This is a great video. I'm currently battling 40 years worth of buckthorn growth on a property I just purchased in Illinois. There is no easy fix, just keep plugging away at it.
Lots on my backyard too....Just keep chopping down a little bit every day.
Minnesota Implement has the answer. Just pull the whole tree. The have pullers have 10,000 pounds of gripping pressure and depending on the tractor, skid steer, or bobcat.
Great info!
cover a fresh cut stump with black plastic so it cannot get the sunlight it needs
Do you have a more affordable supplier than the buckthorn baggie?
Which herbicides are best for dauber application (dabbed around the perimeter of the freshly cut stump)? Which herbicides are best for spraying on freshly cut stumps?
A field brush mulcher would take care of your problems
I got buckthorn and high bush cranberry growing in the same area, so i have got to be careful with my methods
Can you spray in spring? I thought the sap is flowing and herbicide will not work.
Do you know what months? I'm in winnebago county wisconsin
@@alexturner3493 Alex, the month of sap flow in trees varies with location. Primarily we are referring to freezing nights (below 32 degrees) and thawing days (above 32 degrees). This period is when the sap is flowing from maple trees. In MN the months of February and March are the common periods. Stump cut treatments can be affected by the upward movement of sap from the vascular tissue. Yes, the trees uptake of herbicide applied at this time may be impaired and may not receive enough herbicide in the bark layer tissue to effectively kill the tree. Avoid this sap flow period. Note: when applying herbicide to cut stumps, the herbicide must be applied on the bark ring completely around the cut stump. Allowing the labeled brush herbicide to spread over the bark rim to the outside bark is good because many of these herbicides can penetrate the bark. Always read the brush herbicide label, most applications can be done any time of year except a cut stump application during sap flow. Spring applications after that period should be effective. Apply the herbicide soon after the stump is cut, usually within 30 minutes or immediately.
I been eating the berries from a tree that grew up to my porch , is that bad ?
Well,, are u still alive?
invasive plants are more likely to form monocultures.
We just spray hydrochloric acid all over our vegetation here & then when it rains, it just washes all away into the river! No need to worry about the contamination because it’s a small village & everyone here uses well water, It’s perfect👌 it’s a barren desert now no more pesky buck thorn or trees for that matter.🌲 🌳

Pull bearer is a complete joke except maybe if you want to plant or create an unobstructed trail or other similar access. Otherwise it is a stupid use of your time and energy. Never seen any real progress using them given the time and energy people commit to using them. Limited application tool and if not applicable has no place in your arsenal.
What is a pull bearer?
