Bob is evolving into an archetype for me. I just went to Japan myself and as I was packing my bag, I was wondering what kind of crap Bob would bring and what of that technology would F*** him over. I went all the way to Japan and Thailand with just a switch OLED and it gave me everything I needed.
I always do this aswell, I pack 300 gadgets that I might want to use on the trip... And always ending up just playing the Switch. I only wish it had more Streaming apps like HBO, but I can always use my phone for that. I still think that Switch is the perfect entertainment device 6 years into its life cycle.
I was suckered into getting a wireless charging stand for my phone. I thought I'd never use it and just ended up using the regular charger instead. But there was one time I brought it with me to a hotel I stayed at, and I was getting tired of holding onto my phone while watching a video or a movie. I then brought out the charging stand and laid it on its side on the charger. Lol, it was an "Oh duh" moment, but it was also a huge game changer for me 😆
@@marqz900it runs an amazing amount of games for how outdated the technology is by now, it was 7 years ago and its still kicking, shows just how much games can truly be optimized
This man brought all of his tech over seas lol. I would have prob just brought my switch and be like yeah that's good for me. Then again he has lots of filming to do so that makes sense
I love android ports on my Odin. GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas run amazingly well on powerful hardware like these android gaming devices. And they're so cheap (at least they were when I bought them a few years ago). Terraria is one of my favourite games and having it on android is a nice little fix for me.
Starfield worked offline here for me on gamepass as well just make sure you set it up for offline mode in the settings of gamepass and worked fine for a week away.
Just posting to say thanks again Bob for the video on the PS5 remote play, been playing Spider-Man on my PS5 via Steam Deck and saved myself ~$100 rebuying it on Steam!
Though I don't travel outstation as much and only owns a Switch, I enjoy these kinds of review vlog videos for their calm vibes they give. Would love to visit Japan someday.
Been living vicariously through yours and E's updates. What a blast. I named my first son Fox after experiencing the Fushimi Inari shrine in Kyoto. Trying to get back there next year. Cheers!
I travelled to Japan for 2 weeks early this year. Took with me a N3DSXL, my OLED switch and a DS Lite. and a bunch of games...Ended up playing nothing because that country is amazing LOL And bought a Switch Lite in the Tokyo Nintendo Store because the yen is MAD CHEAP.
Hahahah you’re awesome - that’s how you travel in style I hope to run into you - since I’m in Kansai. You’re a good man- saved me a lot of money during the smash controller freak outs days-hope you have tons of of fun here
I absolutely love this sudden influx of Japan travel vlogs from some of my favorite RUclips gamers! I feel like I missed something though - Metal Jesus Rocks, Wulff Den, and Beat 'Em Ups all in Japan at the same time recently... was there some sort of major convention there or something?
I would love a video (podcast?) with you, Wood, Hannah, whomever about your trip. My wife and I want to visit Japan someday for our late honeymoon whenever we can afford it and I’d love your input on your experiences, where we should go, etc.
Ahh yes another Wulff Den video, finally so much has happened I can't wait for the next Pod episodes. Also this video comes just in time for me to go on my honeymoon cruise next week
So excited to hear about your experiences in Japan! I'm trying to plan a trip there next year, i would love a tips and tricks video on what you would recommend and what works well for you. enjoy the trip! cant wait to see the videos!
The internet requirement for the first boot on Steam needs to go away. I hate having to start up EVERY game I think I'm going to play before going on vacation in preparation. And god forbid you do find some extremely slow hotel Wi-Fi and your games start automatically downloading huge update files, because you'll be required to completely install the update and boot the game before playing again. I went overseas one time and when MGSV started an automatic update I wasn't able to play the game for at least a week while some GB's huge update file downloaded at 100KB/sec.
I really enjoyed this vid! I think I’m gonna get me that Tom toc bag. It’s dope The SD card issue on the ally really only affected the launch units and was an issue with the motherboard, not heat. Thankfully ASUS rma is a super fast turnaround. Mine took 2 weeks. And the new units on sale now have the new board.
The Satisfye grip you're talking about, the Ronin, is definitely a cool grip and I even got one myself because I like using a grip when playing Switch in handheld mode and I wanted a grip that still allowed me to dock the Switch. THE PROBLEM with that grip is that, if you dock the Switch with the grip on it, it completely blocks the USB ports on the side of the dock. So, they're now completely unusable while the Switch is docked. If you have the dock that comes with the Switch OLED, like I do, then there's not an extra USB port on the inside to use instead, since that was replaced with an ethernet port. So, if I still want to use my USB ports on the Switch to keep my controllers charged, I'm back where I was before getting the Ronin where I had to remove my Switch from my grip each time. So, that completely defeated the purpose of why I got the Ronin. I wanted to be able to keep my Switch in a grip and be able to dock it without having to slide it in and out of a grip each time, but I can't do that. I recommend people keep that in mind before getting the Ronin. It's obviously not the end of the world because the Switch Controllers, like the Pro Controller, can be charged using other USB ports you may have. You don't NEED to have them directly plugged into the Switch to charge them. Still, I wish I would have thought of it before getting the grip.
I ran into the micro sd card issue once out of 20 different dedicated cards. It’s a windows and Steam issue, just make sure to limit your Steam download speed to 10-15mb/s. Thermals could be a factor with the card reader itself.
grips are obviously pretty great for certain games on the switch. This also may just be the size of my hands talking. But the switch OLED feels amazing on its own without any type of grip or "pro" joy-cons. Idk why people hate on the all natural switch really.
Great video on your travel items. Would love to see a longer video about the camera set up you have, personally would like to get inspiration or to copy a set up.
Hey I'm in Japan right now as well! Will be in Kyoto next week :) And um... Yeah might have already bought some GameCube stuff and OSTs and other little bits here and there...
Oh hey if you haven't went into your settings on the Xbox app in the Ally you can actually set it to play the games offline you can only set up two consoles in that manner but you are able to play starfield offline
Welcome to the Fuji family Bob. If you have not tried the "reggie Porta" recipe from Fuji weekly, i defiantly would. If you picked up a gfx 100II before your trip it would have had anamorphic de-squeeze built in. Its a chunky boy for sure, but small for the gfx line. it also has modes to crop to full frame, super 35, cinema super 35, aps-c and a bunch of anamorphic compressions like 1.3, 1.33, 1.5, and 2x. If the weather here in nj was not such shit i would be out shooting with it now.
My IPS gba sp with it's nuclear reactor battery life would withstand being in the Amazon jungle at this point, that thing can hold a charge for ages, even with all this tech that thing is a beast for offline play
Dude is dropping big bills to stay in that hotel room. If I had the cash I would too, it's very cool to be able to say you stayed at the original Nintendo headquarters.
I would be interested in your tips regarding traveling to Japan and seeing some sights in general. My son and I are going to visit Japan next year. What are some things you have learned that could help us? I remember you saying you don't read the comments, so I'm not sure why I asked this. Maybe someone else in the comments section can help?
Bro get yourself a hotspot. All those always online games require is basically a ping to the server. It's not a cumbersome data stream, so a phone hotspot can easily meet those requirements.
I was wondering if you would be interested in purchasing or reviewing water fields Sutter Tech sling bag, probably the larger size. It’s an awesome bag. Yeah, it’s a little pricey around 200 or so but it looks like you could fit you perfectly.
We are going to try and go in june next year but im worried i cant go without a cigarette for the flight which is sad i know but itll be worth it im sure. Plane tickets have been outrageous lately.
@Wulf - are you still looking for the micro GBA famicon edition? I have one mint complete in box, never used you can have for shipping only (Europe Mainland to US approx. USD 40)
When it comes to Japan, I'm a bit worried about bringing any device with ROMs on it. Even if legally dumped HERE, Japan has some really strict laws about them. Pretty sure you can just be arrested just for having some. (Good thing I don't have a modded switch, because I hear that definitely gets you arrested). Idk, it just seems like something to worry about when I don't need to. Plus, it's not like they'd ask to search my device anyway
I'm really curious about whether I'd be able to play Detroit: Become Human on the ROG Ally (and also on the Steamdeck but I'm pretty sure the answer is no for the Steamdeck)
I would honestly would stick to retro gaming if i was going in a dead zone without internet although I'm sure some wifi hotspots would be able to get those games running so you can play offline after, maybe even use gog games which are drm free and as the the rog ally uses windows which is a plus would be a better idea for on the go gaming Also i brought the JSAUX Carrying Case which can carry my steam deck and my switch with extra bits and the design is quite robust and didn't cost me much, much more comfortable bag
Apparently, there is zero evidence that it is heat related for the SD card. Also Starfield isn't online only, I played on the train on my way to work on the Ally not connected to the internet or anything. Both on Game Pass and on Steam. With Game Pass make sure the Ally is set as your offline device, there are instructions online on how to do that.
11:40 bruh is using the same phone with the same protective case as me. Yeah this phone is powerful but I'm tending to have trouble finding games that entertain me besides Minecraft and the emulators. Especially since I'm also an iPhone user
if you have time to respond I'd love feedback, what a good starter pokemon handheld. I CAN afford things like the analogue pocket and such but, I would like to know a good starter you'd recommend to anyone. currently my collection is sitting at one thing and it's not able to play games such as that it's the panic playdate. Maybe I should get one of those tomtoc bags now 👀 - Zion
This man brought all of his tech over seas lol. I would have prob just brought my switch and be like yeah that's good for me. Then again he has lots of filming to do so that makes sense
Imo a switch and a new Nintendo 3ds XL would be dope with a dozen of games or so plus you can put retro stuff on it with homebrew anyways
Dead cells and SOTN on the rp3+ gets me through nearly every time I travel. Having native android ports of actual quality games is so nice.
I love android ports on my Odin. GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas run amazingly well on powerful hardware like these android gaming devices. And they're so cheap (at least they were when I bought them a few years ago).
Terraria is one of my favourite games and having it on android is a nice little fix for me.
been seeing more and more solid Android ports lately too, nice to have as an option
This video gave me the oppopsite of ideas for stuff to take on holiday. Made me appreciate my simplistic take on tech when travelling.
Starfield worked offline here for me on gamepass as well just make sure you set it up for offline mode in the settings of gamepass and worked fine for a week away.
To be fair, they do not make that obvious. And they should.
Enjoy your trip, Bob!! Amazing video! 🎉

staying in the former nintendo ceo’s office is such a flex
That was pretty cool 😊😊
Make a video on Wii U Homebrew. It's very underrated!
I travelled to Japan for 2 weeks early this year. Took with me a N3DSXL, my OLED switch and a DS Lite. and a bunch of games...Ended up playing nothing because that country is amazing LOL
And bought a Switch Lite in the Tokyo Nintendo Store because the yen is MAD CHEAP.
I didn't think of that. Fishing for cheap video game gear whilst out there. Another good reason to visit Japan.
Wait..I LITERALLY JUS SEARCHED 4 THIS, THANKYOIII 🖤
So excited to see everything else y’all filmed and more from the trip! Really enjoyed the quality of the video too.
This was wild on how he fit eveything, almost magical. Seem bigger than Skoots apartment to
Hahahah you’re awesome - that’s how you travel in style
I hope to run into you - since I’m in Kansai.
You’re a good man- saved me a lot of money during the smash controller freak outs days-hope you have tons of of fun here
Always enjoy your videos. Hope you enjoyed Japan! I'm hoping to go again next year.
Welcome to Japan! Hope you have a good time here.
Enough about the umbrella already! 😂
I love how many youtubers talk bad /not so good abaout the Ally and they are all using rite now jajaja
Except Linus, who sings its praises at every turn.
Shocking news, people that use something the most, also know the most about all the bad sides of the thing.
Was going to say the same thing. Second one I've seen recently.
Surprise it's gonna change next month with another new console
It’s a decent size and can play most if not any game you throw at it. Walled gardens got nothing on that.
But there are also the clout streamers like that somali guy or logan paul making other cultures look down on foreigners.
Enjoy your trip Bob, looking forward to the travel blogs
Loved living in Japan!! I truly miss it!
I would love a video (podcast?) with you, Wood, Hannah, whomever about your trip. My wife and I want to visit Japan someday for our late honeymoon whenever we can afford it and I’d love your input on your experiences, where we should go, etc.
That must be wildly expensive to stay in one of the CEO offices at old Nintendo!
Great Stuff, as always!
Ahh yes another Wulff Den video, finally so much has happened I can't wait for the next Pod episodes. Also this video comes just in time for me to go on my honeymoon cruise next week
It was nice meeting you in Japan Bob 🤙
Bob's the only guy who can have a bright ass window behind him and still look beautiful
Majestic, even.
Really cool video. It's always super interesting to see what other people are filming and gaming on. Looking forward to that vlog.
So excited to hear about your experiences in Japan! I'm trying to plan a trip there next year, i would love a tips and tricks video on what you would recommend and what works well for you. enjoy the trip! cant wait to see the videos!

Thank you for the vid. Have fun on your trip and stay safe!
Oh neat, great timing, i am leaving to japan for the first time tomorrow
Love my Tomtoc bag

COFFEE VID HYPE
Great video on your travel items. Would love to see a longer video about the camera set up you have, personally would like to get inspiration or to copy a set up.
Another great video from my guy Bob💯
Please tell us more about the Nintendo headquarters hotel! That sounds so cool
oh yea baby i made it to Japan
Oooh, I didn't know it was that easy to upgrade the M2 in the Ally. Using inbuilt Windows cloning sounds perfect for me.
Love to see the third triplet make a photo appearance.
Hey I'm in Japan right now as well! Will be in Kyoto next week :)
And um... Yeah might have already bought some GameCube stuff and OSTs and other little bits here and there...
These are the coolest videos
I'm flying there tomorrow WHAT TIMING, you're a lord Bob!
Ok didn't help me, but I think that's my fault for expecting this to be a backpack travel guide XD. Onya Bob.
Imagining paying $60 for a game and Steam decided you can't play it because no Internet.
Like I said gog games would have been great for offline play
I want to see Bob do interviews with developers and product owners
This gives me alot of great ideas thank you! I think I'll start with traveling lol 😅
Oh hey if you haven't went into your settings on the Xbox app in the Ally you can actually set it to play the games offline you can only set up two consoles in that manner but you are able to play starfield offline

Great video, thumbs up!
Dude is dropping big bills to stay in that hotel room. If I had the cash I would too, it's very cool to be able to say you stayed at the original Nintendo headquarters.
Amazing video!
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk might be my goty, glad to see more people talking about it!
I love the Fuji x 100f camera

All those always online games require is basically a ping to the server. It's not a cumbersome data stream, so a phone hotspot can easily meet those requirements.
Cracked version of Starfield plays just fine without an internet connection. Again, a better experience for pirates
where is your steam deck?
great vid! can't wait for you to get out of the hotel XD
tbh would love to see you on the Waveform Podcast. they miss a ton of conversations around gaming tech i think you could bring to the table
ill be there next week
Bob, what’s your choice for extended battery/charging when an outlet isn’t available?
I was wondering if you would be interested in purchasing or reviewing water fields Sutter Tech sling bag, probably the larger size. It’s an awesome bag. Yeah, it’s a little pricey around 200 or so but it looks like you could fit you perfectly.
I'm currently in Japan and hauled way too much stuff in a 40L backpack- travel light if you can!
for this things I never use pc for gaming, if bring your switch you have alot of games to play , wood is smarter
We are going to try and go in june next year but im worried i cant go without a cigarette for the flight which is sad i know but itll be worth it im sure. Plane tickets have been outrageous lately.
What is the tool he used to clone/upgrade to the new SSD? I can't tell and can't find any videos on it.
Wulff please look up how to roadie wrap and save your cables :(
@Wulf - are you still looking for the micro GBA famicon edition? I have one mint complete in box, never used you can have for shipping only (Europe Mainland to US approx. USD 40)
Bob taking all this gear to Japan is like taking wood to a forest 😂
Are you going to review nitro deck?
Red Magic 8 Pro, I got screen burn in after leaving the screen on all night while charging it
If i had the budget I'd def grab the bag haha
Are you getting an Odin 2??
Hello, nice video. When will you review Super Mario Bros. Wonder?!
Pls recommend laptops for students

Bro/sis/them I imagine its more about stopping people from distributing them. They have more serious crimes to worry about.....
I know this is a long shot, but I hope you could meet one of the trash taste boys when you're there!
i’ll mix sound for you, bob
I'm really curious about whether I'd be able to play Detroit: Become Human on the ROG Ally (and also on the Steamdeck but I'm pretty sure the answer is no for the Steamdeck)

Yay for WiFi voodoo 😃👍
11:40 bruh is using the same phone with the same protective case as me.
Yeah this phone is powerful but I'm tending to have trouble finding games that entertain me besides Minecraft and the emulators. Especially since I'm also an iPhone user
What is the best SD card for the ally considering it's over heating certain brands on SD cards?
i think that sd card is also an issue on steam deck
if you have time to respond I'd love feedback, what a good starter pokemon handheld. I CAN afford things like the analogue pocket and such but, I would like to know a good starter you'd recommend to anyone. currently my collection is sitting at one thing and it's not able to play games such as that it's the panic playdate. (if that gives you any help with what my interest are)
I saw your updates of your Japan trip on twitter... you burnt your Switch to a crisp lmao
