I bought this bag a while back too. I'm in your same boat that the case the deck came with is fantastic but you can't do much else with it. This one allows me to carry everything I'll need. Love it.
If you had a grip case installed like Skull & Co would the analog still be safe inside the bag? My gripe is that the case is too small for the Deck if it has a grip installed.
I bought this bag and had to return it... thought it is nice, it is not great if you are a minimal traveler like me. The Killswitch front cover and compatible grip case is my preferred travel setup since I'm always bringing a backpack.
Been a fan of Tomtoc for a while. I got a backpack that's a similar style to the Steam Deck bag and it's been great for my commutes. Glad they are getting more attention.
I bought one of those. I know the brand has a good rep. But I returned it almost immediately. It just didn't have enough room for my accessories (the only reason I want to buy a different case than the stock one.) Mouse + Charger + Dock + Controller + Battery + HDMI and a couple USBs. It was too much to stuff in there.
I have that bag for my switch and I love it. It’s the absolute best for an airport because you can toss your phone and battery bank in there. I’ll be buying this one, and using it for times where the main case isn’t enough space.
Bought the slim fit one, they still had 3 of those in Europe so I really happy that I was able to get one. Looked for case like this since my SD arrived in September and because of how big og case was - I wasn't able to take it with me even once, now it will change, thanks for recommendation
If there's one major point about the provided steam case that I feel like folks overlook, it is; it survived *fedex* shipping. Like outside of the shipping box, the only protection the Steam Deck comes in is the case. And I (so far) haven't heard of a steam deck coming to a person damaged. So that's a high bar for any other manufacturer to meet.
I saw the title and knew it was the Tomtoc. Such a great bag. I recently picked it up as part of my travel setup and I really like the strap that allows it to slide over my rolling luggage handle.
Surprised it took you this long to review this one! Quality content as always. Fun to see you add the content of showing similar tomtoc bags and how they fit other devices
I've had this same bag for many months, and I 100% agree with the need for extra handles on top to easy grab and go. When the top is open, it tends to want to hang out more, making me want to either grab both ends of the open zipper or close it and move it. Not a big deal in a realistic sense, but would be a major quality of life improvement, moving the bag around the house since I keep all of my great for the SD in it.
Have used this bag for around one month. Never used the official case since I bought this! The problem with the official case is that it's so big to fit in many backpacks. With this bag, at least you have a solution to carry the Deck with you elegantly.
I actually recently used this case on my wedding trip to Hawaii! Although I didn't use it for a steam deck, instead it was used to carry my Nintendo Switch but with the NYXI Athena joy-cons attached. One thing I found was that the protection was actually better if you flipped the device the opposite way from how you put your steam deck in. Even with the device facing the back the thumb sticks hardly touched the back of the case, the screen had more padding for extra protection, and the grips fit perfectly into the W of the case divider. With the switch in this way I found I could still fit a lot in the case namely; A switch pro controller, an official charging brick, a cartridge/SD card case, and a mini dock with HDMI cable. All in the main compartment. I also even had two of my prescription bottles in there for easy access when traveling. While having room to spare still! The reason for the Steam Deck case instead of the switch one was for the fact that the same made case "for switch" was actually SMALLER dimension wise than the steam deck one. I bought this specific Steam Deck one because I couldn't even find the large one for the switch that you showed in the video over a month ago when I was looking. They only had the small Switch one in the same style and the larger Steam Deck one. 11/10 I would recommend this case to use with a Switch if you have bigger joy-cons like the NYXI ones, or even the official Hori split pad ones. Thanks for the amazing content though Russ! Love your videos! :D
"You're not going to be able to put the kitchen sink inside of it, but you'd be surprised by how much it holds." - Russ 2023 I'm gonna start using that saying from now haha.
Looks like a really nice bag minus those strap clips, they're sturdy enough, but I've had that kind of clip snag on things and open up on me. I'd like to see a work/play combo that tailored to fit a 14-15" laptop, a deck, and all the associated accessories. The factory case is a little thick to fit in a laptop bag.
tomtoc also makes molded, hard plastic controller cases for Switch Pro, PS5 Dualsense, and Xbox Series pads that are amazing. big fan of their products and overall quality.
Currently in Hawaii for business and I brought my steamdeck 😂 I debated on bringing the exact sling or backpack but decided on backpack because of other tech I brought.
I've got a decent hardshell, antitheft backpack that I use for my Surface Pro 9, there's loads of room in there for the Deck in the case valve provided. One of these smaller pouches would be useful for a "go bag", a dock, cables, PSU and a controller.
Great video! 3:07 on the website it shows that the steam deck can go facing away or towards that big pad. I chose the latter because I found the "W shape" padding can shift side to side and push on the sticks. This happened when I put some items in the pocket area that the "W shape" creates. Also, the "W shape" is not connected to the bottom of the bag allowing things to go under it and possibly scratching or pressing into the screen. So I just feel a little safer turning the Steam Deck screen backwards toward the thick padding. 10:01 Yes, you are correct when saying that is for luggage and it works great for that. 10:09 You are correct again when saying that is for clutching the bag. However, for me it is not that ideal for me because it does tie up one of my hands. This causes me to use the shoulder strap so I just use the shoulder strap at all times. 11:35 The deck is a better fit it you turn it backwards. The padding helps to keep the sticks free. 14:26 Put in the Vita and the two cartridge card holders which can fit Vita cartridges as well
Been meaning to pick up one of their slings for a while. Hesitate because I remember how lame fanny packs were growing up, even if they're coming back and can now be draped along the shoulder.
The one thing I don't like about a standard bag coming with devices is that people can easily know that you are carrying that electronic, and thus become a target for theft. So a lot of the time I prefer some bag that isn't as standard or obvious to avoid people recognizing what I am carrying. Same reason I don't actually use a camera bag for my camera, I use a backpack with special inserts instead.
I’m gonna come out looking like a sponsored comment or something but I swear I’m just a random shill I’ve had this case for several months and you can actually fit the steam deck with the killswitch case with travel cover in it perfectly (although it fits even better if you put it in facing backwards) Killswitch + tomtoc bag is for sure an endgame steam deck travel setup, tons of protection and room for accessories. Pairing with that case with that larger switch tomtoc bag might be a good option as well to protect the joysticks
Got this case recently in the UK, ir was on a really good deal an had an eye on it for a while. Also have a tpu case with kickstand on the Steam Deck so it snug but fits well. Great case to keep all accessories together. May mod it with metal carabiners and possibly add a strap...
I can also fit my steam deck with the Jsaux protectice case, including front plate for every protection when not in the bag. Nice little bag thats looks good and well designed. Would also like another bag that has good protection that can fit more stuff in it as an alternitive. Have found 1 advertised but I think they took it down from amazon for some reason.
Very nice now that I have a job been working 3 months I might grab a steam deck this fall. For a future vacation trip to Dallas Texas next Fall and I might pick up a steam deck this Fall.
WOW, I have one of those Tomtoc cases as well, that I bought for the Switch Lite that I never actually got because I opted for the Deck instead. But I loved the design and look of the case, so I guess I'll sell the Lite one I have, and get the slim version for the deck. It's out of stock currently, so hopefully it restocks at some point, as these cases are great.
I purchased one of these cases shortly after getting my Steam Deck and It's a very well made protective case that holds just about everything you might have for your deck. The only downside is if you happen to have a silicon case on your SD, hopefully it's a thin one.
That strap on the back is for grab and go, the actual shoulder strap loops are on the sides under the zippers. They’re really small, but all the recent RUclips reviews I’ve seen, people are using that back strap as the shoulder strap loops. I think the loops are there just to remove stress from pressing the analogue triggers inside the bag if that makes sense.
Hi Giles, I thought the same thing at first, but the carabiners do not fit inside those small loops under the zippers. I believe those are for adding little accessories to the bag, like what is popular in Asia.
@@RetroGameCorps I currently have mine in those loops, but I went to look at the promotional material on Amazon and their website and sure enough, you’re right!
Russ, you gotta try it with the screen against that padding on the back. The photos show what you did but they have illustrations showing the grips pointing into the “W” and the joysticks pointing into the back. If I had to guess; the photos are influenced by people who worried about the joysticks being damaged. Which I don’t think is a concern. Can you show the switch bag with the steam deck with the screen pointing back? Please do a short!
How rigid the middle M shape is? Will it squish down or protect joysticks if the bag happens to end up at bottom of bag pile with weight on front or back? Horizontal strap on shoulder bags are sometimes used for back lights or reflectors when biking.
We are just one step closer to the cheesy dad fanny pack, woot!... Tomtoc you're up! Let's go! Nicely done Russ! You have my bow. Nice work Tomtoc! This is your mojo, excellent premium cases with practical design and innovative!
Great video man! would you recommend using the SD bag for the Aokzoe A1 pro? I bought the new waterfield SD magnetic case, but its already just too tight of a fit when testing it out with my switch and my power bank together( dont have a1 pro yet). If i do decide to buy this case, ill have the a1 pro, power bank (about the size of a nintendo ds xl), a standard size usb hub, a baseus power brick, and some cables. Im thinking all of it would probably fit rather comfortably, but just wanna ask you because watched your a1 pro review and maybe you've slipped it in this particular case haha
Can the W protector in the bigger bag be removed? I have a killswitch case, so im not to worries about the sticks. I would like to carry a small hydroflask with me when i go out though. Removing the w protection pad would make that doable
TomToc makes GREAT cases. However, I only use/trust chrome industry bags these days. A nice case for the deck, and then throwing it into a chrome bag is the best way to go imo.
I like the tomtoc brand but I don't think they are right for me. Looking for a waterproof easy carry with space for the AC plug and protects the deck in full
Great video! I think I'll just stick with my Waterfield City Slicker, but it's a tight fit with the dbrand Project Killswitch case attached. Good to see more options coming out and some competition in the accessories space. Tomtoc is definitely great bang for the buck.
The big miss here for me is that it’s missing a quick grab handle on top - that handle could be used to use a carabiner to attach it to my other main bag.
I own am MVRPDXC Bag for my deck. It's not as good of a quality bag, but it has a slot for a must have BASEUS 65W power block. I did not see you put in a block. 👍🏼
This looks good. Can the W protector be removed? I want a bag that I can use as a normal day to day bag but also something that could carry the steam deck when I want to.
I really want Tomtoc to make a sling bag for the Steamdeck. Sure, this bag works, but I don't want to get hassled by family members asking me about my man purse if I were to get one of these. Hey Russ! Do you think any of these bags/cases would work with a Vita and the JEC grips you reviewed a while back? I really dislike not having a good option that lets me keep the device in the grips while travelling.
@Russ: Do you happen to have the Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 with it's bag (that carries all the swappable triggers and buttons) and if yes, does that fit where you put your Xbox Controller in the video (but you did it without a bag of course)?
I have been eyeing this for the Asus ROG Ally. Do you think it will work even though the ROG Ally has a slightly smaller form factor than the Steam Deck?

Russ, you’ve quickly become one of my favorite RUclipsrs. Thank you for your diligent and consistent high-quality content!
I bought this bag a while back too. I'm in your same boat that the case the deck came with is fantastic but you can't do much else with it. This one allows me to carry everything I'll need. Love it.
I love your aesthetics: Your room, your channel, music, your verbal presentation, etc.. All on top of the excellent information.
I have this case, and I love it.
For the record, I also have the DBrand killswitch and it fits well in the Tomtoc Deck Sling.
If you had a grip case installed like Skull & Co would the analog still be safe inside the bag? My gripe is that the case is too small for the Deck if it has a grip installed.

Just bought it with your code and coupon. Thanks for the review!

Clearly not a product for everyone but for the people it's marketed to, it seems like a great option
This video is absolutely amazing, this is what I wanted to know these few day when I finally got my Ayaneo 2 geek!
Just ordered one. This tomtoc bag is exactly what I'm looking for for my Steam Deck for the rare times I travel.
This looks so much like a Peak Design bag, and that’s not a bad thing considering I doubt Peak will make a device-specific bag line.
Thank for being eloquent and emphatic
Just got this in a couple days ago, love it. Is now my man purse, with or without the deck on me.

This bag is a great item at an unbeatable price. ❤

Use the Tomtoc for my Odin and it's fantastic! Took on a recent trip and it held up perfectly.

For sure needs a handle. I look forward to that slim case review as I love slim form fitting cases.

Reminds me of the bag I used to carry my game gear in.

I have a couple of their sling bags and the quality and price is well worth it!
The Tomtoc Switch cartridge case looks like it can be a great case for a large number of devices. I'm thinking about getting one for my GPD Win2.
I love the clopping sound the Deck case makes when closing. Just saying
Tomtoc is awesome! I use their sling everyday and it’s a fantastic value compared to the competition.

i've been loving the DBrand cover. I just snap it on and throw it in my daily bag or whatever
Perfect for Ally plus accessories
I’m looking for a carrying case that also can fit an iPad mini and 2phone. I wonder if this will fit?
wish they had the cute pink colors too :P

Nicely done Russ! You have my bow.
Nice work Tomtoc! This is your mojo, excellent premium cases with practical design and innovative!
the tomtoc sling bags are amazing i ues them when i travel out of contry
Great video man! would you recommend using the SD bag for the Aokzoe A1 pro? I bought the new waterfield SD magnetic case, but its already just too tight of a fit when testing it out with my switch and my power bank together( dont have a1 pro yet). If i do decide to buy this case, ill have the a1 pro, power bank (about the size of a nintendo ds xl), a standard size usb hub, a baseus power brick, and some cables. TomToc makes GREAT cases. However, I only use/trust chrome industry bags these days. A nice case for the deck, and then throwing it into a chrome bag is the best way to go imo.
Which of the chrome bags would be good for the deck?
Will the back strap fit around luggage handles securely when traveling?
I love that TARGET shirt!
Have you tried putting the Steam Deck inside the bag with the JSAUX/DBrand Travel Cover?
I like the tomtoc brand but I don't think they are right for me. Looking for a waterproof easy carry with space for the AC plug and protects the deck in full
What's even better is to buy a lanyard case for the steam deck and use the original case with the lanyard.
Oh nice it’s available in the UK
Great video! I think I'll just stick with my Waterfield City Slicker, but it's a tight fit with the dbrand Project Killswitch case attached. Good to see more options coming out and some competition in the accessories space. Tomtoc is definitely great bang for the buck.
The big miss here for me is that it’s missing a quick grab handle on top - that handle could be used to use a carabiner to attach it to my other main bag.

@12:32 Will the Odin 2 fit on this 38$ Tomtoc (the smaller version) ?
I really want Tomtoc to make a sling bag for the Steamdeck. Sure, this bag works, but I don't want to get hassled by family members asking me about my man purse if I were to get one of these. Russ looks great with it, but my family would give me just as much flack as what Joey on Friends got about his brand new bag.
I have that Switch case and love it

I assume the compartment for the switch (the W shape slot) should have the same size.

Hey that tontoc hard case look good for the win4 or the medium case with strap
I wonder if this will fit the asus ally I think it would (if memory is correct the alley is smaller than than the steam deck
Tomtok is legit, i have their switch OLED case
But my question is... Does it work fine with the Killswitch case?
Would the deck fit in there with the kill switch cover?
It would be great if it had different colours would be more like a fanny pack and comes with a matching fedora
