1.1.1.1 is a new free DNS service run by Cloudflare, who is known for their CDN services. It actually turns out it is now the fastest DNS service, and they are making it privacy oriented, so they do not keep logs beyond 24 hours. They also support Encrypted DNS, which is being added to Android soon.

i dont know man.... just watching thio talk technical stuff on my screen feels like i am having a private IT lesson from him, Even tho i started watching you for your troll vids, but i have to say man, i have learnt a lot from just watching you, and its really nice that you try to explain everything in a very simple manner, without using any technical words , so yeah, keep up the good work man, youre helping a lot of people who genuinely wanna learn more about computers

Accelerator level6 I completely agree with u. I think he explains everything he teaches in great detail & most importantly, in a way that I can understand. This computer stuff usually gets me overwhelmed but since I’ve been watching Tj, I get on his page & search what’s going on & usually 2-3 vids later I feel like I’m tech savvy enuff 2 perform the job. So thx Tj.

YOu can tell if it's a troll video if he shoots all these crazy shots. If it's all one frame and he is just chilling and explaining, he is telling the truth. I like Thio because he teaches the lesson that you gotta learn for yourself, and work hard to know the truth.

Part of what lead me into learning more about DNS servers was a major outage ATT had with their DNS servers. We were without working internet for a few days before I figured out that this was the culrpit. I swithced us to Google's public DNS servers and we have had very few issues since. I just recently tried Cloudflare and they seem to be pretty good as well.

I actually experienced worse performance in response-times when I went from XDSL 60/10 (Swedish ISP Telia) to Fiber 1000/1000 (Swedish ISP Bahnhof). Of course pure speed was improved, but it felt more sluggish. Then I changed DNS from my fiber-providers DNS to this, and it is now as snappy as ever.

This change from my ISP's DNS has consistently given my home computer network increased data throughput. Periodically, I run Namebench on one of my Mac Pro desktop systems to find the closest and fastest DNS servers to use, and often Cloudflare is among the top three, which I use in the OS' network settings. This strategy results in the best speeds I can achieve, occasionally exceeding the normal 1 Gbps limit on my service. I recommend the approach to all computer users who travel the Information Superhighway.

ISPs can still see the websites you visit even if the DNS queries are encrypted because they can see which servers you connect to after the domain is resolved. From that point, it's not hard to figure out which websites are using those IP addresses.
Without a VPN or Tor, you can't have complete privacy yet.

Tysm! This absolutely works & I love it! Lately I’ve had many internet issues & 2 explain my situation as simple as possible...I tried to get a 2nd internet service installed @ my house & it turned out 2b a disaster. So I had it shut off 2 wks later & my prev speed (was a 3?) wasn’t being offered anymore. So I had to get a slower speed(being a 1?) even tho I was paying for 3. After watching several of your videos now I’m getting more than what I pay for(6.74) & I am truly grateful. Hope this makes sense. I did my best to explain bc idk most of the terms.

This is 100% legit, we have been using it since Cloudflare first announced it a year or two ago. Just use any DNS testing utility and you can see that its consistently the fastest or second fastest DNS server. I used to test it once a week because I was skeptical but after several weeks I got tired of it always working and always being the fastest so I switched everyone over to this Cloudflare based DNS service.

DNS-Crypt, OpenDNS had support for that for the longest as well as the DD-WRT 3rd party open source router firmware; honestly I have no idea why ThioJoe seems to always have knowledge on stock official non modified firmware and all however never any knowledge about 3rd party alternatives, I can't recall in any video of his from the past 3-4 years that I've been subscribed where custom 3rd party firmware was mentioned for any product or device. VPNs and DNS (and related) I don't think would count; still left a like for support however.

Any dev using an IP they don't own as a placeholder should be fired. Pro-tip, kids. Security matters. Sending dev packets to a server you don't own is stupid. Don't do it. It's also pretty rude to abuse a third party like that.
