I bought a 2016 Elantra 'preferred package" model. Love the car! The ONLY complaints I have is no spare and the Hankook tires on it from the factory are junk. When I'm in Ohio on flat roads, it's not uncommon for me to average 40 mpg's on the freeway. Great value, I liked this better than the Toyota's and Honda's.
@@iGoHam2 What is the mileage and how many owners has it had, are you buying it from a dealer or a private seller, and last before you buy any car run its vin number through Carfax.
Great Review, I actually bought the 2016 Elantra SE with the Preferred Equipment package, I knew about the Value Edition, but I hate moon roofs, because they reduce headroom in the car. Almost all good things to say about this car, the one thing I don't like is when you are driving on rough pavement, or you hit a pothole or something in the road, the rear suspension seems like it just doesn't absorb the impact as well as the Elantra used to when the Elantra had independent rear suspension, or compared to my previous car, a 2007 Mazda 3. The Mazda 3 had a great ride, but the sport tuned suspension made you feel the road a lot more, plus it had a lot more road noise than the Elantra. I looked at a few different cars before I chose the Elantra, I looked at the Corolla, I liked it but in their typical style, all toyota sales reps are horse's behinds, and they just don't negotiate that much, and I didn't feel like paying more for a Corolla, when in fact the Elantra is a better car in several ways, one being that the Elantra has 4 wheel disc brakes on all trim lines, whereas the Corolla uses rear drum brakes on the lower trim lines. Corolla also has more body lean when cornering. Value, and reliability and purchase price were all driving my decision. I also looked at the Ford Focus, loved the way it handled, but Ford is out of their minds, for the prices that I saw on those cars. That and questionable reliability on the Focus. Also, the interior of the Focus is very boring, all black, nothing else, seemed very stark, and dismal with no character. I looked at the Civic as well, actually I had an offer on a 2015 brand new Civic, but it was the LX, which was a stripped down version and hardly had any equipment on it, not even alloy wheels, and not even intermittent windshield wiper speed, just 2 settings for the windshield wipers, and no fog lights, no heated exterior mirrors. Plus to insure a Civic would cost me an additional chunk of money every year, because of the theft rate. I didn't even bother looking at anything from GM, Chrysler, or Shitsu-bishi, and not really a fan of Nissan's compact cars, although Nissan does a much better job with the Altima and the Maxima, but they seem to just not put as much effort and thought into the Sentra. I would actually like to do a video review of the car myself, I have some interesting feedback on the car, especially the interior.
@@skateandfingerboard1 - Yes I would buy another Elantra again. This 2016 Elantra has proven to be more reliable than my previous car, a 2007 Mazda 3 which I bought brand new. Mazda 3 had a couple of issues, including AC system that broke down over and over, once the car hit 80K miles. I finally traded the Mazda in at 115K miles for the Elantra, and have not regretted it, and not sure I'd buy another Mazda again. Next time I am thinking about getting the Hyundai Kona instead.
2:45 He's right about the front passenger seat being too low. I felt like I was sitting on a skateboard on that side of the car. A height adjustment there would be great.
Found a used 2016 Elantra (base model) for $5,300 USD. It has 100,040 miles on it and it’s in near perfect condition. Do you think it’s worth the price? I want a second opinion to see if this is a good deal.
The 2016 are really weird looking the 2017-2018 are so nice and classy. They look less like the accent and more like the Sonata. And that’s a good thing
Good review, Chris. Thank you for reviewing cars that a majority of us out here in Middle America might actually consider buying. If you've had a chance to drive it, how does this stack up against the new LX or EX Civic?
right when you talk about how glad you are for the buttons and knobs you right away talk about the touch screen and made is sounds as if you were required to use it (along with the steering wheel) controls instead of the radio buttons/knobs...I was a little confused by that...do you have to use the touch screen for some things or can it be controlled without using the screen?
Why spend 20,000 plus trying to make a mule into a horse? I have trouble getting up to speed getting on the freeway but it cruises well at 130 k p hr.... You dont feel the road and the wind blows you around, i got mine 2016 at discount time, under 10,000 canadian standard transmission, love it, no options, lots of space, i have blood red colour that looks like salt advert in winter conditions, i never liked the car but its like a wife you dont really love, who dont love you but you make the best of it
Drove this car for a week, over 1k miles, as a rental. Overall, nothing inspiring about the driving experience at all. The worst part is the handling, there is some strange way Hyundai setup the electric steering with unnecessary artificial heft, and the lack of independence, coupled with cheap dampers make the ride jarring and unsettling over rough pavement. Throttle by wire mapping is awful, you have to really dig into the heavily sprung pedal to get the power going, but once the revs are up the power is adequate for its class. Gas mileage is okay but a Corolla will beat it on overall loops. Interior is very large and roomy. Road noise is average for the class. Overall, I'd say this is an okay car if you need to buy something for your kid, or if you need a cheap disposable vehicle to rack up very high amounts of mileage on. Does best on smooth long distance highway runs.
oldtwins I'm a 19 year old college student. My 1st car was a 2002 Saturn that I got for 2500 , most of the money came from my dad but the 2016 Hyundai elantra is the first car I've bought for myself. I love it except not enough head room because I'm 6'3.
I'm currently considering one now. I live in Nevada, work is 2 lights away from me (along with everything else i need lol) But i do visit my family in California on occasions... Would you recommend?

Im in a similar boat. Looking into 2016 value. Still happy with your elantra?
P S 3 years later; would you buy the car again?
How's the 2016 running now? I'm considering one

I'm considering an Elantra to replace my '06 Chevrolet Cobalt. It seems like a great pick!
the toyota avalon is actually a full sized car, their mid sized car is the camry, the compact is the corolla...

I 100% agree. My mother hate's sitting in the passenger seat because she's already short. 😂
