The art remind us that every person, great or small, is still a human and will age, nothing and no one can beat the flow of time. We as a human is nothing but insignificanr things in the universe but yet we still looking for power that only exist in the fleeting of time.
This work means something a little different to me. It sort of represents the final stage of Erikson’s stages of psychosocial development. The last stage we all go thru in life is either keeping your integrity or falling into despair in your old age. This work shows how that stage manifests in different people, even powerful individuals. Will they keep their integrity and power or will they be dethroned and fall into disparity?
So to give context this is an art installation by Sun Yuan and Peng Yu called Old Persons' Home at the Saatchi Gallery in London, UK. It was initially installed in 2007. And going over previous images and videos it seems that it is had a few visual updates over the years but the core of the piece of work has stayed the same.
Some where it's written that these old men depict the figures of greaty leaders... Anyone to identify these people please?
I think the priest is 'Makarious', from Cyprus. Circa 1950-1970's.
The old guy holding the round brown thing, I think is Fidel Castro. Google the satchi enterprise of this installation. I'm sure it will yield a lot of true information.
BTW 'fidel' look like someone I once knew, who didn't actually have any presence on the world stage. But the resemblance is uncanny.
think i saw muamar ghadaffi, fidel castro and yasser arafat. not sure if these are historical or current figures...perhaps the man in the grey suit is a current chinese leader or even mao tze tung?
This is an installation called "old persons' home". Those are not real people but they are supposed to resemble world leaders.
people love to spend time looking at this art but not visit there grandparents

The last clip is actually from and art installation by Sun Yuan & Peng Yu (who also made Can’t Help Myself) called Old People’s Home. It’s lifelike mannequins of famous world figures as very old people, on electric wheelchairs that slowly move and bump around the room. It conveys that no matter how famous or rich you are, you will grow old and die ^_^

Saw this at the Bourse in Paris - the comments by the artists are that these men are no longer capable of destroying the world anymore. They are just left with their thoughts. Provocative, and very interesting.
every buddy tryna fiure out some deeper meaning to this which is beautiful. But remember reality its just motorized chairs with sensors and dummies in them. But here I will take a crack at what yall are doing.
The wheel symbolize life and how they keep goin forward like wheels do never stopping until breaks are applied, the closeness you feel from seeing the lifelessness of the elderly is something we all live through and will go through, how they never stop just shows how the cycle repeats every day. XP
Are they actual wheelchair users if they not then its offensive as it implies that a wheelchair user can not be powerful, also wheelchair bound is a derogrative term and of course not true
Let's play the "Offended Game."It is growing far faster that artistic appreciation in a political correct charged environment. The rules are simple. Whomever lists the most things about a subject that can possibly offend wins. Since Julie Waterman started off the game, I'll add: 1) I am offended by the Christian Cross. Where is the Star of David represented? 2) I resent the mocking of my gray hair on this installation. 3) These figures all have suits on, seeming to mock retirement homes where retirees are dressed more leisurely. 4) Several figures are depicted with cigarettes which offends me as my mother died of emphysema. Okay I got 4 good ones. So I pass . . . .to the next player.
@@artmolds I'm offended that one of the sculptures has a beer as my father was an alcoholic, and i'm also offended that all of the sculptures are of old people (my great-grandfather died of old age)
@@artmolds cause no one who wears the star of David makes it to old age LOL, stay offended, it's art and everything is shown as it is for a reason, this art was not made For you to he offended.
