The Ana Ng video was the 1st time I had ever seen/heard of these guys. About two weeks later when I realized the damn song was still stuck in my head (I had only heard it once after all) I went out and bought Lincoln. I then played Lincoln to torture my friends until they came around.

He could be writing about somebody in Manhattan who is thinking about a Vietnamese person who doesn't live in Vietnam. Of course, she'd have to live somewhere in the middle of the Indian Ocean to be opposite NYC.
when you talk fast yourself (somebody like me), you adapt an ear for other fellow fast-talkers. the dialogue you found inaudible goes: "so the song, presumably, is about somebody...in Peru...writing about someone in Vietnam, but I didn't know that when I wrote it."
I know someone by that last name. (She’s Chinese, not From Viet Ban) and she told me that the name is not pronounced “Eng,” but a subdued “Ning,” but the g is barely audible.
I very clearly remember seeing this. At the time, I thought the one in glasses (didn't know their names then) who didn't say anything, here or in the video, was the introvert.
