In a town at the far north of the prairies, there is a rule. "Don't go beyond the Pines." Nobody really knows why, but it's ingrained in everyone's psyche. Almost like a compulsion. But over a year ago, an outcast who lived right near the treeline went missing. There was a search party, but it didn't get very far. Everyone moved on and left the outcast for dead.
Everyone but you.
Every night, you go into the woods looking for your lost love. It's a fruitless search. Until tonight, when you go deeper than you've ever gone before. And you finally find the one you've been looking for. She's back, but something's... different. She's changed in a way even she's only just starting to realize.

Nightshade's notes: Man, I am so excited about this one! I really had a blast recording it and letting myself come unhinged. And then every step of the editing process was a whole new chance to stretch my creative muscles. I felt inspired! The art, the audio effects, the little animations -- I put a lot of myself into this, and I really couldn't be happier about how it came out.
Fun fact -- I used a new sfx trick to make my voice sound unearthly, inspired by the sound of the wind, and after I applied it... the usually blocky waveform shapes of my voice were suddenly shaped suspiciously like... pine trees. I'm not kidding. My waveform looked like a pine forest. Timeraft thinks the character is breaking out into the real world, and you're all about to be led away into the forest. But you won't leave me, right? ...Right?

Oh, I loved the haunting, otherworldly tone to this story! I like that, amongst the allure and blossoming romantic overtones, there is ambiguity over whether this lady has been "corrupted" or has simply taken on a new form that may empower her away from her previously lonely, outcast status. 🖤
Almost every Eldritch Lover roleplay ends horribly, so I am so grateful that this one turned out so well. Also, don't worry, characters can't escape their stories. Characters are a part of a story, and are bound by them as man is bound to time. But if it makes you feel better, I have no plans of going anywhere. This is one of my favorite recent roleplays, and I can't wait to see what you come up with next.
Either your sample size of Eldritch RP is tiny, either you don't know where to look because most of the ones I've seen end very well 🤔.
You say characters can't escape their stories, but they're certainly capable of expanding their stories to gain more territory - otherwise I'm certain there couldn't be so many of them living rent-free in my head, not to mention a site like archive of our own couldn't exist. And if she was able to turn my audio waveforms into a pine forest... that's a worrying sign as to how far her story can spread...😁

@@nightshadequeenasmr This gives me an idea to have a King In Yellow ASMR roleplay where you lean into the fact that there are multiple recordings, as if those are all the people who read the play, all affected by the story, almost possessed by it. That would be fun.

Your comment reminds me of one of my favorite movies, In The Mouth of Madness. Just because of that concept of a fictional story and reality itself blending together until it's not clear which one is which. Terrifying, but interesting, much like the experiences of the listener's lost love.
By the way, here's a fun fact. Schenectady, a town in New York state, is named after the original indigenous (Algonquian?) name for the location, which means "the place beyond the pines".

We were both 18 when she vanished. I've spent years searching. Even if it was only to find a final resting place. Even took a job as a park ranger so I could stay out here. You see a lot of weird things out here when the mist comes up quick. You can be on a clear trail that runs right along a road...and end up lost in deep woods. I didn't pay much mind to the tall tales about sasquatch or cryptids beyond how ridiculous the stories would get, and how there were never any survivors, blah-blah-blah. How did the story get out if there were no survivors? Of course, one old fellow that hunts the back side of the mountain mentioned one that he swore he saw. When pressed, he spoke of a young woman with long hair that he only ever saw twice. Each time he had called out to her, only for her to vanish behind a tree. She left no tracks, never spoke, and had a manner I could only describe as "ethereal' from his story. I almost shook him to know where he had seen her. He pointed it out on the big map at the lodge...and now here I am. My heart isn't what it used to be, and my back and knees are not happy with me tromping around out here...and then I heard a voice. It came from everywhere and nowhere at once, and i have to admit it scared me a little. Then she was there. She hadn't aged a day-although her hair was far longer than it had been. It swirled and eddied around her like smoke...or maybe kelp in a slow ocean current. Her kind smile was the same as well, but her eyes had changed; like sapphire pools that seemed to shine with starlight. I guess I'm going to find out where she has been all this time....Wish me luck.

Thank you! The subject of a sequel did come up when I was talking to Timeraft the other day, but I don't think we'll be getting a second script of this one. And as cute as these two characters are, I kind of agree with Timeraft that a sequel would probably ruin the mystery, which is a big part of the beauty of the story. That said, I may or may not have put out feelers about a cute domestic story with an eldritch abomination? No promises, but we'll see! Thank you so much for the comment!

To be honest, I'm almost always surprised that anyone gets it right! I don't think I really give enough detail just from the art most of the time, not when there are so many possibilities out there. At first, I didn't even plan on making it a guessing game, I just wanted to share what I was doing. But the guessing game is fun, too!

All right. Timeraft can write a damn good script. And holy hellfire, but you can voice one, Nightshade. The voice, the emotions, the editing (seriously, the voice modulation was so cool), the words hitting all the right buttons to sound sweet and creepy at the same time... Loved it, and it's reminding me both that I need to get back into Lovecraft and that I can't wait for the next Dresden book to come out.
But... I wonder what would happen... if one brought light to the city... Oh, well, no one would be dumb enough to try that, never mind.

Whenever I hear about "Light Horror", I think back to a moment when I played minecraft awhile ago 😅. I was playing the Awakening modpack. I was walking in the fog when suddenly, an eldritch creature attacked me. It killed me in 2 hits before I could even react. Scared the shit out of me then, and I still remember it to this day 😂.

Eldritch is what I've been waiting for, now for the real dommy mommy stuff

But what if you are not afraid of the abyss, what if for you the darkness is a refuge and not a terror? What if you don't fight monsters, but you love someone enough to become a monster yourself? What if one day the abyss looks at you... with love?
Does this mean that you betrayed humanity by throwing away your previous life? But humanity doesn’t care about you; what’s more important is whether you betray yourself. Will you turn away from your beloved now that she has changed? And are you ready to follow her and change yourself?
A wonderful creation. My favorite video used to be "Dancing with a Mysterious Stranger", also by Timeraft. But now I have two favorite videos. And although they are so different, they have something in common, something that is not so common in ASMR. Something that is not easy to do. Special ethereal beauty, poetry, mystery. The feeling that you have touched eternity, frightening but also so alluring.
I love monster girls, and most of all I adore the ones called Eldritch. There's so much you can do, both in terms of story and sound effects. And you did!
It's done very well. Instead of raw outright horror, you feel this slight sense that something is wrong. This feeling grows, intensifies, and turns into an understanding of the scale of what you are faced with. It’s not something that you bring to your home and watch TV together while sitting on the couch, and tomorrow you continue with your normal life. And this is not something you can fight against, it’s like fighting the wind or waves in the sea, it’s a cosmic force that is simply on a different level of existence. This is an opportunity, this is the moment of truth, a turning point.
This is a test of yourself.
I don't think this will suit most people. Normal people want everything to be normal. But they want a girlfriend to be added to their normal life, without changing the normality and regularity of life. Everything will change anyway, whether you like it or not. But still, in such a story, the stakes are higher, and I think that for a real beautiful love story between a man and _such_ a monster girl, this person must be not entirely ordinary.
I really like what you did with the sound effects and your voice. I think this fits perfectly here. It created the right feeling and atmosphere.

Not gonna lie I was worried she might have been the voice she heard in the woods and it had just taken a form we would feel at ease with so it could claim us as well. Usually whenever I heard about a eldritch they can’t be around humans without killing them or driving them crazy because they are children of horror, darkness and insanity. So I was a little surprised she could touch us without their being a consequence but I like monster girls. And if I was that in love with her to keep looking for so long I’m not going to suddenly give up just because she’s no longer human.

You know what nightshade you make me want to call Nintendo of America and put out a helmet request to do a remake of legend of Zelda Twilight princess for the Nintendo switch cuz you sound a lot like midna she was always my favorite character but it was sad that I found out that when she passed on the liver power or got power from Zelda to keep her alive she necessarily lost her powers even though she gained Zelda's abilities but she was no longer of the Twilight realm

TBH I prefer Your "natural" voice, oh Queen. Though I understand it was kinda necessary to portray the characters voice as ethereal and otherworldly but still, I think digital filters or effects take away some of its intrinsic depth and beauty and flatten it. Not that I did not enjoy the audio.... just IMHO experience shows that You can make Your voice magical enough without artificial additives.
