Spot on with the label analysis. Every CBCS book I've purchased I've had crossover regraded by CGC, however I will say that the QR Code on the back of CBCS books that allow you to quickly see their FREE grading notes on the book is something that CGC needs to seriously think about bringing over to their labels. CBCS needs a stronger design on their overall label, and they need to secure a deal with DC/Image/IDW for custom labels on their line. They need something that not only makes them standout, but gives the consumer a legit reason to choose their product over CGC.
I really hope this is a step for CBCS to get their footing to compete with CGC. CGC is very sketchy at this point - questionable grading, ridiculously slow turnaround times, and their self-interest in doing pre-screen grading is a hustle. I've had grades that were too high and too low, clearly mixed up grades and graders notes. They're not far from a major lawsuit imo, plus having only one grading company is a dangerous precedent - monopolies are never a good thing.
They should put their logo shield in white behind the grade number, will look way better and also not completely copying cgs white square..just my 2 cents.
Great video, Gem Mint! I appreciate the way you broke down the new case. I also like the improvements CBCS made, and it's a step in the right direction.
By the way, since a company like CBCS is reaching out to you, that says a lot regarding how you are respected in the comic community, your word is gold. You said on one of your previous episodes that CBCS is a reliable company, that carries a lot of weight coming from you.
For sure, the CBCS label needs a refresh. The grading is washed out with that blue background. It doesn’t pop like the CGC grade on the white background.
CBCS is taking some big steps in the right direction man. If this is how they'll continue to improve, in a couple of years they might just become the #1 grading company. Also that Verified Signature Series (or whatever they call it) is a huge advantage if you have books with certificates of authenticity.
I really hate to say that I haven’t been a long subscriber for your channel, I got into your videos from a statue review and ever since then I loved your videos and watch them everyday
I like both really. But the only problem is that, sometimes you will get newton rings or you will see certain flaws that gets passed by. Especially when you know that it wasn't there. Sometimes you can hear your book move inside the case. As a collector, it all comes to you of what you prefer. In my opinion, cgc has a high following & resells better. Cbcs not so much. But still, I like both. The only plus side with cbcs is, they can authenticate signatures without no witnessing and free graders notes when you scan the back of the label. With cgc you will pay a fee.
I like the new CBCS case with the all blue label without the white box with the grade on them on the right of it just gives the all blue label a cleaner look to it with a nice smooth curve rounded touches on all four corners of the case as well and sturdy. Nice review.
Great video. Longtime collector but totally new to slabbed comics. I just bought my first off eBay and it is CBCS. It seems like there's a lot of hate for their labels and I wonder (since you mention they've made changes) why haven't they been able to come up with something people like? It sounds like they're losing business over something that shouldn't be that hard to correct.
That new case is superior to cgc because it has outgasing vents. And the book will never need to be reholdered (unless someone breaks it) the top label also looks better than cgc now. Their grading is better and more consistent. If they master their front label they would be #1 also no Newton rings (with all previous cases)
I honestly believe that cbcs and cgc cases are the same with minor changes. That could be due to them using the same manufacturer but with customer specifications. And in my opinion cbcs is a better company because of their harder grading, signature verification, and the raw grading. Only down side is the label
Its good to see CBCS come out with new cases, one thing that I do like that CBCS does over CGC is their signature series!! Being able to slab your comic and send in a COA with it as authentication is really cool, I'll definitely be using their services in that aspect!!🤙🏼🐼🤙🏼
Sent in about 9 books to cbcs recently. Used them over cgc because 2 of the books need signature verification. Found out about new cases and called people and my order will be put on hold and I’ll receive them 2 weeks later. New cases are fantastic and I’ve heard verified sigs will have a yellow label now.
honestly CBCS label is starting to grow on me. I'm more of a raw book type.. but I have both CGC and old CBCS cases.. but CBCS' motto (Steve Borock dude) is that the book is what's important, not the label... and I think this latest sealed case shows it. They coulda made the label with stickers and eye candy for sure.. when you look at these side by side for awhile. the CGC label does pop.. but it's also much more Garish for sure. stare at both side by side. and let me know which one presents the actual book better..... just saying.
Looks much better, and one thing I noticed in comparing the new one to the old one is that it looks like the spacing around the comic is even on all 4 sides now. On the old one it looked like there was less space vertically than there was horizontally. So that definitely makes it more appealing to the OCD crowd. Lol. Great video, keep it up man!
CBCS has significantly stepped up their game recently. I love their new census. Its much easier to navigate and more informative overall than CGC's census. Plus, having the free grader's notes available publicly for all graded books is a very nice touch
Iv learned a lot about CBCS from watching the video and reading the comments. I hope CBCS listens to Gem and the people in the comments about the labels.
Thanks dude this video is very helpful I feel like they are really similar in everything the only thing I would suggest is changing the color on the back round an the number
I think CBCS took a big step in the right direction with this new case and updated label. I think the QR Code on the back is a great idea. I also feel like CBCS sometimes includes more notes about the book, which is very helpful!
Dope video as usual my dude. All I own are CGC but the new CBCS cases are looking better nowadays, but CGC and them character labels still a step ahead
Awesome comparison. I think CBCS should use a white circle around the rating number. Maybe the circle outline could match the CBCS shiny logo on the right. This way they could manufacture the same labels identical, and they could print the other info and rating as before. It would be an awesome display, if they maybe use a holographic numbering for the big rating number on the left like for the logo on the right. For example, they could use different color of holographic numbering for the different eras, or they should use different for different quality, like bronze color holo for 6.0-7.9 silver fol 8.0-9.5, golden for 9.6-9.8, and something very shiny diamond like for 9.9 and 10. I think I like the hologram logo of CBCS better than the CGC square holo "sticker" on the up right corner. The fact that they sent you stuff proves that they are want to be better, and they want your and our opinion on the improvements. It's an awesome thing to do. Although I did't collect these stuff because it's expensive and hard to get these in Europe, I own one CGC slab, which was from you by winning a gemcreate. Maybe one day I jump into these slabs, but right now I focus on getting more and more reading material in omni, and other hc collected format.
I like the new CBCS case ! I wish they would take CGC's idea of character labels and expand upon it. I really like the CGC character labels but they are very limited. CBCS should jump on that idea and expand upon it. Another thing I wish CBCS would do is create larger size cases for different collectables. CBCS has grabbed a large portion of the signature market, maybe they could up their game with multiple sized cases.
While I love CGC and how they’ve impacted the comic market, I’m old enough to know that it is never wise to rely on one company and ONLY one company to supply your products or services. CBCS is indeed a reliable company and I’m giving them more than just a second look. While CGC is still my mainstay I’m also going to support CBCS. Biggest reason is I have signed copies that were inked long before CGC opened its doors.
Not a slab collector but I think what it will take for CBCS to get to the "CGC level" is local stores offering to send books to both locations. Maybe it's because I'm in FL but CGC is the only company my area stores particularly deal with or recognize as legit
I have got to say that your review is on spot brother. CBCS label is where they need to do some major rework in comparison to CGC. It is great that the new CBCS case is so much stronger because in the end it is all about protecting your comic book investments.

Good reviews. I submitted 10 books to CBCS. Hopefully in the next few weeks they shall be back. I'll give a report then. See how other books not facsimiles look. Lol😆😉
The video mostly focused on the cases but some of the other features they offer seem to be where the difference/advantage is with cbcs. At the end of the day I would buy them if the market valued them as an equal to CGC
Man i live in Dallas, TX and i know exactly where the CBCS office is, but i really can't bring myself to drop books off there. I very much prefer the aesthetically pleasing look too the CGC slabs and the census that they have had for book rarity. The one thing i will say that would be nice is that the CGC company would be able to make changes to the signature verification. CBCS definitely has not an upper hand but allows signatures to be reported without a rep witnessing. Not sure how that affects the rate of forgery for the creator signatures, but it should be something to look at.
Cbcs has a census now. You can go online and check out their stats. Personally i havent checked myself because i dont care but i watched a video on RUclips of someone checking out their site. I agree the labels suck. I live in Dallas too but ive never gotten any of my issues graded.
I'm not sure I agree on the white box being better.. it puts more focus on collecting a number rather than the book which should be the main focus. I do think one way to improve the label would be to make it more square looking.. the edges look rounded because of the way it sits inside the case. The older CBCS label looks a bit more square in your comparison 3:39 Even in the beckett BGS graded cards having a sharp square label up top always stood out as recognizable.
Honestly I prefer CBCS as a collector. I’m excited for the new slabs. Now if I needed to sell a book of course I’d go with CGC. But CBCS has been stepping it up. But most of my slabs as for my PC anyway which is why I use CBCS over CGC.
I like that CBCS is upgrading their service and product, but I still prefer CGC all around (including resale). I completely agree with you on the labels. They just don't have that same pop as CGC. I like that I can see the CGC grade clear-as-day from across the room. Good review. 💎👍🏼
I pass on cgc cases they don’t accept paypal for anything paypal is safe secure way to pay what company doesn’t have paypal bbts always had paypal same with tfsource
I prefer CGC on my higher tier books, but that said CBCS is definitely a lot cheaper. I've used them several times on signature series books to just have that authentication and get away with a littler cheaper grading fees. CBCS is also a lot faster to get your books back to you. I just received my C2E2 books back last week from CGC. All that said when you go to sell a book and its the same grade from both companies the CGC will always sell for a higher price.
I am pretty new to the game, with just a few CGC slabs, but I've been wanting to add a CBCS slab to my collection. Glad they have the clearer cases now. I've been looking at their autograph authentication service for two signed comics I got from J. Scott Campbell's site, maybe I'll pull the trigger and send them to CBCS.
New to the game as well.....but I thought CGC or CBCS would not grade a signed copy of a comic because they cannot authenticate the signature.......is that true? Help educate a newbie- Cheers!
Bruce Manley cgc won’t authenticate and give a green label. CBCS offers a signature verification where they will authenticate. It ge s a red label though.
@@GemMintCollectibles Thanks Gem. Maybe you could do a video sometime on where I see from different comic shops they have signing dates on where you can send in your comics for signature from the artist and then its officially graded. Is it worth doing it or not and your thoughts on that process. Keep up the great work Gem, much appreciated!
These look good, all they really need is a solid label redesign and they'll be good to go. Did CGC ever fix that newton ring issue? if not maybe they should be working on case redesign number 5!
I just like CGC because of how it looks there case is just more pleasing to the eye but I agree if they change the way the numbers look and the label they’ll be up there
GEM Great review but overall I still believe that CGC makes the best cases man. CGC looks better aesthetically feel better and for the purpose of collecting tracks better. You can't beat that census information. I appreciate the upgrade and the competition between the two(CGC/CBCS) will be good for us collectors.
The new CBCS case supposedly getting rid of the newton rings that still plague CGC is a pretty big deal BUT as long as CGC dominates resale then it’s a no-brainer to keep paying for CGC, otherwise you’re costing yourself even more money in the end.
At first glance it's hard to see a huge difference, but once you got into detail breakdowns it's a huge improvement. Those new cgc cases are tanks though
Not bad at all. I do still prefer the aesthetic of CGC more, not gonna lie. If they work on that aesthetic a bit more, they could definitely close that gap even further.
Gotta be honest, I’m a fan of CBCS but also a huge fan of CGC. CBCS is really starting to close the gap in my opinion!
That hologram though
Word to bigbird
The thing that bothers me... CBCS is more strict in grading in my opinion yet CGC is just a power house on reselling.
@@Jay-The-Champ Thats my opinion as well. CBCS They harsh critics !

The CGC hologram is a nice touch too.
Super sweet, new case for the win.
Cool video! Awesome they hit you up like that
Absolutely loved this. Good job man!!
I lose it, too, at the number grade. You’re 100% correct. That white box is a nice pop and more aesthetically pleasing.
Big upgrade it looks like from CBCS. Big ups to them for improving quality and not just settling for what they had.

Sweet review, I like the new cases!
I just want empty ones without grading, like snap cases that you can open and reuse. They make the comic look so fresh but I don’t want them slabbed.
have you looked into BCW comic book showcases?

Awesome comparison. I think CBCS should use a white circle around the rating number. Maybe the circle outline could match the CBCS shiny logo on the right. This way they could manufacture the same labels identical, and they could print the other info and rating as before. It would be an awesome display, if they maybe use a holographic numbering for the big rating number on the left like for the logo on the right. Learned a lot. Not a slab guy, looking to pick up my first one for a display.
Nice comparison video. And great video end credits
I like the new CBCS case ! I wish they would take CGC's idea of character labels and expand upon it. I really like the CGC character labels but they are very limited. CBCS should jump on that idea and expand upon it. Another thing I wish CBCS would do is create larger size cases for different collectables. I have a beautiful Avengers 1 print with a Jack Kirby signature. CGC has a poster sized case that's way to big. CBCS should try and diversify by going after this market. CBCS has grabbed a large portion of the signature market, maybe they could up their game with multiple sized cases.
Definitely a step in the right direction
both look so clean. Makes me wanna get a graded book soon just because of a display. TWU!

The CBCS label is trash. The font is plain and the fact that it is not centered makes it not ascetically pleasing and hard to read.

I just like CGC because of how it looks there case is just more pleasing to the eye but I agree if they change the way the numbers look and the label they’ll be up there
that new outro hard
Good to see CBCS getting their act together and addressing that crappy holder. CGC is still way ahead.
The new case does give the effect of a floating comic book and it should be about the book everytime
Thinking about sending in a bunch of books in trying to figure out where to go with autos and what not
The grade on the CBCS Needs to be spaced out more and larger. It’s like they were worried and crammed it in the corner.
Nice vid.I really like cgc but cbcs is good as well.Sadly I will never have a marvel comic...
I agree that the CBCS label is lacking aesthetically. It's actually the only reason I've been holding off on sending in signed books to be verified.
i had to look up that Wallace brown ad from the back cover. Im trying to make $50, 100, even 200 dollars fast and easy!!
Not bad at all. I do still prefer the aesthetic of CGC more, not gonna lie. If they work on that aesthetic a bit more, they could definitely close that gap even further.
