Back in the day , when a person got snow tires on, it meant studded tires. If you live in a snow prone area and you have a wood or coal stove, ashes were one of your best friends in the winter.
Great sense of humor, Jenna! As long as you keep your sense of humor, you can survive Old Man Winter. You did a wonderful job of keeping us entertained and even ol' Rickety got in on the comic relief. Wow! That wood pile is going down fast. I hope you get a mid-Winter thaw for at least a week so you can get some more firewood. Wouldn't it be nice to see the ground again? You made me think back to my time in Alaska and I am sorry to say, "I want no part of that again!" I remember those mid-Winter blues and thinking about a warm sandy beach and plenty of Sun. I just noticed you have over 18k subscribers! I knew you were famous. Notoriety comes at a hefty price though, don't turn into a "Gypsicle Jenna" or is that a "Jenna Gypsicle". Someday, when it's warmer, remind me to tell you about the "beersicle run". Stay warm my friend!
Hi Jenna! If you didn’t already know this, putting plastic trash bags held on with a rubber band on your car mirrors will help to keep them clear from any ice and snow buildup.
My boss called and interrupted me watching a new Gypsy Jenna video......how rude!!!! 71 degrees here in Texas today (22 C). You have snow...... we have tornadoes, hail, and dust storms. Fun video, thanks!!!!!!!
thanks for the update on your home stead. The car getting stuck. Build a car ramp . yep 3-5 inches above your driveway height out of barn wood slabs . 5-10 degree forward slope . Or buy a carport enclosure at 5 times the cost . but year round benefits. Buy an extendable painters pole , up to 16 feet . they use the same 3/4 threads as a paint roller handle, and also works on a shop push broom head, for clearing roof snow , etc. and or make a panel cover for your solar , yes pre cover it before the snow and remove it in the morning. ! Keep important life tasks simple and repeatable. systems make for a reliable , daily life . Think of the simple additional , one time tasks that make the morning burden , less so . Park your fire circle place chairs , up side down !!! so the bottom seat is always dry for your back side . Yes you are learning as you grow. Congrats on that . understood. consider , the mind set of training your future self , in simplicity. Not criticizing you... Break your patterns, to make your day easier. prevention , preparation and redundancy :) add a few siliconed quarters to the cat door to keep it closed .
Ashes to the rescue. Also good for putting on gardens all winter and later tilling it under to revitalize the soil a bit. Love that wind in the tree's sound, music to my ears among other things such as babbling brooks, birdsong and cat's purring... I bet your wood will last through February, but honestly, God only knows. Have a great week Jenna.
Regarding the hum of the gas regulator. That's the membrane that vibrates at a high frequency due the gas flow. There is black screw on the side of the regulator, if you unscrew that, there is a big screw under for a flat bed screwdriver. This screw regulates the pressure, turning this screw 90° will stop the hum. If you turn this screw clockwise, you increase the gas pressure, counter clockwise will decrease the gas pressure. If there is another regulator between this outside regulator and your furnace and refrigerator, then the little difference(lower or higher) in gas pressure can't harm anything. Also, turning this screw just 90° doesn't change the pressure that much, but enough to stop the vibration of the membrane. If you unscrew the black screw while there is gas flow, the hum can temporary get louder and make a buzzing sound, untill the black screw is placed back in place. That's normal. No gas will come out when you unscrew this black screw, because this is above the membrane, the gas is on the other side of this membrane. Grtz
I lost 3 days of solar last snow :-(. I have to get on my metal roof to clean them off “wasn’t happening :-(. This spring I’m going to build my rack on the ground :-). Bless you 🙏🏼. Love your video’s.
I just found your channel enjoyed watching several videos. Really been impressed with your problem solving and coping skills. Not just anyone can go out and live without the Utilities like you are.
As a southern boy down here on the gulf coast of Florida, my observation is as follows. I enjoy watching your videos showing the majesty of nature and winter. Personally, I was not built for high temperatures high humidity. I was built more for snow in the mountains. But the last time I was in Anchorage in the winter, it was 22 below zero and we had 17 feet of snow. I can relate.😊 This morning here it was a brisk 46°, 50% humidity. I had to put on a down vest.😂
Girl I must say you are truly the ticket------Im impressed with your natural beauty and your ability to withstand whatever mother nature throws your way.
I bought a telescopic pole in the paint department at Walmart for about $20 dollars and attached a cheap broom head to it. It makes cleaning the snow off of my solar panels so much easier,no more ladders!!!!!!😊
Love your cats 🐈 😻 🐈⬛️! We get cold weather here, only been in Pennsylvania 2 yrs. Originally from New Jersey. I find those winter blahs setting in about February! Hang in there, spring will be here before you know it! Stay warm and safe!! Peace and love to all!!
I'm going to guess your 1 & a 1/2 stacks of wood will last you 3 & 1/2 weeks tops. Wow that was relaxing sitting around the fire pit having a beer with ya☺️👍 Looked refreshing😁 Always a great video, I love watching all the way through💯 Your new ladder is going to be nice😃 And thanks for the tip with the ashes, I never knew that.
You go girl Jenna you’re a tough woman you’re so self reliant and that’s rare these days I’m the same way I learned a long time ago the only person you can depend on is yourself ! 😘👍🇺🇸🐈⬛🐈⬛
I love your content and your light hearted attitude! You’re inspiring me , in 7 years I’m going retire in the Missouri Ozarks and you’re showing me some good ideas. Thanks and stay safe.
Brrr! Stay warm! Suggestion on your cleanoff issues. Try to find an old pool cleaning screen on a pole then modify it to have a brush on it. Easy and much safer than a ladder!
Hi Jenna you did great with the ashes I used to use skid chains that strap on the tires for the snow been lousy winter so far in Jersey like rain every other day but no snow not crazy about it when your older, love watching your videos stay safe and warm Dear
I too live in a camper. I'm in Michigan so it gets pretty cold and snowy here too. I use a Mr Buddy propane heater that get's things all toasty inside. I also have cats (3 of them) but they are all indoor cats. They never go out. It works for me. I don't drink anymore, but I would relax with a nice bowl of sticky icky
When I'm outside tending to the snow, I always wonder what folks in warmer climates are doing at the very moment? Bike riding, fishing, going for walks, playing sports, swimming...well, who needs that! Back breaking shoveling, spending times on a slippery ladder, clearing roof is pure adventure! Ok, cold climates suck mainly, because the winter time in the northeast is too long! I think my back hurts from watching you shovel! Great video! -Miss the smile / frown face temp display!
I love these winter posts the most! Sorry you're not that wild about snow. I'm sure the algorithm gave me your channel from watching A Jay In The Woods over in the NW Territories. Enjoyed watching you so far. Your place is lovely.
I'm in Texas and this morning it was 48 degrees F and I thought I was going to freeze to death. Just put your beers in the snow , save refrigerator space:)
If you move your sun panel over to the one that doesn’t have ice it’s probably because your woodstove is putting off just enough heat to keep the ice from forming on your solar panels. You won’t have to go out there and clean them off that way you think that would work.
I just got plowed out today here in Pictou County.. paths to the wood shed and chicken coops done.. i use wood ash too.. get ready for this weekends weather 😊
Your log burner consumes logs and oxygen. If you provide an adjustable vent under the log burner it may serve to reduce the draughts from doors, cat flaps etc. The vent will allow cold air in but it should go straight through the burner. Did it on my house and it works very well.
Hi Gypsy Jenna! You have been inspiring me for the past few weeks as I lead a very similar life to you. You are currently my motivation to finish things and see them through. I live alone with my 4 dogs and 2 cats in a small, old aluminum mobile home that I built myself. The winters are hard and you have to survive and see how it stays warm in the hut 😂 .. I installed a diesel heater in addition to my oven and I finished it today. There were some complications and your videos kept me going because I started to doubt myself and I was alone in this. Thanks to you I got it finished today and it's working! I thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing your thing ❤️ .. so I don't have to feel alone because hardly anyone understands my way into the forest. P.S.: sorry, I had to use Google Translator because I can't communicate well in English. ❤️
ROWDY WEATHER, IT WAS 52 IN IDAHO TODAY, BUT JANUARY WAS AS LOW AS -10F. BRRRRRR.... AWESOME JOB WITH THE WOOD ASHES, YOU DEF KNOW HOW TO IMPROVISE. STAY WAR LIL LADY, GOD BLESS.🙏🙏🤙🤙💙💙😁😉
I live in a very nice apartment. Last winter it got so cold I put bubble wrap on my windows. Absolutely no one knows so I left it all on for the summer. The light still comes in and its great
I agree, spring can't come soon enough! You shovel and deal with winter like a champ though Jenna 🙌 Wood ashes are great for the slippery sidewalk too.... messy though, very messy! ☺
You might want to consider an older Subaru Outback really nice in the snow ,I also have an 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee both are older but great in the snow All wheel drive and Four wheel low also on jeep.Hate getting stuck also live very rural Take care ❤️
I agree , Subaru only for the winter for me . I have 3 , 2 foresters and a outback. The forester will literally drive through 4ft of snow pushing it up over the hood ! Just Subaru’s come with added cost of rep compared to a Toyota.
I’m from cape breton ,in Ontario now , years ago we used coal and wood ashes for traction, the coal was better but wood ash works well too , hard to get coal now tho and it’s more messy and bad for the environment, maybe for next winter get a car tent , saw a few in driveways up here they work great , no cleaning snow off either gravel inside , good videos have a good night 👍
A pine branch works amazing for getting a car unstuck, we keep a few branches in our pickup truck lol. great video as always :) Kitty looks like it's on a mission to finally catch that chipmunk lol.
Hey, Thanks for that snowball in my face! It was greatly appreciated! It helped cool me off, while sitting here, sweating my ass off, under the Tiki hut, sipping on a Rum Runner. I needed something different, than jumping in the pool, to cool off,
Mosquitos in winter, yeah i've seen them in my home in January, mild spills the adults come out of hiding lol Canadian species that hibernate as adults may live for eight to nine months. Other species may overwinter as eggs (and hatch in spring) or as larvae; in parts of Canada, these larvae may be ice-bound for six to seven months.
Just a little something if you didn’t already know if your generator won’t start and your solar panels are covered in snow and your batteries are getting weak you could always use jumper cables to your car to charge your batteries back up in an emergency
Sometimes when its snowing you just need someone to give you a push to get out of a rut. If you put it in 2nd and slipped the clutch a lot it might have just crawled out of there but ashes were probably easier. Funny story many years ago we had a freak snow storm at work one night which we get in England some winters and I had to tow my colleague in his very expensive BMW 525D about a mile to the main road with my shitty old Toyota. Silly boy had summer tyres on it and it was the middle of nowhere. We had no gritting or snow ploughs up that road. The one thing I do notice about summer tyres vs winter tyres is in my experience summer tyres feel like they grip better in the wet than winters and they're more hard wearing. We mainly get wet weather in England in summer so except a month or two a year I generally run summers. Stay warm Jenna!
13:27 Head Strike (plays great at 0.25 speed.) (Pro tip: Watch the rest of the video at 0.75 speed and Jenna sounds like she's drunk.) Great episode, Jenna. Loved the night shot at the end. #OffGridCozy
Hey, Jenna! We had the same storm here in Newfoundland. We had a lot more wind and a lot more snow. I personally hate winter. Spring cannot come soon enough. Love your vids! Give those sweet kitties of yours a big old kiss from the Rock! LOL
About the same here, but may not get the snow. It's kind of iffy. Lot's of rain coming, they saying for now. Problem is the ground thawed out from the freeze, so it has turned into mush. I left two ruts fifteen feet long, a foot deep, with my 8 ply mud grips day before yesterday trying to get the groceries around here, but I didn't get stuck. I just got home from the truss company getting scraps of pine boards to burn. I've got a few big pieces of pecan tree trunk that I have to cut in half so I can split them. We're going to blade the driveway tomorrow with the tractor. It has turned into mush too. It dried out some today with the sun out. Lots of mud everywhere. I had to park out front until it all goes away and I can get back around here. So I'm carting wood and cans of food around here to the back, before the rain comes again. The new lithium batteries are doing great compared to last year. Voltage is 26.6 v. The wind generator has been keeping the lead acid ones charged pretty well, 12.73 v. I probably have enough wood 🔥 until March. It looked like your place here last week, but it's turned into Mudville. The struggle is real, lol. Be sure and keep your vitamins C up. I got a dozen oranges and some lemon juice at the store. Yeah, I'm ready for spring too. The rain is coming, then another one behind it coming in off the West coast, so uncle and I will just have to wait it out before driving in and out of here.
Hey Jenna. Love watching your videos. I'm hoping to get some land up in northern Maine in a year or two. Your videos give me an idea of what it is like to live up north. I love the winter and while I don't like being cold I love the cold weather if that makes any sense. Stay safe.
I believe you will be fine with your wood heating source. It’s “warming” up again on the East coast. I follow the weather forecast closely and temperatures aren’t supposed to drop below freezing again… Just burn efficiently and all will be fine… Love the simplicity Of your videos….
Hello Jenna thanks for the video. I love watching your videos. I'm in Windsor, Nova Scotia. That storm the other day kinda screwed me up. I had to take the day off work. Getting out of the apartment sucked! I'm crippled and use a walker. I had a hip replacement in November and am getting a second one end of March. I could not live in the way you live, physically. If I could I would! I pay almost half my income for rent! Anyway, best to you! Keep on keeping on....cheers!
You should be good until March with wood. It has been a mild winter this year in NH. I'm not complaining 🙂 If you are concerned you could grab pallets and use them to supplement your wood. Or look for fallen hardwood and cut off that. I've done all of that in a pinch.
Even the slightest incline can get your car stuck. We park all the cars at the flatest part of the driveway or with a downward slant to ensure we can get out. Your wood shelter looks like you could get the car partially in? We also blanket our windshield. At super negative Temps, we add engine warmers and solar battery tenders fyi. Each year I add something new to my system. I like some of these other suggestions as well...
What a "Pain in the ASH" living in the snow. I still see a wobbly ladder. 😢 10 days ago you had two columns of wood. down to 1.5 columns now so I figure 30 more days of firewood, end of February. Yes, I have palm trees 🌴
Dear Jenna..Have been seeing the monsterous storm that hit the Maritimes this week..can't stop thinking about you,and hope everything is working and you are safe and warm,or staying somewhere while you dig out or whatever.Thats scary amounts of snow! Best of luck and safety Jenna and Kitties! Take care.
Lol on the snowball! I can just imagine how hard it must be to get out of the cozy camper,to maintain and clear everything so things run smoothly.Cool trick with the ashes! You are an inspiring person..strong and well deserving of that beer and an early spring lol.Stay safe and keep on hanging on! Ramsey has a wild side haha
Thanks for the snowball, it was 70 degrees Fahrenheit today in Central California (77 yesterday). We’re expecting rain for the next few days, so there goes the solar, but it beats snow! Stay warm and safe!
Greetings Jenna, sorry since I only found You a few months ago. I love your Videos so I'm watching Every past episode I find. It's September 16 2024 today & unfortunately Mosquito West Nile virus is in Ontario. I also believe In not extermination but Mosquito and Bees have no place in my home!! Old saying a once of prevention is a pound of cure lol. I would have flatten that suckered 😊 PS, Gotta love Rory, he is Smart ❤
Using the ladder as a tripod? Hum! you have three good tripods. Get some sand for stuck times, but ashes works also. One learns new things doing it the hard way. That long pole that was suggested you won't need a ladder. Wood stock might last to mid February, maybe. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day.
Yeah my gopro has a small tripod (the volta) and I set that on the ladder for a higher view as it's short lol. Well, it was just too windy that day I guess lol. Had a soft landing in the snow though lol
You might consider getting a cheap anemometer and walking around your property looking for the windiest spot. I'm thinking maybe the driveway going out to the road might form a wind tunnel.
Great video, I saw a couple of mosquitoes, too the other day. I am off grid in Western Maine, crazy weather, we got flooded in December, totally ruined the plowtruck. Take care.
Reality TV, it is always fun to see what is happening in Nova Scotia Land. Right now, I have 6 inches(15 cm) of snow on the ground. We are halfway through the Winter, 47 days until Spring. 😊
Now those are my kinda day. I would keep those ashes in your car. The day you don't have them your going to get stuck. Love that snow ball throw. See you on your next video Jenna, stay warm and safe.
Back in the day , when a person got snow tires on, it meant studded tires. If you live in a snow prone area and you have a wood or coal stove, ashes were one of your best friends in the winter.

Regarding the hum of the gas regulator. That's the membrane that vibrates at a high frequency due the gas flow.
There is black screw on the side of the regulator, if you unscrew that, there is a big screw under for a flat bed screwdriver. Grtz
Thanks for the info!

A pine branch works amazing for getting a car unstuck, we keep a few branches in our pickup truck lol. great video as always :) Kitty looks like it's on a mission to finally catch that chipmunk lol.
Sometimes if you put a little kittie litter or icemelt around your tires. That usually works. Greetings from Maine😊
Ashes, great idea. I keep cat litter and a few carpet samples in my car.😊
Ohh carpet samples, not a bad idea
Hey, Thanks for that snowball in my face! It was greatly appreciated! It helped cool me off, while sitting here, sweating my ass off, under the Tiki hut, sipping on a Rum Runner. I needed something different, than jumping in the pool, to cool off,
😅🤣 you're very welcome then! Lol
Watch the pine trees.? They often drop branches when they get snow covered. They are often heavy and will brake awning and windows. Later
Just a little something if you didn’t already know if your generator won’t start and your solar panels are covered in snow and your batteries are getting weak you could always use jumper cables to your car to charge your batteries back up in an emergency
Not under a palm tree but have the aircon on to get it down to 27C.... It's warm and humid in the land of Roo's
Just a thought, old cat litter works great when you get stuck.put some under your car tires😊
Wow. Didn’t know about the ashes trick. Thank you
Use kitty litter around the tires to help with the slippage I carry some in my hatchback
13:27 Head Strike (plays great at 0.25 speed.) (Pro tip: Watch the rest of the video at 0.75 speed and Jenna sounds like she's drunk.)
Great episode, Jenna. Loved the night shot at the end. #OffGridCozy
I'm getting the winter blues too but you always put a grin on my face. Spring always seem so far away this time of year.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVED the ending!
What a great waying to live off-grid and enjoy the simple things in life, fishing and the great outdoors
Hi Jenna we got a lot of snow in cape breton I was sick thru it all thank God we didn't loss power well my dear stay safe and warm love you ❤
Oh my goodness, you guys got a real mess over there! I hope you're feeling better and staying safe!
2:43 Gotta love the smirk on Ramsey's face 🐱
Hey, Jenna! We had the same storm here in Newfoundland. We had a lot more wind and a lot more snow. I personally hate winter. Spring cannot come soon enough. Love your vids! Give those sweet kitties of yours a big old kiss from the Rock! LOL
They accepted your smooch and said to kiss a cod for them :)
I just subscribed yesterday . Texas here enjoying watching snow from a distance lol😊
Enjoying your channel 😂
Thank you 🙂
About the same here, but may not get the snow.
The wood pile will last until February 21. 🤷♂️🙏👍👍
Hey Jenna. Love watching your videos. I'm hoping to get some land up in northern Maine in a year or two. Your videos give me an idea of what it is like to live up north. I love the winter and while I don't like being cold I love the cold weather if that makes any sense. Stay safe.
Great video, you definitely deserved that beer after all the hard work! Stay safe and warm jenna❤
I believe you will be fine with your wood heating source. It’s “warming” up again on the East coast. I follow the weather forecast closely and temperatures aren’t supposed to drop below freezing again… Just burn efficiently and all will be fine… Love the simplicity Of your videos….
Waiting for spring as well
Cool trick with the ashes
Hello Jenna thanks for the video. I love watching your videos. I'm in Windsor, Nova Scotia. That storm the other day kinda screwed me up. I had to take the day off work. Getting out of the apartment sucked! I'm crippled and use a walker. I had a hip replacement in November and am getting a second one end of March. I could not live in the way you live, physically. If I could I would! I pay almost half my income for rent! Anyway, best to you! Keep on keeping on....cheers!
The cost of rent is awful these days. I want to wish you luck with your second hip replacement, I hope it goes well for you! 🍀
You should be good until March with wood. It has been a mild winter this year in NH.
I'm not complaining 🙂
If you are concerned you could grab pallets and use them to supplement your wood.
10 days ago you had two columns of wood. down to 1.5 columns now so I figure 30 more days of firewood, end of February.
Take care.
Hi Joanne, thanks for the concern. It was a lot of snow, especially in Cape Breton! All good here and back to business as usual thanks 😊
Haha that he does 🐱
Thanks for the snowball, it was 70 degrees Fahrenheit today in Central California (77 yesterday). We’re expecting rain for the next few days, so there goes the solar, but it beats snow! Stay warm and safe!
In Melbourne Australia at the moment it is 21°C blue skies and sunshine.
Jealous lol
Snow is a nuisance. But good for the heart. Have a great day. Love the vids.
I would have flatten that suckered 😊
PS, Gotta love Rory, he is Smart ❤
we've been having a really warm and snowless winter here in eastern ontario
That snowplow driver is amazing. Where I live they just plow the street, they do not plow on personal property. Count your blessings.
Lived in Helena Montana for 13 yrs, got tired of all the cold weather and snow, below 0s moved back to south in 2012
Using the ladder as a tripod? Hum! you have three good tripods.
U know U have a tripod that will extend to over six feet. Should I get you one that extends to over 20 feet?@@gypsyjenna
Oh no that's quite okay thanks, that would be well above the roof, haha.
I love your replies. And you are all kinds of cute. Just being nice. Okay?@@gypsyjenna
It would be like having a drone view without a drone, Ha Ha @@gypsyjenna
You might consider getting a cheap anemometer and walking around your property looking for the windiest spot. I'm thinking maybe the driveway going out to the road might form a wind tunnel.
Great video, I saw a couple of mosquitoes, too the other day. I am off grid in Western Maine, crazy weather, we got flooded in December, totally ruined the plowtruck.
Take care.
Oh my goodness, so sorry about the flood 😢
@@gypsyjenna Thank you. Using the snowblower, shoveling cutting and hauling wood keeps us fit, right.😀
@dianeguimond8476 very true! I need to do more shoveling then! Haha
Good going Jenna
I run on Nokian Hakkapelliitta studded winter tyres. Not getting stuck that easily.
Nice video of the snow. We haven’t gotten any here in Ga USA
Haha that bow/curtsy after the ashes trick.
Love your videos ! Always funny amazing sense of humor.
Reality TV, it is always fun to see what is happening in Nova Scotia Land. Right now, I have 6 inches(15 cm) of snow on the ground. We are halfway through the Winter, 47 days until Spring. 😊
I'm glady crossing those days off the calendar too! Lol
Spring is the best
No
Now those are my kinda day. I would keep those ashes in your car. The day you don't have them your going to get stuck. Love that snow ball throw. See you on your next video Jenna, stay warm and safe.
Yes, I probably should keep some in my car eh? I will likely get stuck again, Winter is not over yet lol
