jesus after all these years you still cant beat the REAL THING... the sound is so organic, so alive, so delicate from bass to treble... this synth is a real musical instrument on par with accoustic instruments expresivity and tons of character. And thats just presets :o) Never use the presets they say. I would play these presets forever.
I come back to this one quite often, love it as much as the first time I heard it. Thank you. With the sad news of past week, this now also lends itself as a nice and fitting tribute to the late great Vangelis. May he rest in peace.
you are right on sustain 2... (mono/poly) the oscilators rotate within a monophonic envelope and a monophonic modulation modifier ... repeat a note in sustain one while pitch bending the ribbon with a long release... notes only bend while being held down and released notes do not get further effected in bend or filter change.... in sustain 2 they continue to be modified.... chords will be portamento'd into a single note and change in portamento direction half way is possible...
Very nicely done! Your demo reminds me of some of Vangelis's works, particularly from some tracks from his album "Opéra sauvage". By the way, do you plan to upload any demonstrations of the other CS-80 presets?
They should have you compose the music for the new bladerunner 2049 . You are the only one that I care to listen to other than Vangelis for this movie. You really have the soul for this instrument.
It's so authentic! I don't understand how Arturia can make their version completely ass-backwards from a real CS-80, and then call it a "replica". I mean, some of their stuff is great... the Minimoog, the SEM V, are spot on.... but the CS-80? I'd say they missed.
+Alec Lambert Thanks a lot! I did the recording just for putting something on youtube, but it might be an option to put it also on soundcloud. Soon you will get some of my my music here: www.amazon.de/Soundtrack-Musik-H%C3%B6rspielserie-%2522Mark-Brandis%2522/dp/B01B5D3OJE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1455287065&sr=8-1&keywords=mark+brandis+soundtrack
yes... the 2 sustain types function in ways software writers cant seem to grasp... I contacted arturia way back when somone involved in the program writing was a blog member.... I sent him so much information on what was wrong with the CS80v playing experience....that he was greatfull to learn... he was let go shortly after and went to develope different CS80 clone....unforunately, he said the synth designing system wouldnt allow for him to integrate the CS80 logistics in a CS80 cloner....
I, every time to listen to this wonderful sound that you have created, I think also I wonder if this sound that can be reproduced in the synthesizer which you have. Does this sound wonder such CS80 peculiar? I think I want to try this time I will reproduce this sound using the Roland SUPER JX.
+野郎イノシシ You can create this kind of sound with almost every synth that has a pulse width control and some modulation on the oscillator ... and lots of reverb ;-)
+Jochim Redeker Thank you for your advice. In fact, after this writing, I have to try to simulate the tone immediately by using a Roland JX-10. However, the parameters of Pulse Wideth is not provided in the JX-10, the reproduction of this tone for Pulse width is fixed was impossible. JX-10 was the only regret I thought I can play nuances similar to CS80 because there is a velocity and after-touch mechanism. Is a little old synthesizer, I am also owned Roland XP-80. XP-80 is a synthesizer of PCM sound source, but this model is capable of supplying a new waveform with an additional expansion board. In the expansion board called SR-JV80-04 "VINTAGESYNTH", I found a very waveform similar to the square wave of CS80. I would like to try in more of there the machine again.
+Jochim Redeker By the way, this song is your original? It is Japanese, but this song I think that's a great song that also resonate with heartstrings of us Japanese.
+野郎イノシシ Yes, it's a kinda sad with the JX10, but it is a great synth. My first synth was a JX-8P an I loved it especially for the pads, brass sounds and the outstanding choir...
+野郎イノシシ Yes, it's my own composition. I wanted to do a youtube-video, so I had to play a complete piece in realtime. Normally I'm doing lots of multitracking with different sounds. The Japanese-aspect is quite interesting. I didn't expect that, but I like the idea!
Outstanding sound and great to see a CS-80 in spectacular condition like this one. I have the Arturia CS-80V2 emulator for PC and it doesn't come close to the real thing. I'm trying to figure out how to get presets like these on this program. Do you think I would need extra software to assist with making these sounds, or am I not using it correctly. By the way, the short piece you play here is very beautiful.
that is a nice sound. I tended to never use that preset, instead using the Harpsichord or Clavichord more often as starting points. Your piece sounds really, really nice. Is that just one channel of Piano, or two ? Piano preset is only on the top channel, isn't it? I can't quite remember.
I don't know if you've used any external FX, or is it just the CS80... or is it the Vangelis syndrome 🤔 Frankly, maybe it's better not to know the reason why, coz' the magic lasts till you don't know why and how 🤗 one thing is for sure, you can feel this damn synth is so human, so alive ...
30 years? Damn, I would expect you to know the difference. I have noticed that in Sustain type 2, when playing a single not over and over, it will become brighter. Also, unlike a real CS-80, the voice cards don't circulate when playing a single note many times, but only when you play chords. Still, I would take the ME80's sound quality over the Arturia ANY day.
The CS-80V is shit, but rather than leave it at that..... the ME80 (from Memorymoon) is REALLY authentic. I bought the CS-80V, then I discovered the ME80..... my GOD is it good! CS-80 owners on the forums for it agree, it's very good.... and it's $40.00. So....... yeah.... nice n' fat VCOs, unlike Arturia's.... and the parameters are exact, unlike Arturia's where the controls have too wide a range.
they are close... they are not exact.... I have tried the ME80.... it is better than the Arturia, but it is not capturing the portamento and sustain types properly.... I am a CS80 user for thirty years now... I know the difference
Mrfirechild were you able to make that purchase for a "CS-80"???. and if not what would you be willing to offer for a Mint Condition instrument with ALL components replaced (I.E.) power supply, keyboard electronics, etc,Except tone generating chips, oscillators, filters, vca's etc.the instrument has been fine tuned.IF you are interested, you may tender your offer privately to us at our U-tube page, however be advised we are at this time, entertaining 3 other offers.

This is a preset that was used by Vangelis when he composed "Antarctica Echoes". It just sounds exactly the same.
Post more when you feel it.
You definitely have an understanding of this human instrument.
Till then take care.
You deserve this instrument in every way. Awesome.... Bravo.
Beautiful. Both as a musical piece, and a fantastic instrument. Gotta love that CS80 !
That was gorgeous. Great synth and great player.
Absolutely beautiful ! I come here to listen to this piece again and again. You really moved me.
I would pay Vangelis to get him to do another album with the lovely CS-80...
But in the meantime this suits me really fine.
Good job man !
Can't thumbs up this enough. Your playing and the sound of the CS-80, just wow.
Amazing song with amazing mythic synth !
Is this song from something? Can't get enough of it!
Analoque heaven! goosebumps everywhere :)
16 oscillators with a proper human authority just brought a tear (perhaps two) to my eyes. ;)
It's my wakeup tune on my phone. Love the sound
I came here to download the tone for the exact same reason, and I see your comment ❤❤❤😅
Beautiful and the best synth ever made over past 30 years. Chapeau for the man that desing cs80.
I come back to this one quite often, love it as much as the first time I heard it. Thank you. With the sad news of past week, this now also lends itself as a nice and fitting tribute to the late great Vangelis. May he rest in peace.
Right away, it's the sound of Vangelis.
+LouiePlaysDrums
Bingo!
This is an absolutely gorgeous composition, and great tones, too. Well done.
That was really nice. It wandered in a nice way. But it also sort of stabbed my ears too much. A little to stabby.
You immediately recognise the sound like you recognise an instrument CS 80
Vangelis en estado puro.
Ending of every 80s movie...
Beautiful piece of music! I wish I had this instrument, although I'd need to play as well as you also.
So that's the patch Vangelis used for "Hymne!"
So beautiful, please release this track
Beautiful song!
Deeply impressed!
Big is beautiful.
Sounds perfect.
beautiful song.
What a nice texture. Cool chords, really this sound just makes me tingle. Almost ASMRish.,,

very very beautyful. you are talented. thank you for sharing.

Your fault for making me have to have a CS70m. Also just noticed the Waldorf Wave over in the corner!
HEAVEN

can you do a video of funky 1 and 2 with the doctor who baseline?
This is absolutely one of my favorite videos on RUclips. I revisit it often for the song. Do you have recordings of this composition elsewhere?
+Alec Lambert

très joli son.

nice cs80 could you make a track with the cs80 and the vp330 i can see in your video like vangelis !!!! good

Oops, I should have read the PCM91 reverb. Beautiful sound indeed

It's sounds so yummy. I was to eat the sound.

I'll do a cover of this tune and these beasts with the Ultranova (CS80 Piano 5) and the JX-8P for the Matrix 12.
Awesome demo btw!
Those 3 people that disliked this video have horrible taste in music!
Did you use any effects? Sounds gorgeous.
This is a gem. Much worse songs get 2 billion views.
I am looking desperately for a CS-80 that is for sale in Europe... You don´t happen to be in Europe and interested in selling :D
6 years my bro,
U r the CS-80 hero.....
Awesome! what settings are you using on the PCM91. thanks in advance. Keep the videos coming. I could listen to this all day!
+Tim Hawkins
I think it is the Gothic Preset with a much longer release...
can you control the cs80v through ANY MIDI equipped synthesizer?
The CS-80V is shit, but rather than leave it at that..... the ME80 (from Memorymoon) is REALLY authentic. I bought the CS-80V, then I discovered the ME80..... my GOD is it good! hello ,
how do you send keyboard data to your matrix as i don't know a midi kit with key out ...
thks
+Sel Bel
I recorded the Matrix afterward and mixed it to the movie...

Such a shame we cannot reproduce this magic anymore….
vangelis
You e-recycle that gear, you will go to hell... understand?
