In this Slay the Spire gameplay, Baalorlord does an Ascension 20 run with Defect. First, he gives tips on choosing a path and a starting bonus. Later on, he explains his decision for each card he chooses and why it's important to the build. Towards the end, he gears up for an epic Heart fight you don't want to miss. I use a few mods for Slay the Spire. All of them are Quality-of-Life improvements and do not have any effect on the gameplay. Here are all of the mods I have active:

Well, im not very educated person, and that Hypergeometric Calculator is solution for the questions that i ask myself at least few times in month while playing some other games, mostly Path of Exile and STS.

What a crazy difficult run. No average player would get through like Baalor did.

My man’s cited the hypergeometric distribution to win in slay the spire. Truly built different.
its actually very commonly used for calculating probabilities and deckbuilding in tcgs (but you have to memorize stuff for actual games since you cant really use it ingame for obvious reasons)

Act 1 boss: calculating multiple hypergeometric calculations with multiple dependant variables, third act playing cards in obvious wrong order, you can definitely see his confidence increase as the run progresses. 😂
Me after watching a Baalor run: Okay. I feel like I have wisdom. Time to succeed on my A13 Defect run.
Me 20 minutes later: My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

I heard someone fled North Korea to spend the rest of their life playing Slay the Spire... must have been a Defector.
The reason IMO why the Defect is the character that is most suited for boss relic swap is that they have the easiest time compensating for what they lose. Getting health gain for Ironclad, free card draw for Silent and temporary energy for Watcher are all harder to get from card rewards and such than getting orb channeling is for the Defect.
I would personally say that the Watcher has a better time than the defect! But defect would be my number two. Defect benefits greatly from being able to output huge damage through a pre-channeled lightening orb and dual cast
At the beginning of the game, the Defect is essentially half an energy every turn. (it deals half a Strike)
It just get worse and worse as your game goes on, but for those first few crucial fights? Better than the Watcher's relic by pure numbers alone.
I think the Watcher is better off with that trade, and Ironclad is probably the worst off of the 4.
Always sad to see orange pellets without money on defect because biased cog. This run definitely would have killed me.
Man, every combat with this deck from Hexaghost to Collector was like pulling teeth! Then P-Box gifts you a lightning orb deck and the whole feel of the run changed. Way to hang in there Baalor!
Though he won the run, by not playing Meteor Strike at 20:21, he lost in my heart

Initial thought in Act 1 was that this deck was gross to pilot with extra energy/choker/dead branch, but that Hexaghost fight was so cool, love the analysis and working out the odds of killing/surviving. Kind of curious how long it would take AI to figure out that turn haha.

Choker question: if you play 5 cards followed by distilled chaos, does the game stop the effect of the potion after 1 card?
It does stop it. Same for Echo Form, dupe pot, Amplify, Double Tap, or Burst against Choker at 5 cards played or Time Eater at 11 cards played. Basically, you can't ever get away with it.
@@lordruler69 time eater can be slightly cheeseed with a select few cards
@@veptrix2776 yes, I actually recently learned Omni works against Time Eater from Baalor, and you can do stuff with select-a-card screens. This comment was not quite right, though for the average player it's best to assume it's not going to work.
@@lordruler69 yeah it's a niche play, plus honestly I don't like it. I put it in the same category as calling bell save quit glitch. Seems like an unintended interaction, and there are plenty of interesting and complex intended ones.

That hexighost fight was on par with someone trying to solve the monty hall problem
1:22:00 Was there any reason not to play the 2 Strikes, Cold Snap, and Rebound+ on The Collector? If Velvet Choker is at 2 and the outgoing damage is "11 11 11 & 17", is that not at least 61 total (lethal for Collector, and yes it would technically be 63 due to Shuriken)? I just want to be certain I'm doing the math correctly there and not overlooking something. Commenting right as he's making the play but maybe it's mentioned by chat later.

A20 is brutal af! I'm still having difficulty on earlier ascencion levels (on 10 w every character) but your content has made it more manageable. Thank you for the classes, master

She's too big brain and I don't really enjoy playing her ahaha
I just got to 11 on silent. 9 on clad 7 on watcher for a while and recently went fron 3 to 7 on defect. I font see how yall do it all.

I suggest you delete the Guinness world record logo from the thumbnail, apparently they are copyrighting these kind of thumbnails (don't remember where I hear about it just know it was a yt video) so you may get in trouble if you keep it, but then again if that's true I don't know how you have this video with almost a year out with not issues lol
