I had Stan Lee sign my copy of "The Origins of Marvel Comics" that was very well read. He was so excited to see the book was not in mint condition, that is was read and loved.
Like to know how get proof that he signed it did cgc be there in person see it signed give you certificate did you find another source get autograph authenticated
Hey Gem, an easy fix for the dustjacket damage is applying a Brodart cover. I love those covers, they do cost a bit and when you have as many books as you then it will be a big project updating all your dutjackets with the awesome Brodart covers, but they look dope imo.
Idk how many videos I've been watching today alone, but I just wanted to say that rediscovering this channel feels great. I remember watching some of your first videos on here and just astonished with the comics and statue collection you've made over the time, coming back to this channel is amazing. I've been going on a whole binge of every video and it's awesome, your channel is awesome!!
Hey bro! Because if you, I’ve gotten back into comic books! I’ve checked out all other comic book channels, and yours is the best! Thank you for bringing me back into the game!
Haven’t had any bad spines yet, but I do have one that the dust jacket is kinda crinkled on the top and one that has a small tear in it bought them second hand so can’t really complain got a good deal haha 😂
Hey GenMint! Big fan, love that you’re growing. You said “someone didn’t stretch their spine.” Well I just got my first Omnibus (House/Power of X!). You got a link to proper Omnibus care? From this video you also taught me to not read with the jacket on so there’s a lot I don’t know!!
Man, I was especially wincing SO hard when you revealed those cracked spine-sections in the glorious Jim Lee _X-Men_ Vol. 2. Omni -- I was basically going "Ow.....OW-OW-OW-OW-OWWWWWWWW" each time you flipped over to a new damaged section. I felt that damage deep in my soul, LOL. (Of all the books for this to happen to, right?)
That’s a reason I’ve never thought about the omnibus before I found your channel. Just the size of them can be hard to handle properly and some damage can occur. I like the way they all look in your room though, so I’m starting to rethink my position.
Oh boy! Half my collection is made of damaged Omnis 😂 I don’t mind it though I’m just glad I have them in my collection and they’re still readable so... 🤷♂️
Gem, I cover all my Omnis in Brodart Library covers. I had brought my Infinity Gauntlet to get signed by Starlin and Lim to a Con. Somehow it got a gouge in it during the Con, and I was so bummed. Got home and pulled the dust jacket off, and found the damage had only gotten through the Brodart cover. Not even through the dust jacket. Everything was perfectly fine. So I put them on all my books now.
It's funny, the second you posted that this video was coming, I instantly knew that DD book would be in there, if not #1. You've commented on it a few times.
My first copy of Age of Apocalypse, I didn't stretch the spine, so the spine was all messed up, but not as bad as that copy of Daredevil that you have. I sold it and bought the 2nd edition of Age of Apocalypse so it's in better condition now. I do actually own the 2nd edition of Daredevil by Frank Miller and the dust jacket looks way different from other Marvel omnibuses, but what can you do? That's what they had. I do read omnibuses with the dust jacket on, or at least I have, so I'm sure the dust jackets aren't in great shape. My Uncanny X-Men by Claremont volume 2 has the upper ribbon thing ripped off, but I guess that's just a cosmetic thing and not a huge deal. It's starting to come off in my volume 3, too. Probably most concerning is my Punisher Max volume 2 where some of the pages were crackling and peeling off the binding, but nowhere near as bad as that Spiderman or Zombies omnibus. I did fix it with binding glue and I THINK I got it, though the spine still crackles a lot, so I don't know. How likely is it for an omnibus to just fall apart due to a certain amount of damage, such as with the books displayed in this video?
You definitely got me buying omnis of things I missed like early John Byrne. I recently pulled 7000 comics out of 25 years of storage and my new hobby is rebagging and boarding them. I need the serenity prayer as you can imagine 25 and younger me was not an expert at storage nor did I have the means but despite that, it's nice to see they made it mostly intact. What more can you ask. Oh and now I have 3 1/4 scale statues. I kept talking about them and my friend got me Iron Studios Silver Samurai for xmas so that opened the flood gate.
I bought Brubaker's Kill Or Be Killed a couple months ago, the binding is completely like it's from the 70's bent up so it was half price. It's aces besides the binding, don't know how that happened lol. Great video Gem, take them dust jackets off!
Now that you mention this, it would be good to explain how to read an omnibus. I normally don't purchase an omnibus because I find it heavy when reading them lying back on my sofa, probably I should put them on the desk, open them 180°, and go from there. The issue is that the first pages try to go back as if they are closing the book, and also the front and back of the covers have continuos friction against the table/desk, so is quite discomforting. I've tried puting a towel on the table to protect the book, and putting a second book on one side to "support" the pages I am turning, for not to bend the spine of the book, but maybe is too much. I am pretty jealous with my comics, and the last thing I would like to happen is to damage them. Thanks
Thankfully I don't have any damaged books yet. My GOTG SC omni's dust jacket is a little beat up because I didn't know I should read it without the dust jacket on.
My oldest son gave me the Classic X-Men omni for Christmas in 2017. He got it from IST and it was in minty-mint condition. Fast forward to 2018 and Chris Claremont, Bob McLeod, and Jae Lee were in Memphis for the Comic Expo. I took it and Uncanny X-Men vol 2, and a couple of other collected books to get them signed. I stacked them in a pull behind suitcase with the Uncanny omni on top of the Classic X-Men omni. The weight of the Uncanny omni and other books caused them to slide between the cover of the Classic X-Men folding many of the pages and causing a huge stress mark on the spine. DOH!
I don't even collect comic's or watch DC or Marvel much, but this is so satisfying to watch. I collect HipHop Memorabilia, but I guess the passion is the same. I love it 🤙
Dang! That hurts! Something else grabbed my attention. Can you let me know the name of the comic with the woman’s face on the spine next to your Preacher Absolutes. Thanks!
I had some similar binding damages, got to repair them following youtube vids! The bending though is almost impossible to fix, gotta use a mechanical press and forget it for a long time
I’ve had a graphic novel show up with the cover half bent, it was a real let down, luckily I was able to replace it. Luckily these issues don’t seem to happen too often.
Love these types of videos! I gave loads of omnibi now And so naturally I have a couple that suck The thing that makes me most annoyed is when there are mass production issues And when they get shipped to you in a state! As in dented and crinkled, even if their brand new still in the cellophane. Their not cheap, especially since post covid. Used to be able to get em for £40 to £50 before the mcu really took off post age of ultron Now their normaly £70 at best So I expect a decent product that is treated with care and respect. There's a cable and deadpool re release but I hate the covers they have chosen They haven't even included the first print as an alt option So thanks to this vid, if your happy to keep books in your collection that are a bit off. Then I definitely don't feel the need to replace my deadpool and cable one. Love that omni, has the same issue as the Miles omni. But I may try the book binding thing
Man this is the first thing I think of when a book is coming. We're pretty lucky here in France cause Amazon France takes good care of parcells when you order one book at a time. But hey to all my Euroean friends -> Archonia is your friend !
Is that the Stan The man comic??
@@dragonball3166 because he was there watching him sign it?
😅
I believe it Stan Lee signed stuff isnt hard to find he signed alot of stuff.
05:25 "DEFINITELY right here."
Such a coincidence. Broke the spine exactly at that Polaris page.
You should do a blacklight test on that omnibus.
I’m alright with some damage if it’s cheaper. It’s all about the read for me anyway
Love that mindset
"Stretch that spine y'all" is the best policy after all
I have bought a few "damaged" books from IST - much cheaper and none of them had any real issues. ☮
Its hard when things in collections get damaged but they still give a good feeling knowing theyre in one’s possession. :)
They're not damaged, they're "well read"!
100% agree with you. Books needs to be read and not hidden away in a glass container. However, it's still sad to see a damaged book
Nah, if you have a book show up in the correct condition & treat it with respect while reading....it should always look damn near perfect.
Lol I agree Austin
I've read some of my books 5 or 6 times and they aren't damaged.
Totally like I hate it for books to be there spotless and unread
Hey Gem, an easy fix for the dustjacket damage is applying a Brodart cover. I love those covers, they do cost a bit and when you have as many books as you then it will be a big project updating all your dutjackets with the awesome Brodart covers, but they look dope imo.
This Daredevil omnibus was in comic hell
Gem, thanks for all the boss reviews.. you got me into comics again after a 25 year dry spell
welcome back brother
Man, it's so sad to see that daredevil omnibus, i can almost feel it.
It looks like a heavily used college text book.
That dust jacket made my heart break, I get very stingy about stuff like that lol
If those are your "most damaged" then you are doing well, my man!
Glad to see you are not ill!
Throw me in the running for that thanos!
So far I’ve been lucky and haven’t got one that’s damaged . I hope I didn’t jinx myself 😂
Idk how many videos I've been watching today alone, but I just wanted to say that rediscovering this channel feels great. I've seen your DD book so many times I knew it would be number one.
Hey bro! Because if you, I’ve gotten back into comic books! I’ve checked out all other comic book channels, and yours is the best! Thank you for bringing me back into the game!
Thank you. I appreciate that
I was actually thinking of getting that daredevil ommibus since you recommended it in another video. I really hope it's not a common problem.
"Not be a Savage" that killed me lol
Love your videos. Have been getting into comics during this quarantine
I’m so glad I watched your videos on how to handle them correctly before I increase my tiny collection.
Haven’t had any bad spines yet, but I do have one that the dust jacket is kinda crinkled on the top and one that has a small tear in it bought them second hand so can’t really complain got a good deal haha 😂
Just getting into collecting comics. Your channel is a great help
The content is far important than the book condition :)
Great video as always! Nice to see these types of videos!
“Not be a savage” lmaoo keep it up i love the vids
R.I.P. to that daredevil Omni 😂 also the bloopers at the ending was hilarious, nice vid Gem!
Thxs for share ya that list. and that's why the videos you do on what to do when buying a omnibus are so important
Loving all these videos. Keep them coming 👌
Hey GenMint! Big fan, love that you’re growing. You said “someone didn’t stretch their spine.” Well I just got my first Omnibus (House/Power of X!). You got a link to proper Omnibus care? From this video you also taught me to not read with the jacket on so there’s a lot I don’t know!!
yea search gem mint how to open an omnibus
Always great topics and editing . Thanks for the video!
“Group of pages” is a signature. Really enjoy your knowledge and enthusiasm for all things comics 😁
Man, I was especially wincing SO hard when you revealed those cracked spine-sections in the glorious Jim Lee _X-Men_ Vol. 2. Great video 💎!! Keep the great videos coming bud ! Thanoooossss!!!!
Man, that damaged dustjacket brings tears to my eyes.
Oh man... that square eye is even worse!
Love the content (per usual), keep up the good work!
great video! loving the bloopers at the end, lol
The elbow to the Daredevil omni was hilarious 😂
I have a few bad dust covers too, never really paid attention to the spins of the book, but will start paying attention to them now.
That Daredevil books is crazy. Blows my mind every time.
My most damaged is Justice League International Omnibus Vol. 1. God, I love that run.
Always fun yo watch your videos Gem. Stay safe and comic on my fiends
Your background collection is SICK!!!
Oh boy! Half my collection is made of damaged Omnis 😂 I don’t mind it though I’m just glad I have them in my collection and they’re still readable so... 🤷♂️
Damn Ive seen that Daredevil a few times and Im always surprised.
Quarantine makes you more productive. I like those kinds of videos. Great work mate
Gem, I cover all my Omnis in Brodart Library covers. I had brought my Infinity Gauntlet to get signed by Starlin and Lim to a Con. Somehow it got a gouge in it during the Con, and I was so bummed. That would drive me crazy on the xmen and daredevil with that spine.
It's funny, the second you posted that this video was coming, I instantly knew that DD book would be in there, if not #1. You've commented on it a few times.
No doubt they are damaged, but still, they are awesome.
I was waiting for that Daredevil Omni to be on the list 😂
Hey gem! I love your videos keep them coming
Your omnibus collection is amazing
I had 5-10 stuck together pages on the latest Blackest Night omnibus. Broke my heart.
Great content Gem! lLove it as always!
That elbow drop tho 😂
Should've been wearing your "gotta stretch that spine y'all" merch during this video lol
I liked the idea for this epsode !! I'm super picky with my books and what i consider to be damaged . good to see another perspective
I also think 95% of these binding issues could be prevented if Marvel and DC would cap the page count at about 850. Would really help
Man I need to get some books like those, thanks for the info about the books
Just started to collect, keep up the good work 👊
That daredevil is crazy warped lol but great video, thanks Gem!
The Joker sitting there was a nice touch. Whoever cropped and pasted that has got skills.
My first copy of Age of Apocalypse, I didn't stretch the spine, so the spine was all messed up, but not as bad as that copy of Daredevil that you have. What's good Gem and Phie let's see the chaos and destruction
Pages sticking together... what is that an old playboy :O
Thanks to your videos I learned to always strech the spine
I bought Brubaker's Kill Or Be Killed a couple months ago, the binding is completely like it's from the 70's bent up so it was half price. It's aces besides the binding, don't know how that happened lol. Great video Gem, take them dust jackets off!

Fun idea for a video. Thankfully I haven't had too many damaged books, you never know what it's gonna look like when it finally gets delivered to you.
Makes me feel better about some of my damaged Omnis I’ve gotten off eBay
Hahahaha
Had no idea you live in El Paso.... I live in Hobbs, NM!! Pretty close man! Love the videos
Thankfully I don't have any damaged books yet. My GOTG SC omni's dust jacket is a little beat up because I didn't know I should read it without the dust jacket on.
Thanks for the video!
Thanks for this. I discovered a bent page corner in my first edition of Death of Captain America omnibus. This helped me cope.
Really not that bad. That Thanos is an awesome prize!
For how expensive these books are, you would think they would put more r&d into perfecting the spine, to minimize some of these problems.
My oldest son gave me the Classic X-Men omni for Christmas in 2017. He got it from IST and it was in minty-mint condition.

DOH!
My Absolute Swamp Thing has a busted up spine...what a bummer...gonna try to give it a glue...Love the channel Gem
Have you ever thought about repairing or doing a custom binding for that Daredevil book? It looks like it's going to fall apart any minute
I have a Daredevil that is in the same condition because I've read it so many times. THANKS for sharing.
I don't even collect comic's or watch DC or Marvel much, but this is so satisfying to watch.
I collect HipHop Memorabilia, but I guess the passion is the same. I love it 🤙
It fits the zombie theme for the zomnibus to be ripped up
Still in pretty good shape man, super annoying when the spine doesn’t shape properly though!
Dang!
But gem... I ONLY read with the dust jackets on. I've never damaged one.
That daredevil is really banged up. Bute especially the first ones ain't that bad
I’d love that many Omnibus copies right now. Actually have the time to read them
Those are some big books. I hope to win the Thanos statue it looks awesome. I really enjoy watching your videos. Great content
Love these types of videos!
I gave loads of omnibi now

Love that omni, has the same issue as the Miles omni.
But I may try the book binding thing
Thanks GemMint for sharing these monstrosities! Fresh & unique look for a video! Stay minty fresh! 💎
Frank Miller's Daredevil is a fantastic run too, I knew it was coming, but it's still sad to see your copy
Man this is the first thing I think of when a book is coming. We're pretty lucky here in France cause Amazon France takes good care of parcells when you order one book at a time. But hey to all my Euroean friends -> Archonia is your friend !
Damn I didn’t even think about spine issues. Great video
If its cheaper then it wouldent bouther me at all. Nice vid
That Thanos statue is beautiful!
