The characters were supposedly real, but I think it's mostly fictional, just the usual historical time piece, it's really really interesting and sad too

Oh, it is based on real historical events! The characters have kept their real names too. It is the very interesting story of the royal doctor Johan Struensee, who almost managed to take over power in Denmark (and he would have probably done really well too).
