Have you ever thought of doing a video comparing the low-pass filters on these two? I’ve always wanted to hear some jazz loops filtered with them both, to get that very particular East-coast filtered baseline sound from the early-mid 90s. I think I recall reading an interview with Da Beatminerz where they mentioned using both, and praising the filter on the 612 especially. I’ve been obsessed with the sound of tracks like Bucktown and others from Dah Shinin for years now, some of the best sounding beats ever made I think.
I am a blind musicien looking for a polyphonic sampler that can be operated without a screen. Do you think the s612 would be good for me? I love your stuff.
Have you ever considered doing a video on the Boss SP-202? Such a remarkable sampler. It can be hi-fi (32kHz), standard, lo-fi 1, and lo-fi 2 (which is 4kHz). Lots of great effects too!
Waht's up man!!!! Thanks for reaching out!!! While I do l like it, I'm not particularly interested in buying an SP202. Overall I generally prefer cleaner sounding samplers.
Don't belive the hip hop old-school boom bap hype, low quality 16bit samplers are the worst, the sp202 is also of poor vuild quality. Top tier are the 12 and 16bit high quality very well built racks and keyboards with advanced sampling options, the ARS-10 being the pinnacle.
Thanks for listening man!!!! Much appreciated!!! It's the same amount of time that you'd get on an SP1200. This is one of those times where it wouldn't hurt to speed up the source material before sampling into the S612 to give you a bit more sampling time.
the akai s9x0 has a resonant frequency at around ~18kHz that happens before you hit the ADC. the mpc60 also does a pre-emphasis with the same IC but i'm not sure how it's configured..(there is a de-emphasis on all the outputs though which the s9x0 doesn't do)
What's up man!!!! Thanks for reaching out!!!! I always forget to do that in these videos. It's not my thing to speed up samples. I personally don't like the sound of it but I could definitely do a video on it for sure!!
To your knowledge are there 12 or 16 bit samplers that have a through mode that I could use as a hardware insert? I'd love to hit the ad/da, filters, and all the juicy bits inside the sampler without having to actually sample. I love the sound of classic samplers, but they don't fit my work flow - I use them to add character to tracks I've recorded live, or soft synths that need some extra love. It's time consuming sampling an entire drum track 30 seconds at a time, recording it back in to Pro Tools and editing it back together.
i always wondered if the anti alias filter was a physical circuit that could be bypassed or was it done some way digitally.. i seem to remember people talking about that about a decade ago or so but there was never any conclusion that i remember. would be a cool option to have a bypass switch.
Yoooo, bro big thanks to yall for doing this vid for me. The S950 still have clarity at lower rates compared to the S612. But yeah, they sound similar at higher rate. So which would you say sounds pleasantly distorted at lower sample rates, the S612 or the Mirage. I actually own a Mirage and im interested in getting a S612!
What a useful and beautifully shot video.
What's up Hainbach!!! Much appreciated!!!!
The S950 is possibly they greatest sampler ever.
And the s612 the most important
Can someone do a good video on linking the s612 with any of the AX synths and using their filters/fx? I'm looking at you.

While it's incredible limited, the user interface of the Akai S612 is definitely ideal for anyone who's visually impaired.
The Daydream Sound Thanks a lot.

The 950 sounds amazing. The 612 has a grit that is nice too, but the short time sucks.

What's up man!!!! It's definitely noticeable!!! I didn't know that that. I do think I'd like the MPC60 a little more overall.
Yeah 950 did put out sound that is quit boosted in the high freq when i had one. 60 doesn’t do that so i much prefer 60
It would be interesting to see how they would compare when you dump the sample sped up in both racks

How did I not know about the samplers podcast ?
What up Conrad!!! Glad you found out about it now!!!

great thing about the s612 is its like working with a synth. You don't have to think. You just listen
can you do some stuff on the mpc 3000
What's up man!!!!! Thanks for watching!!!!! Much appreciated!!! I don't own an MPC 3000.

you could do this on the s9x0 as those filters happen with ICs in hardware .. i don't know about the s612

Love the colour scheme on the original!
Good video, useful comparison
What's up man!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!! Much appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought the s950 sounded like mpc 3000
s950 reminds me of my MPC60, but I wish the sample rate of the 60 wasn't fixed!
What's up man!!!!! They do sound pretty similar! I think I would prefer the MPC60 more.
@@TheDaydreamSound MPC3K with an s950 or s900 is pretty good alternative
the crazy thing is you can get one for $1000 now ??? wtf
950 sounds more rounded
more s950!
Will do! In the meantime. Check our Akai S-950 playlist! ruclips.net/p/PLhLW8TMv5V-Gmg1Id3yt_rwHa_V4N89NT
12 bit drums dude
Thanks for watching!!!
