@gabrielford3473 I guess it's a pretty loosely defined genre, but I'd say the first quarter or half of the jam would fit my definition. In my mind, this genre would also include music by artists like Cluster, North Americans, Nala Sinephro, The Bitchin Bajas. And Raa. (To name a few)
I was there, and it was grand. It felt like the band was bringing the Sphere to us on the road. I'm sure many of us would be grateful for more of this type visual on the road.
I'm so lucky to have experienced this in person and happy to have this video so I can watch it again! Phish's playing was so open and relaxed, yet laser focused in each, very unique movement of this jam, and just sounded so fresh and beautiful. The visuals were so fluid, with beautiful yet surreal images of nature that perfectly suited the music and are just deeply psychedelic. Easily one of the best concert experiences of my life!
Long story short, I live in Delaware and at one time was a big Phish head, I wasn't planning on going but last minute My sister had an opportunity to volunteer at Dover Downs for free passes for the 4 days and she got me on the list of volunteers so I decided to go last minute attending Thursday snd Friday. So glad I went unfortunately I couldn't attend Saturday and Sunday but man I really enjoyed the venue all the great set-ups the City Hall the trippy trees with eyes the Ferris wheel & Moon sculpture it was all just fantastic, My sister and I had a great time. Thanks Phish you guys are awesome and still have it! See you at the next Philly concert event...
I appreciate this video so much! Thank you filming, posting, for keeping the camera so still and the chompers quiet. I was in attendance, and after 236 shows, I'd put this jam in the upper echelon of all of their improvisational masterpieces. I also feel that this jam could not have happened earlier in their career. They weren't ready to put something like this together. How lucky we are to be alive to witness it!
Before this set as people were walking away from the stage it was my chance to re-create my experience 25 years ago at Oswego when I went up close to the stage for the second show by myself because my friends wanted to hang back. I was 14 at the time and that show, that second set, 25 years ago taught me some extremely deep life lessons about Love, Music, friendship and my place in the universe. Anyway, I was able to walk up about 10 people back from mikes side on stage and I actually met a women that ended up sharing the same first phish show as me, 12-3-1997, needless to say I knew I was in the right place once again. I was by myself, meeting new Phriends and close to the source once again at a phish fest. This set was no less revelatory than the one I had 25 years ago at Oswego. I found myself %100 taken by the first 20 or 30 minutes. I was fully in a meditative zone, allowing the music to flow through me and into the ether then back to me again,, this cycle repeating allowing me to fully transcend my previous state of being. I listened to Brian Eno's Music for Airports the night before at my RV campsite, so I was totally primed for this experience. The band slowly took us out of the internal meditation to remind us that mother nature is chaos and beauty and its happening all around us, before us and after us. The piece of music is without a doubt the deepest art Phish has ever created. I got a chance to jam with friends new and old at the Groove Safe stage after experiencing this set and that proved to be a great way to allow my energy and feelings to flow out me in the my favorite way I like to process life, through creating music. I got back to my campsite around 330am and a neighbor walked over from his RV. He said he couldnt sleep , saw us hanging and wanted to be around phriends, He also wanted to let us know that he had listened to this piece of music 3 times already and that he concluded that it is indeed a masterpiece. Cheers everyone, Saturdays show was the party but the "secret set" Friday night might have been the best thing phish has ever pulled off.
