  • Worry that you will need to survive on cold sandwiches from 7-11 when travel to Copenhagen during the long public holidays? Worry not as Tivoli Food Hall, the food heaven is operating even on public holidays and is accessible without a ticket to Tivoli. You can
explore more food selections in the Tivoli Theme-park including the Christmas stalls in Tivoli Christmas Market (18-Nov til 31-Dec).
Check out my Boxing Day's Food Hunt @ Copenhagen.
I started off my food hunt with a bowl of hot rice pudding (risengrød) with butter and cinnamon sugar at the Tivoli Market. Risengrød is the traditional Christmas dish or dessert in Denmark.
The next stop was Tivoli Food Hall for lunch. My first pick went to the roasted chicken with baked potatoes as I was not getting enough of roast goose (gåsesteg) during Christmas eve (juleaften). The mulled wine (gløgg) is not to be missed too during this time of the year. It is a perfect drink to keep you warm in the cold winter days. Besides smørrebrød, burger and pizza, international selections such as ramen, sushi, burritos, kebab etc are available too.
I missed the crispy skin of flæskesteg, so I popped-by the Hjulkøbing restaurant in Tivoli for a bite of roast pork sandwich (Tivoli flæskestegssandwich) as afternoon snack.
For dinner, I opted for KFC, purely to experience the Japanese way of celebrating Christmas - Kentucky for Christmas! It is a tradition in Japan to eat KFC on the Christmas day.
I wrapped up the day with æbleskiver aka pancake puffs as dessert. In Denmark, æbleskiver are common at Christmas and are normally enjoyed with gløgg. (I skipped the gløgg due to alchohol overdose).
The great Christmas decor at Hotel D’Angleterre, Strøget, City Hall Square, Nyhavn, Kongens Nytorv etc are something not to be missed during Christmas!
