      That's great, be aware that the contact strip on the shutter speed rotating portion can commonly come loose giving false or no readings on the LED's, test a roll of film or against something like a digital and if yours reads accurately you're good to go.
      Hope you enjoy it. The lens is the same as on the B, the Triotar and gives outstanding results.

      Note: the 35 LED is the same as the 35B, except the selenium meter of the B is replaced with a battery powered solid state meter with diode readouts, much like the 35SE & TE.

    Some people look down on the "B". I have one and love it & used to hanker after "real" 35's but no more. With the Selenium meter in the B you have none of the mercury battery (or battery adaptor) problems of the 35. With the B35's more central viewfinder up to your left eye then the winder falls naturally to your left thumb & shutter release to your right finger with none of the left-hand viewfinder/winder conflict of the "real" 35's. You also get the frame counter on the top of the B35's compared to underneath on the normal 35's.
    The B35 is a GREAT economic introduction to the Rollei 35 range (& in some was is actually better) & fully recommended.

    • @spidiq8
      @spidiq8  3 года назад

      I think the B is fantastic little camera with a great lens, the S just has the edge on the glass but the weight difference alone makes the B an easy to pick up and pocket carry round.
      I love the simplicity of use, the only problem with selenium meters, (in all cameras) is if they've not been stored in the dark they lose effectiveness, the good thing is, if they do move, you can test against a known meter and adjust your settings accordingly and you cna easily pull or push in processing.

    I have just bought a Rollei uv filter for it to protect the lens. I don't like lens caps except for storing. Lens caps get lost in when out and about.

    Thanks for the in depth demonstration.
    I’ve had this camera for some years but recently found the shutter speed hard to set. Watching you handling it you either use a finger of each hand from the back or your two thumbs looking from the front. This is what I found best too.
    Gripping the speed dial between finger and thumb makes it too tight to turn.

      @@spidiq8 You would be doing the Rollei owners a huge favour by creating a video with the tight shutter speed dial problem in the title for searchers and demonstrating this method of overcoming it.
      Might save some inappropriate use of the dreaded Wd 40 !
      I’ve recently bought a 35S which is great so was checking the 35B out before considering listing it for sale.

    Hi there, I'm having trouble with my rewind button and lever - the button doesn't stay in when pressed and the lever doesn't "grab hold" of the film to rewind it. Do you have an idea of what might be the problem?

    • @spidiq8
      @spidiq8  5 лет назад

      Is this a recent occurrence? The lever not catching could be damage to the cassette core.
      Best suggestion I can make is to get it somewhere pitch dark, ideal a room with no windows, cupboard etc, open the camera and roll the film back by hand then investigate the internals to see if the release button and winding handle are intact and doing what they should.

    Mine is in need of repair, but I have been told that it will take a donor camera for parts. Since I have two original Rollei 35s and two 35Ss, I have not been in a hurry to find one.
    My Singapore 35S has a polycarbonate instead of metal back and will flex under the weight of a flash. This can cause the flash to lose contact and not fire. If you do not plan on using a flash, either the German or Singapore version will do. If you anticipate using a flash, I recommend looking for a German version.
    BTW, I have owned and been using Rollei 35s since they were first introduced in the US.

    quick question,,
    say Im shooting 400TX black and white, most shots ranging from 10 feet away, with some exceptions, if I just set it to infinity and my speed to 400, am i relatively good? I dont want to have to fiddle with my settings before a photo, because my main subjects are random people who are unaware I am shooting them, so as you would imagine i want to be able to just take a fast photo. is this the right option? ive been shooting with a point and shoot for a while but batteries are such a pain in the ass, I want to try a manual camera that is small and easy to carry around. any other suggestions if this might not be what im looking for?
    thanks

    • @spidiq8
      @spidiq8  5 лет назад +1

      Kind of, but it's not quite that straightforward, for example, if you set the infinity symbol to the furthest dot from the line that will give a good focus range from about 7 feet to infinity at either f8 or f11 if I recall correctly, at the middle dot, from 11ish feet to infinity at f5.6 and using a wider aperture you need to be reasonably on the distance needed but it's surprisingly easier than you'd guess to set this on the fly for impromptu pics.
      The other important thing to remember is that you pre set the aperture and shutter speed for the conditions you'll be shooting in. The top dial is only a 'calculating' device for the settings you set on the focus ring for the two settings.
      once you have that you can take photo's and if you use B&W film and stand develop with RO9 or equivalent you can succesfully pull or push the film speed and get good exposure with shutter / aperture a few stops either way round.

    So, does your selenium Lightmeter function or not? Picking a B 35 up today and idk if the needle works, but we will see. I know it's not necessary but I would like it to function as a package. But oh well if everything else works i would be glad for that little money I'd be spending.

    • @spidiq8
      @spidiq8  2 месяца назад

      The one on mine does but it's been a while since I shot with it and don't recall if it's accurate, if it works you can check the accuracy against a known good camera for example and adjust accordingly, i.e. if it's a stop off you can meter with it and just adjust the shutter or aperture for that one stop.
      It's best to assume that any camera with a Selenium meter nowadays will either be inaccurate or not working and carry a compact meter such as the cheap hotshoe mount ones.
      If your meter does work, to preserve its working status for as long as possible, store it in its case or cover the window of the meter with something opaque if it's on display.

      Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. In the B model like this there is no replaceable battery, the meter uses a selenium cell meter and the batteries are factory fitted, if the camera has been stored somewhere dark it might still be OK but if not it might not operate, you can compare the accuracy if it does work against a light meter or known working camera.

    Very nice job. My grandpa used to have a B35. I have a 35 now. Wish I had the B35, with its selenium cell light meter that doesn't need a battery. I have an adapter for the 625 mercury cell to use the commonly available SR44, but it would be better not to need it. I think I'd gladly give up the shutter speeds below 1/30 sec. for the batteryless advantage. The Triotar lens lens is not quite as good as my Tessar, nor the higher-end Sonnar, but the selenium light meter really seems like a good thing.

    • @spidiq8
      @spidiq8  5 лет назад

      Thanks for the feedback. All these cameras are amazing. I love the B for its simplicity, the downside with selenium cell meters is that if they've been left exposed to light they'll be wildly inaccurate now typically.
      Always double check your exposure reading against a known setting. Even on your cellphone for example to see if it's close enough. If it's a few stops out you can mentally adjust that and still use the meter.
