way to go.
Too bad the bugs are so hard to live with... Large map or huge and you start to pan the camera and map starts missing features untill they load... No matter how fast a cpu or RAM you place in your pc. Still plays like a donkey. Beyond earth have the same issue, showing it really just is a re skin of civ V. Used to hate civ VI but after seeing how stable it runs. Its hard to go back to civ V. (unless you start to mod either... Omfg what a nightmare 😢😢😢)
I started out with Civ I on seven floppy disks for DOS, got Civ II for Christmas 1999 and have soent some time on III, V and VI. I have continued to play Civ II for 25 years, obviously my favorite to this day. I love that the series continues to this day.
Civilization call to power is my fave. Although its a clone its still the best civ game. A rare time when a clone turns out better than the original. Any civ fan who has not played it realy needs to give it a try.
Started with Civ I, skipped Civ II for :Test of Time and cEvo, played through summers with Hotseat Civ III, enjoyed Civ IV so much that we've skipped Civ V entirely lol. Civ VI was underwhelming due to the trivial AI, but looking forward to VII for sure. My ranking would be (of the original ones that I've played): 1. Civ IV 2. No One 3. Civ III 4. Civ I 5. Civ VI
I still remember picking up civ2 as a kid I was with my mom leaving a home-depot and I saw it next to the cash register and bought it on a whim 20 something years later and I still remember that as one of my best buys ever
Civ 4 had the best mod ever - Fall from Heaven 2. It added magic like changing the terrain of a tile from desert, summoning units, units which attacked the weakest unit in a stack, units which respawned once per turn, Hell Terrain which spread across the map as the Armageddon Counter creeped up... It was awesome. I've tried most of the others. Civ3 had too many cities, all too similar, slowing late game to a crawl. Civ5 hexes were great, removal of stacking wasn't great at all. The ranged unit mechanics also felt illogical, archers shot further than tanks. Units shooting more than 1 tile should have been strictly late game artillery, archers should have had no retaliation or something similar. I bounced from Civ6 after just a few hours. I just wasn't having fun. I don't think I'll be trying out Civ7, the series has moved into a direction I don't like.
I first discovered civ at the civ 3 level. My brother and I played thousands of hours of this game on our family’s PC. We never got the chance to play civ 4 before civ 5 came out and i got that. Didn’t enjoy it as much as civ 3 because of the lack of unit. Stacking and lack of game knowledge overall. I have played a ton of civ 6 and am eagerly waiting for civ 7 which i am sure i will play a ton of. For me Civ 3 was the core memory. Learning as a child and exploring a game with so much to it that replay was the only way to learn. (Before RUclips days) it was great to have to find out on your own what strategies worked and what did not based solely on gameplay experience. I miss those days.
Yes and you could learn and enjoy games for what they were. Now we have endless analysis. Working out what you needed to do in your own bubble was great 😇🚀
I would largely agree with your ranking. My husband and I have been playing the Civ series ever since Civ I, which made our Christmas in 1991. (That and it being our newborn twin sons' 1st Christmas!) Loved Civ II and all of its mods. (Those twin boys especially loved "helping" Mom play the Dinosaurs mod in the Test of Time expansion.) Enjoyed Civ III, but was disappointed at its lack of mod-ability. The Civ IV soundtrack is still superb (and I have a playlist of it saved on RUclips, which makes great "background noise" at work). I've played a lot of Civ V and its expansions (and it's the last one I played a lot of) My husband has played Civ VI, but I mostly have just enjoyed the music (especially the Christopher Tin song based on the Leonardo da Vinci poem about flight). Same thing with Beyond Earth & its expansion: I enjoyed the intro movies and still listen to the soundtrack, but never really got into playing the game. Thanks for bringing back a lot of good memories!
You are most welcome and thanks for sharing yout story with me. There gamed bring back so many memories for me that it was impossible for me to rank them really 😂 it's great to hear they meant as much to other people as they did to us. You comment brought a smile to my face 😃
Civ 4 is still my favorite, but 2 still has plenty of cool aspects that make it worth playing to this day. I need to try to get into 3 more since I didn't play it for very long.
I have been playing ALL CIV titles throughout my life as they are released…for me personally, my best memories are with CIV II & III. But that has more to do with memories, and nostalgia, than actual rankings. My buddy had an Apple Link network setup at his house. We would play 3 person multiplayer games, all from different consoles in the same room. Add a 12 pack of favorite beer and a couple bags of chips and it was GAME ON! Nothing was better than my buddy declaring war against me in whatever accent of civilization he was playing. Good times. CIV fan 4-ever!
I don't think strategy games should be too simple, Civ 6 showed that careful planning and thinking ahead yields massive results, but its not simple. I have played them all, and while I did have an ok time with Civ 5, Civ 6 is just way better. As for the rest, all a place in my heart, particularly Civ 4 for the wonderful music.
I think the past games were not simple but did things more immersivly. Civ VI just missed some crucial flavour and the move to cartoonish graphics was a mistake.
I remember playing Civilization II back in the day. My civilization was way behind on tech. There was a rule you could only steal one tech from one city with a diplomat (spy). So I sneaked diplomats around the world and all at once they stole techs in the same turn. Great times! The videoa-nimated and voice-acted council was also awesome.Maybe corny but I found it really amusing back then. I used to make my own sounds for the game too. You'd hear an air-raid alarm, a voice saying "Bombs gone, bombs gone (got that from a fighter game) and then the explosion. There were also some great scenario's like fighting aliens with much better tech then you, a wwII scenario and one based around Masters of Orion.
For me - I still return to my treasured box-set of Civ 2 …Fantastic worlds / scenarios were incredible and the overall vibe was that of a classic, yes I started in Civ 1 and that was groundbreaking but Civ 2 perfected its formula
Awesome list! My brother never was a Civ player and only knew about the games because I was talking about them all the time. However, he decided to play CIV Revolution and loved it. He spent many hours with the game but he never really got into the proper CIV series of games, but it speaks to the quality of the game that someone like my brother would play a CIV game. CIV II was the first CIV game I ever played and I was hooked immediately. On PS1 I played this game for hours each day and hardly ever played anything else for over a year. To this day I remember the music, the wonder videos, the Advisors and the road spaghetti on every tile. I might have even fallen in love with the foreign advisor, especially when she said that my relations with other nations were "remarkable" with a little curtsy at the end. CIV IV and II are easily my favourite entries in the series and my least favourite is VI.
I went through a period of being completely addicted to Civilisation 2. Entire weeks (months?) of my life have been spent playing that game 😅 I bought some of the subsequent releases but they never gripped me in the same way as Civ2. I even have a 20 year old windows xp laptop knocking around the house with Civ2 installed on it! Incredible game 😍
Excellent list and my own would be very close to yours; only switching Civ V to the 2nd position and Civ IV to the 3rd. I still play Civ V every week. I had forgotten about the Wonder videos in Civ II! Loved those! I also enjoyed building my throne room in Civ II! I'll be 60 this year so this video brought back some great memories! Kudos!
Caveman 2 Cosmos and Rise of Mankind: A New Dawn. Civ IV's modding scene was incredible, and it made the replayability almost infinite! I still fire up Rise of Mankind and C2C when I can.
I am genZ player. So I remember playing the civ 3 at my granfather’s computer but I was like 5-7 y.o. So for me the ‘classical’ one is civ 4. I loved the game and I remember how I hated the civ 5 when it released for lacking so many features or strange mechanics. Today after playing civ V and civ VI with all dlc I can say my ranking is: 1) Civ VI - because I love the complexity of this game and all the planning stuff. It just offers so much more than civ V. I love music, graphics, natural wonders, energy and resources, units and governments. I like eras and casus belli mechanics. Scientific victory is the most interesting in the series. On the bad sides: world congress (yikes), religion (it’s so dull to spread and it gives so many broken buffs) and I don’t like how easily the captured town can work for you although it’s just has been captured 2) CiV V - I love the units and combat, simpliness of the map and how easy it is to read. I like the balance between civs and how they have mang to offer. I love music - some of the best themes of the series. Also I love the tourism mechanics (better than civ VI) I dislike world congress (and religions (same as in VI), ideologies (and random city swapping) and warmongering mechanics. 3) Civ IV I love the culture mechanics and 1 battle - one kill combat. I love the health mechanics, random events, AI difficulty, villages mechanics and farm irrigation. On the bad side for me: global warming, omg I hated the desertification. I hated the death stacks of units and music in modern/ future era. I also kind of preffer units design from civ V/VI
Civ V is my all-time fav, but IV and II were absolute GEMS & I loved them when I was little. So amazing. Still play Civ V every week though, throughout most of any given year. My dream Civ game is a beautiful amalgamation of Civ II, IV, & V. 💜
I love civ 4! Some of the best gaming moments I’ve ever had. Playing it co-op was so fun. Can remember this time my brother and I had to do whatever it took to sabotoge space ship parts to buy ourselves time. One of us focused on that while the other one was taking cities. It was a nail biter.
I’ve played them all and my favorite is definitely VI. Strategic depth and game mechanics. Victory options. More consistent behavior from the AI civs. Really like the districts. 😎
My older brother had civ 2, I played it so much, it was great. From civ 4 onward, the games were mine, and 5 is my personal favourite. For me, the list would go 5, 2, 4, 6, BE
Test of Time is the best. People still make scenarios for it. Too bad 3 failed to include the amazing multiple maps feature. Civ 3 is still the best looking, but the simpler graphical style of Civ 2 is timeless and perfect for easy modification.
I been playing the series since Civ 1 and for me, Civ 6 with all it's dlc is my absolutely my #1. There's just so much to do in Civ 6 with all the dlc, there's so many options. Then it has great graphics and animations, especially the leaders. Wonder videos are absolutely spectacular. I have nearly 500 hrs in Civ 6 alone. I can go on and on about Civ 6, definitely my all time trophy tbs game 🏆
Civ 4 Beyond the Sword is the version I still play today. Civ II definitely was the version that got me hooked and was the greatest for its time. Civ 4 still stands up to every subsequent version.
I'm not sure where I'd rank the bottom 5, but my top 3, in order are: 1. Civ VI 2. Civ V 3. Civ Rev That last one probably deserves some explanation. The game is marketed as a 1 - 2 hour Civ game and it lives up to that promise. I don't play Civ Rev when I want a 10+ hour experience. I play it when I want the feeling of Civ but only have a short time to devote to the game. That latter point matters to me as I get older and my time becomes more limited. The way the game is streamlined is practically perfect and I feel extremely satisfied at the end of a Civ Rev game. I can't always say the same of other Civ games.
My dad might be in to top 5 for most hours played onn Civ 2. He tried 3 and 4 but claims he doesnt like the 3d visuals. He has been playing pretty consistantly since the game came out. He will sometimes take breaks. But usually plays a couple hours every day since it came out.
Played them all since the first, and call me casual, but as an older gamer with an adult life civ revolution is my favorite, streamlined, charming and I can play an entire game in one session. The older the series got the more they lost that original charm. Now it's 2k greedy 100+ dollars, special editions, dlc, season pass...
Civ 2. Back to basics dos game. I finally found a download. Now playing Civ 2 again and on Windows 10 (need DOSbox to run it). Been a very long time since I've played this game I absolutely love. Tried Civ 4 on disc a long time ago but even then Civ 2 was IMHO a better game.
Civ is the dearest franchise to me. I've loved all of them in their time, but I never really looked back, after the new one came out. Partly because I want to master the new/recent one. And, with every iteration civ has become increasingly pretty with lots of attention to detail. Lots of it does nothing for the gameplay but completes the immersion. Every civ game is a representation of an entire world and its looks, sounds and makes it feel like one. These waters in 7 look crazy good. And have you seen the birds? That said, the one that still pulled me back many years later was Alpha Centary and its DLC Alien Crossfire.
I've never played any Civ game before Civ 4. I was a console gamer almost completely until around 2005 or so. But my list would be Civ 4, Beyond Earth, and Civ 5 and 6 tied at the bottom of the list.
Picked up Civ 3,4,5, and 6 in the Humble Bundle and while I've played 3 and 6 and liked them both, now I have a difficult decision of whether or not I should go back to 3, try 4 or 5 since I haven't played them, or stick with the one I know best 6. Lol, I guess I have a lot of Civ to play. Very nice video, it's helping me sort this out.
Mods for Civ IV are just something else. I didn't see such great mods in so big quantity for Civ V and VI. Rhye's and Fall (with modmods!), Fall from Heaven 2, Caveman 2 Cosmos, Realism Invictus, Varietas Delectat and much much more! I didn't play much the base game tbh. I was spoiled by the mods :D Only downside is that the rulers didn't change their appearance each age like in Civ III!
I own them all and still have the pristine boxes and manuals in the attic. My fave is Civ 4 mainly because of the excellent mods available but they are all great
Great list! My favorite was 3 & then 2. I spent a lot of hours on 1 & 2. Never tried 4-6. Need to find a copy of the original Alpha Centurion or give Civ4 a go (you do a good job of selling it)
I never played your 7 and 8 nor the first version of Civilization. From 2 to 5 though I would have matched your list except for 2 being 2nd and 4 being 1st. I am hoping Civ VII will be a return to something more like 2, 3 or 4 when it comes to AI, replay-ability and enjoyment. I do have my concerns but will still be buying it pre-release so I can move forward with the franchise once it's available. I may have to pull out IV before that time though as I've not played it for several years. Thanks for the video!
Civ II is my favorite. I still have the CD. I don't know if it'd run on my computer now. I loved the wonder videos, the throne room, the advisors. Maybe it was unfair to Civ III, but I tried it when it came out and when right back to Civ II. I didn't get another until Civ V. All the world MARVELS at your superior intellect sire.
I played 1-5, played the most of 1 and 2 but I think 3 is vastly underrated. I'd argue it came closest to perfecting the formula created in Civ 1, and with mods is still fun today. 4 and 5 both fall into the sequel trap of trying to be bigger and flashier, they introduced some cool features but for every improvement there was something else from the original formula they made worse. I'll take the straightforward presentation and strategic choices of Civ 3 over the increasingly cartoony graphics and glut of overlapping and contradictory features in later versions.
Great choices! My top 2 are the same as well. I never played the mobile version and civ6, so I don't know how awesome the were, but the rest make absolute sense!
Nice video - I'm glad you put CivIV at the top (childhood nostalgia aside), as it does stand out for its depth and AI. Civ2 was my introduction to the series and was outstanding, but CivIV has the same virtues but more. I bought Civ2 again a while back for nostalgia but sadly the version lacked the High Council videos that were such fun (e.g. the drunken military adviser's "No complaints, noble leader!"). I tried Civ6 and there is so much good stuff in it, but the AI just doesn't seem to know how to use it and seems basically broken (e.g. a Civ with a supposedly warmongering nature never built a military unit). It's strange as Civ has always stood out among complex strategy games as having a competitive AI. I keep coming back to CivIV and making lists of "lessons learnt" about each thing I did wrong that put me behind in each game. The CivIV AI needs only the slightest advantage to romp ahead of me in grabbing land.
Yes it really would! And sweet I like seeing you reasons for your own ranking. I left Nimoy in at the end of the video 🚀🚀
@@Andy.Gledhill.Models. or even a decent box. Going to the PC game store for these was a serious moment 😇😂🚀
I begun with CIv 4 and played both Civ 5 and 6 since then but my favorite remains 5
I agree, CIV 5 is the best.

The Civ 2 advisors were peak Civ
Peak Game 🚀😇
A A A A A
I loved the way the advisors changed over time, from ancient era to modern day.
Still have so many quotes burned into my memory from the videos.
Totally - loved that part of the game.
Those sort of challenges make you appreciate games so much more! Thanks for the comment 🚀
You are my hero
Leonard Nimoy as the narrator on Civ IV pushed it where no Civ has gone before
My favourite Civ II, by a huge margin. I did like Civ V but spent the most time playing Civ II.
Dude, Civ 3 had Drafting units, more government types, slaves, and wartime / peacetime economies. I loved all they did to bring new systems into the game.
They really need to remaster civ 1-4. I feel like a graphical overhaul of all 4 sold in a bundle would be really popular
I like how 4 still looks, there's no confusion on the tiles.
I just want civ1, 2 on steam.
Have you tried the Vox Populi mod?
God I miss that game.
same.

Totally agree.
Too bad it demands 2D-acceleration, that Windows have not supported since Win 7.
Or I would still be playing it.
Oh me too. It is a crying shame that Good Old Games doesn’t carry it.
@@peterkragelund4794 Windows still has DirectDraw support you have to enable it in Windows features.
Google "civ 2 abandonware". Youre welcome.
The civ 2 advisors were a great memory. I love the Elvis guy lol.
Science advisor was great.
My favorite is the military guy.
My favorite will always be Civ 4. I loved the music and look and feel of the game. And how could I forget Leonard Nimoy narrating the game! I also miss from the old Civs where they had "We Love the King Day" and you could upgrade your palace.
Leonard Nimoy is a legend I included him at the very end of the video :)
We love Colonization here and it was featured early on the channel. Really enjoy your ranking and reasoning behind it!
East Wind Rain also. Me and Tom played that one for days! :P
@@LTGamingRUclips Loved that. Just wish there was a mod for it on the modern civ games
I used to play that game just to see how happy your general was when the military was beefed up. That was one happy guy! 😂
Haha these stories are great 🚀🚀 those advisors eh.....Good times 😂
Great list. Civ 5 is the closest to perfect entry for me. Although Civ4 has the most nostalgic charm (it is my most played game of all time!)
Civ 6 was cool, love the district system and the rock bands unit. Exciting times with Civ 7 coming in 2025
Really glad you enjoyed it! I did change the order a few times!
Yes, I loved CIV 5 the most.
I did not like the cartoonist aspect of Civ6 and the goofy comments on the tech development.
@@Zenocrat agree with you and thank you 🚀🚀
We all know if Alpha Centauri counted on this list it would be #1
Civ 2 was my favorite with 4 a close second.
Civ 2 was the best, no question in my mind. Still chasing that high after nearly 30 years.
Its an endless quest to ever get back to it 🚀
Civ IV is at the top of my list, especially with the mods available. It's the one that I still come back to all the time.
@@dh8203 its also the one that tops many peoples lists! Just for me it was timing and memories 🚀
Good to hear someone defend VI. It just had too many issues for me. I have 200 hours in it though :)
i agree dude, its the only one ive played where it wasnt constant war. that being said, theres not enough war, it seems like the AI never declares on me
Been playing since Civ 1 when it was released and this is my favorite PC gaming strategy series of all time.
Two honorable mentions:
1.5 SMAC - Holy hell this game has never been equaled.
Really great list and enjoyed your reasoning behind it 🚀
Way back then there were three PC games you could find in a gas station in the small jewel cases. Diablo, Doom, and Civ 2.
Civ II is Awesome and it was the GOAT. Argument for CIV IV also to be at number pone but you gave your reasons! Awesome overview.
CIV II with the fantastic worlds mod was maybe the best, or at least tied for best.
You've got it right. Civ II is the GOAT!
@@digitalvictory8266 yeah baby 🚀🚀🚀🚀
Civ Rev got me into the franchise. Will always hold a special place in my heart.
CIV 5 all day long
Too bad the bugs are so hard to live with...
Also, the series is as old as I am, so I am def a little biased.
I started with the first Civ Revolution on PS3, but Civ 5 is my personal favorite 25 is my age
My ranking would be (of the original ones that I've played):
1. Civ IV
2. No One
3. Civ III
4. Civ I
Civ II was brilliant and that council made me laugh ah good times!!😂
Civ 4 tech quotes > All
Included one at the end 🚀😇
@@LTGamingRUclips I love the graphics. Better beautiful "cartoonish" graphics than unrealistic "realistic" graphics imo.
I remember playing that Civ2 tutorial over and over again... got owned by Sitting Bull every damn time
Always Civ IV for me! The vibes and soundtrack that game gives is unmatched!
My top 3
1. Civ IV
2. Civ 2
3. Civ 1
Definitely agree with the bottom two.
It's like this channel was custommade for me. I love it!
We appreciate this comment a lot 🚀
So awesome the memories we have of this 🚀
For me - I still return to my treasured box-set of Civ 2 …Fantastic worlds / scenarios were incredible and the overall vibe was that of a classic, yes I started in Civ 1 and that was groundbreaking but Civ 2 perfected its formula
Amazing that you still have it!
CIV II will always have a special place for me :)
I miss leaders changing looks with each era. That was so cool to see. They never did it since civ 3
They did it on BE.
Civ V is my fav!
We totally align :) glad to hear it!
Kudos!
Glad you enjoyed it! You can get the Civ II throne room mod in Civ V :)

Civilization IV with Caveman 2 Cosmos was something... epic. Never experienced such deep civilization game before.
Civilization IV would arguably be at one but for my fond memories of II :)
Today after playing civ V and civ VI with all dlc I can say my ranking is:
1) Civ VI - because I love the complexity of this game and all the planning stuff. It just offers so much more than civ V. I love music, graphics, natural wonders, energy and resources, units and governments. I like eras and casus belli mechanics. Scientific victory is the most interesting in the series.
On the bad sides: world congress (yikes), religion (it’s so dull to spread and it gives so many broken buffs) and I don’t like how easily the captured town can work for you although it’s just has been captured
2) CiV V - I love the units and combat, simpliness of the map and how easy it is to read. I like the balance between civs and how they have mang to offer. I love music - some of the best themes of the series. Also I love the tourism mechanics (better than civ VI)
I dislike world congress (and religions (same as in VI), ideologies (and random city swapping) and warmongering mechanics.
3) Civ IV
I love the culture mechanics and 1 battle - one kill combat.
Civ3 ❤
I love civ 4! Some of the best gaming moments I’ve ever had. Playing it co-op was so fun. Can remember this time my brother and I had to do whatever it took to sabotoge space ship parts to buy ourselves time. One of us focused on that while the other one was taking cities. It was a nail biter.
I played the Civilization series since Civ 2 came out. This is exactly how I would rank the games. Hehe. Great minds think alike.
🚀🚀🚀🚀
I’ve played them all and my favorite is definitely VI. Strategic depth and game mechanics. Victory options. More consistent behavior from the AI civs. Really like the districts. 😎
My older brother had civ 2, I played it so much, it was great. From civ 4 onward, the games were mine, and 5 is my personal favourite. For me, the list would go 5, 2, 4, 6, BE
Civ 2 for me ,good video I agree with it .2 had easy unit designs and editing. Loved advisors, and demographics.
Great choice and great to see Civ II and its influence!
I'm not sure where I'd rank the bottom 5, but my top 3, in order are:
1. Civ VI
2. Civ V
3. Civ Rev
That last one probably deserves some explanation.
I got every achievement in Civ Rev and have so many hours on 6 love these games
You have Civ: Beyond Earth, but SMAC is my favourite of them all. The added RP lite elements made it super fun for me.
Civ 4 is the best !!!! I still remember the joy when I first beat emperor difficulty in civ4 (without world editor :) )
Finally a ranking list that pretty much reflects my feelings too. I’d only probably swap the top 2 entries, putting Civ 4 on top 😊
I've never played any Civ game before Civ 4. I was a console gamer almost completely until around 2005 or so.
But my list would be Civ 4, Beyond Earth, and Civ 5 and 6 tied at the bottom of the list.
I only played Civilization 2 on my i486 computer 25 years ago. I really liked it.
Maybe I will take a look in Civilization 5 or 6.
For me it was Civ 4 until I discovered Civ 5 with the Vox Populi mod.
Just one more turn...
Always!

Been awhile since I played the civ series. Civ 2 was also my civ!
Yes we totally align then! :)
Civ2 was the only one I really got into depths. Civ1 I discovered staying at my uncles. Floppy disc… oh god, the sleepless nights.
Civ II is legendary 😎😎 haha those Wonder videos. Another time 😇
It's too bad you didn't include CtP2 in the list, I'm curious what you think of it. It was one of my favourites.
Playing it this week on the laptop to remember!
Awesome list brother! We really did get our value out of Civ 2 hahaa
Civ 3 conquest the GOAT
